  • You need to learn to indulge in moderation. If you always try to avoid things you like, one day you'll come across them and eat all you can, and then feel really bad about it. If you give in to your temptations on a daily basis, but only in small amounts, you'll live happy alongside your treats! No need to eat the whole…
  • Your motivation is the half marathon. If you plan to run it, you have to build up your training. And training does not include resting days because of darkness or bad weather. The right clothes and accessories are all you need, and of course you need to really want it. If you don't, everything will be used as an excuse.
  • One more thing I'd like to add to all the good advice you got so far: Don't start too strict, take it slow. Maybe start logging what you eat for a week. Let's say you consume 3000 calories per day ( like I did at the beginning)... don't cut down to 1200 from now to then, because you won't be able to maintain this for a…
  • I supposed she's punished enough with the guilt she has to live with. Would you punish the mum of the child if it had been her to be in the situation instead of the aunt? My neighbor, as a mum, lost her child because the boy ran on the street into a car with her standing next to him. You may be as careful as you wish and…
  • Yes, I have. I started at 110 kg, wanted to lose 40 to be "under 70kg" ( 69.9 would have been ok for me). I am now around 85kg, so 25 lost. My NEW goal is to be under 80 kg. I have given up reaching that low weight because I would look too thin and skinny. I am down from XXL to M and S in shirts and from 52 to 40 in pants,…
  • Why not have both sides? I started on MFP to prepare for a vacation. I was "gifted" a personal trainer 4 months into MFP ( it was a Christmas gift including trainer sessions). After 1 year into MFP and 7 months into trainer work out I felt so great and so changed that I just continued after my vacation what I had done…
  • I've experienced this once! It had been after 4 months of intensive training with my personal trainer. I was on the elliptical and didn't have a good day. I wasn't able to get through a work out that I had managed a week before. Just before I started crying, I stepped of and went to the bike to continue with the next part…
  • Send them over to me: I'll eat them! ;-)
  • I keep the one I personally know... all the others: 1 year. I'm a nice girl :-)
  • I couldn't have said it better than Megabozz! Set 2 goals for your first race: run the whole distance, and finish! I had set another goal for my first race: not be the last one to arrive... but that was quite easy with over 2000 people participating. Your next race will have as goal to run faster than before. Be prepared…
  • My goal is 1620 calories, but on most days I consume around 2000. If I'm hungry, I eat... and if I like what I see, I eat too ;-) I could have reached my goal weight long ago if I had changed my way of eating. I prefer though to maintain on a higher weight and be happy. I'm not the great motivator, but if you need to see…
  • When I run I have at least 140 ( in the beginning) , but rather over 150 ( after some time). During my races, I usually go over 180 at some point. I'd say your HR adapts to the situation, and you'll feel good when over 150 at some point while you still may feel exhausted or out of breath right now. That HR Max can be…
  • I'm from Luxembourg, so not too far away either :-)
  • It's almost 3 years now that I was one of those January beginners too. Not because I made a New Year's resolution, but because Santa Claus brought me a gym membership for 3 months :-) My gym usually has 2 peaks: one in January, and one in late September, that's when schools start again, summer vacations are over and…
  • I very seldom forget to eat...
  • Your weight loss is great, but what I immediately noticed wasn't the smaller version of you, but the more straight version. You keep your back straight, your posture is proud and high, your shoulders aren't hanging anymore. Just from these pictures I suppose your self confidence got a high boost! Well done :-)
  • I agree with most of the above: no shame in walking part or all of your 5K, no matter if it's the first or the 15th one you do. Most important part is to do it, and to have fun doing it, and to finish it! "You" might not be happy if you walked part of it, "You" might feel ashamed, but that's only you! Everybody else will…
  • I cannot really help you. At my gym, they changed machines and brand a few months ago. On the new elliptical, I find that I do less kms than on the old one, when I'm on it the same length of time. I stopped wondering about distance and only consider calories burnt by checking my HRM.
  • When does exercise motivation change? At the very moment you find a workout you really love to do. If you just do it because you think you have to do it, you will stop one day and find excuses not to start anymore. If you love doing a workout, you will find reasons to do it as often as you can. As for time of workout... I…
  • First: you don't need to exercise to lose weight. You only need to keep your calorie intake below your calorie needs. Second: You haven't found the right exercise yet. If you like/love to workout, you won't hesitate to start. Third: You don't want it bad enough. If you really want to, you will do anything for it.
  • Good luck!!
  • I go to gym directly from work. I know if I go home first, I find so many excuses not to leave home anymore, that I will not get any workout done that day. I have a snack either before I leave work or when I arrive at the gym, usually a cereal bar which has not too many calories. I have dinner when I get home after gym. "…
  • Vacation is vacation for me: off time from work, from home, from MFP and from gym. It's time to relax, enjoy, free your head and come back full force afterwards. I may have some more lbs on the scale after a vacation, but they are off very fast as soon as I'm back into my routine.
  • I don't understand this: you've been working out with a trainer for 4 months, 3 times a week, and you don't notice your clothes fitting better? I wonder what kind of training that is!?! When I started working out with my trainer, I noticed changes on my body rather quickly and early. My weight loss slowed down, but my…
  • Mine does the 00 thing when it's not wet enough. I usually wet it, restart the clock and it works fine from there. I wear it right under the breasts, and am careful to tuck it under the bra to make sure it has enough contact. This should not be a battery problem, the reading will just fade away when it's empty.
  • I'm over 40 and still have some 35 lbs to lose. I'm not right on track at the moment, too many things going on in my life to find extra energy for this, but I hope that I'll have a great restart in autumn and then be able to get down to my goal weight and size :-)
  • I'm paying my personal trainer for almost 2 and a half years now, and even though it's quite a sum, it's worth every penny of it. For me it's a luxury that I am willing to spend on myself, as I have plenty of benefits out of it. I was able to lose weight on my own, without working out at all, only by reducing the calories…
  • Shame for who or what? Doing 10k is doing 10k, and is a lot more most people do at all, be it running or walking! I'd say: go for it! If you have to walk to arrive, then walk a short distance and once you feel like it, restart running. I did my first 10k in March, I had 2 goals for that day: to run the whole distance and…
  • The answer is easy: ... because you're doing EVERYTHING right! Just like me ;-) Isn't it a great feeling to not miss anything at all, and still be on the right path?? :-D
  • I stayed motivated because I did not miss anything at all! I still eat whatever I want, whenever I want, but cut down on quantities. Best example is McDonalds! I used to have a burger with fries and soda, another burger and some chicken nuggets. Now I only have 2 burgers, no fries, no soda and no nuggets. Cuts calories…
