Sorry... didn't see someone else posted this!

I second the gin and diet tonic, with lime of course.

The Tumaro low carb wraps was a great suggestion. There are essential fatty acids that humans MUST get from the diet because the body cannot make them from other things. There are essential proteins (amino acids) that humans MUST get from the diet because the body cannot make them from other things. There are NO (NONE,…

When you start any embedded youtube video such as this, if you click on the "YouTube" icon on the bottom right, it will open it in a new window. (I did just paste the link, but MyFitnessPal automatically put the video in my post)

I'm comparing the 7 day average of my weight vs the 7 day average of my MFP prediction, to smooth out the noise.

Try to eat two meals a day, although some days I do add a breakfast (mostly weekends). Don't snack too much, but I do keep nuts at work. I am a stress eater and having a LC snack near keeps me from jumping off the wagon. I do the best when I prepare meals ahead of time.

Feel free to add me. (Anyone else too). Like munzinni, i'm moderately low carb. Beans and veggies, low carb wraps (high fiber) and carbs from sauces increase my carb count compared to others. Plus I'm thinking of starting milk kefir/fruit again.

Two common approaches are only eating during a small window during the day (maybe 12 noon - 6 pm) or 1-2 days a week skipping two meals a day (I skip breakfast and lunch one day a week)

Low carbing definitely makes IF easier. From what I know about IF, it is much (better?) (healthier?) for guys then gals. It may be worth a google search. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/women-and-intermittent-fasting/#axzz3LakH0kGZ But just like with anything, YMMV and listen to your body. It does seem to work for some…

Also, make sure you are getting enough salt/potassium.

Leonidas - have you seen Sam Feltham's three experiments. For 21 days each time, he ate basically the same thing every day. I forget if it was 5000 or 6000 calories each day. The first time, he ate low carb high fat. The second time, he ate typical Sad diet. And the third time he ate low fat vegan, iirc. Some interesting…

Be patient. Mine loss comes in spurts, which makes the plateaus difficult mentally. Your diary looked good to me. I haven't tried to cut out a food for an extended amount of time to see how it affects me. You would need to do it for weeks, and even over that short time frame, any difference might be due to normal pauses…

I encourage anyone to make beef or chicken bone broth. The internets have tons of recipes. Good minerals and other compounds and much better than the instant broths...

I would bet that many people (possibly including me) think they are doing HIIT but aren't high intensity enough. So we could still be burning some fat in addition to glycogen. Fattyman007 - you don't change your macros when you do sprints/anaerobic, yet isn't this what you suggest others not to do? Also, I haven't…

Do you want the increase in metabolism so you can eat more w/o gaining weight, so that if you eat the same you will lose weight, or a third option?
-
Nice details, thanks for sharing. Curious - why did you have the goal to increase your metabolism?
-
Perhaps I am obtuse. Maybe you (birdiecs) can simplify it for me, why is it important NOT to use glycogen or lactic acid to make ATP while doing low carb? This seems to be important, but I'd like to know why. Take it a step further, that is all I am asking. Fattyman007 - sorry if I inferred that you recommended not doing…

I think there are two questions or issues being discussed. One is when he objected to my statement "I did workout during the fast so I had to have been using some bodyfat for fuel ;) " I still stick by that statement. Clearly if I was doing aerobic type of exercises in a state of ketosis, I was using fat for fuel. I think…

Still waiting to hear why it is important.

You typed a lot but didn't answer my question. You said "Its important for any one on low carb diets to understand what happens in high intensity workouts.". I asked "Why is it important? What if I did 45 min of low intensity cardio? HIIT? Only weights? An hour of house work? If you have a general goal to lose fat (ie not…

Why is it important? What if I did 45 min of low intensity cardio? HIIT? Only weights? An hour of house work? If you have a general goal to lose fat (ie not training for a marathon), there might be a small difference in fat loss vs glycogen used, but if I continue to fast after my exercise, how different can they be? What…

Quite true fattyman007. But with my glycogen stores already low and the fact I was doing HIIT and weights, I think I'm confident I lost some adipose tissue. Do you read Peter Attia at The Eating Academy? He has some interesting writing and often talks about CO2 ratio, VOx, etc.

dhelsel1 - it looks like I lost 6 lbs total throughout the fast then gained back 3 lbs of water/glycogen/etc. I did workout during the fast so I had to have been using some bodyfat for fuel ;) But I am below my stalled range which I like and appear to be losing again, but we'll see in a week or two. I chose three days…

Are you taking insulin? I have never heard of BG going too low w/o taking insulin. I can't find the article so some of my facts might be wrong, but I remember in the 1940's under careful supervision, a doctor took two people who were already in ketosis and injected them with insulin. There BG dropped to the 20's or 30's…

Absolutely.

I don't think ALL dietary fat is turned into ketones while in ketosis. A lot yes, but some is still used as FFA --> TCA cycle w/o being turned into ketones and especially if you eat big meals, some of it will still go to your fat cells for storage (and then use between meals/at night). Show me where excess dietary fat can…
