  • I am both gf and df, before this drastic lifestyle change I would have struggled to go camping / hiking etc due to frequent toilet trips and arthritis flareups. In the long term you have to remember that feeling good tastes much better than bread!!! It is all about forward planning - if you go to a bbq, take your own…
  • I usually find tummy issues take around 3 days to go away but joint aches, fuzzy head, bad eye sight etc hangs around for about a week after a mistake!.
  • I have a nutribullet and put half the canister filled with green leaves such as spinach, kale, spring greens etc, a handful of something sweet such as berries, apples or tinned pineapple, a spoonful of linseed and a few nuts (cashews, almonds, walnuts) plus water up to the max line. The nuts puree down to create a creamy…
  • I haven't managed to get a positive diagnosis for coeliac as I can't imagine how to survive the 6 week challenge. I gave up gluten around 4 years ago after many years of IBS symtoms. I also have thyroid issues, I have non cancerous lumps growing in my thyroid and the usual things such as stupid tiredness and difficulty to…
  • I agree - change your gp. if you were following a gf diet when the doctor took blood then the results won't be accurate. You may have to do a gluten challenge in order to get a positive diagnosis of cd :( , you could do yourself long term harm by assuming it is an intolerance and not being strict with gf. Good luck.
  • Pop along to the doctors and talk to him about the possibilty of coeliac disease, assuming it is an intolerance is not a great idea, cd can be triggered at any time during your life - there is a gf group on here to give lots of advice and support. Eating healthy doesn't cause intolerance - think of it like a smoker, their…
  • One of my favourite gf ingredients is chick pea flour, also called Besan flour, garbanzo bean flour or gram flour. You can buy it really cheaply in the foreign food section of most supermarkets. It is used to make bhajis/pakoras, flatbreads and fritters in asian cooking.
  • The British heart foundation state that a womans health is at risk if her waist is bigger than 31.5 inches but I seriously can't imagine how they come up with such an arbitrary number for all sizes of woman. I have tiny friends who don't even reach 5 ft tall and a couple of almost 6 ft tall friends - a 31 inch waist on my…
  • Hello :) Sticking with whole foods instead of gf substitutes is a great way to start, I find Pinterest very handy for coming up with new recipes that are gluten free. Good luck.
  • If you are used to cooking from scratch you won't find this too tricky once you get the hang of it. Try using pinterest to search for gluten free/dairy free recipes. There are loads!!! This week I actually made hoisin sauce from scratch - I had been missing it like crazy lol and found it on pinterest. I find when baking…
  • I had the same problems, I started gluten free 3 years ago but was unsure why I was still getting poorly so in January I also gave up dairy. The difference in my general health has been phenomenal :) Dairy upsets my tummy and also my skin, I get hidradenitis suppurativa (nasty cyst like boils in armpits, groin and scalp)…
  • I agree with Liana, I cut gluten out of my diet about 3 years ago but still had some symptoms (greatly reduced though), I cut out dairy last year and the difference is fabulous - I still think there may be an issue with eggs but they are such an important part of my life I can't consider that at the mo lol. Certain veggies…
  • I love making banana pancakes - mash 1 banana with 1 egg and a tsp of cinnamon, fry in coconut oil or bake in a bun tray in the oven. Optional extras....add 1 tbsp of ground flax seed, handful of blueberries, dark chocolate chips. They are yum and actually, honest to goodness healthy lol.
  • Me too - tummy pain/diarrhoea for the first 48 hours plus brain fog, tiredness, low moods, joint pains and eyesight problems for a least a week afterwards. There are lots of self help remedies out there to help the tummy issues such as mint tea, charcoal etc but I haven't come across anything for the other side effectes…
  • ooops, sorry lovely. Yes there are 4 eggs in that recipe.....trying to read my own handwriting is always problematic lol. xx
  • Quote from About.com Question: Why do I need to be eating gluten for celiac disease testing to be accurate? Answer: If you're being tested for celiac disease, you've probably seen warnings to keep eating a "normal," gluten-containing diet until all of your testing is complete. But why is this necessary? The reason is…
  • I currently use the top of my healthy weight range as my goal but once I reach it I will change it to the 'ideal' weight for my height. It was too scary to go straight in at the lower goal lol.
  • Hello, I am quite surprised that your doc has suggested removing gluten prior to you getting tested. The usual format is to have blood take whilst still eating gluten otherwise you could get a false negative. If you cut out gluten now, your symptoms should vastly improve and you will be reticent to do the 6 week gluten…

  • I have found some starter on amazon, apparently you can add a clean egg shell to your filtered water to replenish the minerals rather than having to add drops. If you get some before me let me know how yours goes - pity we don't live closer, we could share lol. I fancy adding it to coconut cream to make a thick yoghurty…
  • Hello there - good luck with the gluten free diet. I have been gf for about 3 years now and find cooking at home easy but still really struggle when eating out. To keep costs down try and avoid gf labelled food, instead of buying special (by special read flipping expensive) flours, try subbing for different ingredients. I…
  • My profile pic show my progress so far, still a way to go but feeling goooooooood! :)
  • I keep googling all of these fab ideas but it appears that I can't buy them in the UK :(
  • Definately, the more I exercise the more I want to eat. I always find that the day after I do a big run or swim I want to eat all day lol.
  • I have found another one.......papa brand instant rice noodles, clear soup flavour! Labelled as gluten free and low fat. Put in a bowl, add flavour sachet and hot water, cover with a plate and wait 3 minutes. Had some for my lunch today, quite nice ( I used the entire sachet of chilli powder, won't do that again lol).…
  • Kale chips - recipe makes 6 servings 1 bunch kale 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon seasoned salt Directions Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a non insulated cookie sheet with parchment paper. With a knife or kitchen shears carefully remove the leaves from the thick stems and tear into bite size…
  • Coeliacgirl.....when you win the lottery and open up these amazing restaurants, please remember me in Cornwall and go multi-national :) Hope you are not poorly for too long, what a shame it was somewhere that you trusted- you are always going to be uneasy eating there from now on.
  • For a bit of a 'treat' - try blending a whole banana with an egg and fry it off in coconut oil or evoo. I add cinnamon to mine but you don't have to if you are suspicious of spices. It is surprisingly yum! Are you allowed oil? Maybe make your own mayo without any nasties - literally just eggs, oil and salt n pepper. Oven…
