  • I don't really care for fish either, but I do love salmon patties. I use canned salmon, but you could probably use baked salmon with similar results. 1 can salmon, half a cup bread crumbs (I use crushed up seasoned croutons), an egg, and a little salt and pepper. It makes 5-6 patties. You can bake them or I like to cook…
  • Yeah, you can go back for several months and see mostly store bought products. I think gardening is great, and know people that do successfully live off of their land, but I think it's a bit misleading to say that there is zero investment, and you can eat for free most of the year.
  • I think that the answer can vary wildly depending on where you live and size of family. I have a family of 5, live in a small Texas town, and spend about $125 a week to feed us. We eat a lot of fresh produce (thank goodness for Aldi), and use rice, pasta, and beans to bulk up our meals and make them go further. I think…
  • Love this! Also, if one happens to have an Aldi's nearby their produce is incredibly affordable. I can get enough fruits and veggies to last my family of 5 for a week for $20-$25 usually. Not to mention their dirt cheap milk and eggs. I realize prices vary by location, but for us Aldi's has been a huge factor in sticking…
  • 32 here. 30 lbs would put me really close to my goal weight. I'm aiming for about a 5 lbs loss per month so hopefully by summer I'll be where I want. Feel free to add me! I could use all the motivation I can get.
  • A world without coffee is a world I don't want to live in. What is your motivation for cutting it out of your diet completely?
  • Have you synced the two apps? That way they can exchange information and work together. I have the Jawbone UP, and have my UP app synced with MFP. If I walk more than about 6,000 steps in a day MFP automatically adds extra calories to my goal.
  • This. It was plain awful. I will never again fool with pizza. I just make a thin crust real pizza instead and fit it into my calories. Also those banana/egg "pancakes." They taste nothing like pancakes. Best would have to be oatmeal sweetened with vanilla almond milk and a tablespoon of spiced apple butter. So so good.
  • UP does estimate how many calories you burn... It says so right in the app. If you sync your UP app with your MFP app it sends that info over, and MFP adjusts your calorie goal based on that information. From the MFP app directly: "Calorie Adjustment You're using UP to measure your actual activity level throughout the day.…
  • I am the same way. I'm feeding an entire family, so I have to cook dinner, but I've found for my lunches and snacks I do much better with the preportioned options. Like if I buy a bag of almonds, I can eat them until they are gone, but if buy the 100 calorie snack bags it's not an issue. Something about getting to the…
  • I see fitbit, jawbone, and other fitness trackers being a huge trend in 2015, and everyone trying to get to that magical 10,000 step number. I recently bought a jawbone, and love that it's motivating me to move more.
  • I love your honesty! A lot of people are in complete denial of the food they put in their body, so at least you realize you aren't making the best choices and are willing to make changes. I have found that (for me at least) making too many changes at once sets me up for failure. You could try making one or two significant…
  • I think how it works is UP estimates how many calories you will burn that day depending on how active you are, and sends that info to MFP. So if you sit most of the morning, and you sync at noon, it's going to predict you will have a low burn that day since you haven't taken many steps. If you take a walk after lunch, then…
  • I just looked at my receipt and I didn't give Aldi nearly enough credit for their inexpensive produce. Here is what I got for a total of $20.65 2 cartons Blackberries 1.96 2 Pineapples 1.90 Bananas .40 4 small Honeycrisp Apples 1.99 2 lb bag of Red Grapes 1.58 2 Limes .20 2 Grapefruit .58 Cabbage .69 2 cartons Grape…
  • **Buy meats when they are on sale and freeze. I can find boneless skinless chicken breast fairly often on sale for $1.99 a pound (I live in Texas). **Buy your produce at Aldi if you have one near. I bought grape tomatoes, cucumber, broccoli, baby carrots, peppers, spinach, and romaine all for less than $10 last week. It's…
  • What about one of the activity trackers that clips on instead of a band? Jawbone has one out right now called the Jawbone Up Move. It can be worn as a clip on your clothing or placed in your pocket, it can also be inserted into a band and worn on the wrist. It's versatile depending on your needs. The price point is…
  • I'm in! I just started tracking my walks a few days ago and I'm at 7.37 for the month. Looks like I have some catching up to do if I want to hit 50!
  • Think I'll try making these for lunch tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!
  • I found a recipe recently for ranch dip that is so good. Mix 1 cup Dannon Oikos plain greek yogurt with 1 packet Hidden Valley Ranch mix. It's low calorie and yummy. Plus you get the protein from the yogurt. If you want it more the consistency of a dressing rather than a dip then just thin it out with a little skim milk.
  • Slice thin into "chips", toss in a bit of olive oil, and sprinkle with creole seasoning. Bake @ 350 for 25 minutes or until done. The sweet and spicy combination is to die for!
  • Vanilla almond milk and a spoonful of spiced apple butter stirred in at the end. By far my favorite breakfast!
  • Count me in! I'm doing 30 day shred as well.
  • Going to add this one to my meal plan next week. Thanks for the recipe!
  • Just made these, and I have to say they were just okay for me. Not bad...but not great either. However my 5 year old thought they were fantastic, and she's an extremely picky little girl. Now I can make her cookies for breakfast, and for that I thank you :flowerforyou:
  • I want to try all of them! Yummm!
  • Ooh, I like this one. So far this week I made homemade breakfast burritos, individually wrapped them, and stuck them in the freezer for an easy on the go breakfast for the kids. All I have to do is pop them in the microwave to warm and they are good to go. They only ended up costing $0.40 each. So much cheaper this way and…
  • My first time planking and I have to say that it's much harder than it looks! I only made it 30 seconds, but will try again later.
  • Wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I'm a stay at home mom of 3. We tend to eat out once or twice a week out of pure convenience. It seems like we are always busy and I'm a procrastinator by nature so horrible at meal planning, although I do try. Or sometimes I'm simply tired and tacos or burgers from a fast food place…
  • Make a pot of your favorite soup over the weekend and take a cup of it along with either a salad, or a sandwich, or even fruit each day. Soup generally keeps and reheats well, and leftovers only get more flavorful in the fridge! If you don't have a microwave available, invest in a good Thermos to keep warm.
