I feel your pain! My trainer keeps telling me it will get better and I suppose it has, a little, but this was me yesterday: The ice helped immensely and today I was back at it!

I think, like everything else, you just have to find what works best for you. I know for me personally anything less than about 64 oz just doesn't do the trick. When I'm working on the road (traveling) I only manage about 5-7 glasses a day (40-56 oz). If I'm at home and in my regular routine I drink about a gallon a day (I think that's about 128 oz?).
