I have the Garmin Vivofit, and it was not calculating the burn well at all. It was very low, as I do a lot of Cardio as well. It didn't take into account that 1 hour of elliptical is NOT the same as a 1 hour walk. So, I got the heart rate monitor chest strap that goes with, and now it is MUCH more accurate.

Mine didn't come with a heart rate monitor, so I had to go looking for one czmom. I think it will certainly help make sure I get a better reading though when I get it, thanks for the suggestion mamachug! Hubby gave this to me for my Birthday (he got it at Costsco), and they come with two colors of wrist bands, but no heart…

I didn't realize you could buy a separate heart rate monitor. Where would one find those? I used to use a Body Media armband, and that tagged the same amount of exercise at about 759-800 calories, so I am short about 500 per day with the Garmin. :(

You have to do some jumping jacks or walk more vigorously for a longer time.

I love mine, but as I just posted, I am finding it rather stingy about the burn calories it gives you. The red line is hard to reset by just getting up and walking around for a minute or too as well.

The Body Media armband syncs GREAT with MFP. Tracks everything from how many hours of sleep you get, to how many calories you burn via moderate/vigorous activity, and calories in from MFP to give you the deficit you are achieving every day. I have been using the Body Media Fit armband since February, and I just love it. There is an app for your phone, so you can sync everything up with MFP. It works great!

You could also try eating fruit lower on the glycemic scale. Bananas and tropical fruits are loaded in sugar, but berries and such are much better.

I have been using mine since the end of January, and have lost about 8 pounds. I have been maintaining an average of 800 - 1000 calorie deficit.

I think what this poster might have meant is that doing longer intervals of say 15 minutes EACH would be more beneficial than the 5 minute chunks, not talking about the overall time frame of the entire workout. :) And YES, I think an hour and a half is PLENTY! :)
