Hi christina When I went to the Y today they told me that the class is free to members and they also said that there might be a little bit of an introduction at the beginning for people just starting out. I can't tell you how excited I am waiting for this tomorrow. Especially the music part. Scott

akoivisto I noticed on the schedule that there were different instructors. So that should keep the program pretty entertaining and I think they meet every other day. From the sounds of it, it must be pretty good because they've just added an evening class as well. Scott

Mhuch I usually bring a towel when I go to the wellness room to workout. Can't believe I didn't think of bringing a towel. Thanks for the advice. I was noticing that several people were not in unison to the instructor and I'll be one of those tomorrow. I'm hoping that I'll be able to finish the whole routine, but if not…

Look into buying a dance video that you enjoy or look for Zumba that you can find online which burns a lot of calories. Scott

Hi Rachlet The first thing I noticed from reading your post is that you need to get back your self-confidence and start believing in yourself. Your not alone in your feelings and you are going to find that from within this site that you are going to find a lot of people to give you the support that you are going to need.…

It's a simple as mind over matter. If you put your mind to it, you can actually help yourself refrain from eating those potato chips. Been there, done that. I still eat potato chips now and then because I like them. My advice is start slow, limit yourself to just one portion of potato chips that are on the label. For…

I went through all of the threads and didn't see the formula for BMR. Where is the BMR number that is in MFP? Is that the recommended number of calories (i.e. 1200)? Please let me know. Scott

Hi Alex Welcome to the site. I think you're going to like this program. It pays big dividends to use this program (providing that you use it). Strive to log in a daily basis and as already suggested make new friends. Scott

It's funny. Right now I'm eating more than I usually have in the past and I'm losing weight. I've tried to get rid of the junk foods from my regular routine like potato chips, nuts, and sodas. That's helped out a lot. I think that since I missed a lot of meals that wasn't good either so now I'm eating on a regular basis…

Hi Adila You've got to get started somewhere. No time like the present to start losing weight and I think that you'll find this program very motivating if you stick to using it on a regular basis and actually monitor and track what you eat (that's the hardest part). It's got a very good database. Scott

Also I happened to look and see that you only had two friends. Increase your network of friends to allow yourself an opportunity for more people to give you positive feedback and help keep you motivated. Scott

Hi Linday The thing that really helped me to start losing weight is that I read the best way to lose weight is to cut back calories and exercise at the same time. I was under the impression that I only needed 30 minutes of exercise. But then I read (for a grad class I'm taking) that for weight loss 30 minutes is not…

This forum is a great way to meet other people that can provide you with the support that your going to need. It's good because the aid of this site surrounds you with the network of people that have the same common goal as you - losing weight. Scott

Hi Nan First off, your not going to be able to do anything about where you are at right now. Accept the fact that your weight is where it's at and start taking the initiative (which you have already done by signing up for MFP) to define your weight loss goals (i.e. you want to lose 25 pounds right). So what's the…

I'm a grad student and one of the groups in a class I'm taking just did a presentation that media is at fault by saying that girls today need to be thin. In most instances they are too thin. This just proves the point that media is to blame if they say that she is fat. Scott

Hi Sarah It's tempting not to step on the scale ever again. But don't heed that advice. You should probably consider weighing yourself at least once a week. By not stepping on the scale you risk the possibility of gaining weight which is something your striving to overcome. Scott

Hi Lee Welcome to mfp. This is a great site to help lose weight. I'm shooting to lose about 150 lbs. So I'll help keep you motivated cuz it's not an easy task. Scott

Hi Pure I read about your comment with a doctor's appointment and I'm hoping to be less than 300 pounds (20 to go) before I start my last grad course especially since I'm going to San Diego to visit my nephew who's joining the Marines. I've got to look good, but I don't know if I will plan on attending in my service dress…

Hi everybody. I think that this group is exactly something I need to get to my desired BMI of less than 25% within a year period. I am working out daily for an hour and i'm going to step it up quite a notch and shoot for at least 3 - 4 grueling hard hours per day. I've been pretty good at keeping under my daily goals. I am…

Excellent challenge. I am actually shooting for getting my BMI down to less than 25% within a year. So I'm going all out by challenging myself to obtain burning 7,200 calories per week by use of the following: I'm planning 7,200 Weekly Goal:7,200 / 7 = about 1,000 calories per day Mon: calories burned (how they were…

Well I hate to admit but that just makes me realize that one of the things I need to do is get myself a before pic since I'm serious about losing weight so I can see what I'm going to look like when I finally reach my goal. I really don't like taking pictures cuz the hair on top is getting thinner and I'm getting self…

Carrie One of the best things to know is that it takes (and I might off by a little) 3,550 calories to gain or lose one pound. For every 3,550 calories that we eat we gain one pound and likewise for every 3,550 that we don't eat, we lose a pound. So the math is that we need to consume fewer calories and exercise (what…

Hi Carrie Welcome to my fitness pal. Your going to like this website. It's been a major turning point in my life. Scott

You look great. Your an awesome inspiration for the rest of us that want to lose weight too. Keep up the great work. Scott

Hi Kayla Are you inputting your information? It doesn't appear that you've entered anything. I don't know if this keeps track of weight gain because I've only been using it for myself. Drop me a line and let me know if I can help introduce how to use the program if that's the case. Scott

Jamie I would like to help you and hold you accountable. My name is Scott and I'm not a professional. I'm just someone that is trying to lose weight too (100 pounds +) so I can get down to a BMI of less than 25%. The biggest thing that has helped me is combining the combination of eating fewer calories and exercising. If…

Hi Pam I wish you luck. I'm shooting to lose a 100 pounds or more myself. Please let me know if I can help you lose weight too. Scott

Hi Eileen My name is Scott. You're going to love this web site. It's become a daily ritual for me to put stuff in here. To the best of my knowledge there aren't any recipes here that I know of. I wish you the best of luck. I'm trying to write to as many people as I can so I can build a network of friends to help me lose…
