  • Hamptons Marathon on September 28th. One day before my mom's 69th birthday. Running (and MFP and a lot of good support here and at home) has helped me lose thirty pounds. Running a marathon will honor and support her by raising money for the Lustgarten Foundation. She is fighting Stage IV pancreatic cancer and while there…
  • Great suggestion - it is my morning go-to breakfast. Latest trick is to make it on a sunday and put it in the fridge. Come the weekday mornings, a splash of skim milk, a stir and then into the microwave. Nutty, with some "tooth" to it. Have taken to stirring in some frozen blueberries to cool it off and add a bit of…
  • I chew gum. I am chewing gum, I will not grab a fistful of M&Ms or a couple of pretzel rods that we have in big jugs around the office because mixing the these with gum is gross. Eating a treat takes a conscious decision to spit out the gum. By the time, I make this decision, I usually conclude that the 120 calories for…
  • I was doing other treadmill walking when I started C25K so the start wasn't too hard. The key to getting going with the program is to walk as quickly as you can and to run as slowly as you can. I used the Podrunner podcasts to help me keep track of time - they beep "up" when I needed to go faster and "down" when it was…
  • It is as simple as one foot in front of the other. Start slow and get faster. Don't go so fast or so far that you hurt yourself. I started with the C25k program in June and had a few off weeks for business travel. 11 weeks later in 93 deg heat I ran my first 5k in 30:30. I have now done two more - the last in just over 26…
  • I bought the Nike+ sportswatch because I **THOUGH** it would link with my existing Polar HRM strap. Not so - I needed a new strap and strap thingy. If I had known this I would have just spent the money on the Garmin. The Nike is decent and it is easy to read when I run in the morning in the dark but it is pretty simple and…
  • Thank you for the helpful suggestions. To those that were not so helpful, I hope get as much as you give. Karma's a *****.
  • Sweaty shirt and healthy glow > cap and gown 29:07, 11th in 40-44yo men, 183rd among all men. I am thinking half marathon in the spring for my 45th birthday....
  • 29:07 11th in the 40-44 year old men 183rd of all men With the three best athletic supporters I know! Mrs. WFNugent and the two teenage Nugents
  • I am wearing those shorts that my wife used to say "They look a little tight." Today she asked - "are those new?"
  • When you figure it out, PLEASE tell me! I am going to the high school track today to do intervals. Maybe that will help. First 5k is on September 1 and have signed up for a second 2 weeks later.
  • DEFINITELY go to a running shop and at least let them look at your arches. I thought I had normal or flat-ish feet. Turns out I have quite high arches and what I was seeing as I walked across the sand was my arch collapsing to distribute the (now reduced!) load of my body. By going now with the correct shoe type my knees…
  • I am on my last week of C25K. I registered for my first 5k - a Labor Day Weekend run near my home. When I started I really struggled and I still struggle. Running three miles is hard if you have never done it before. Running for 90 seconds is hard if haven't done it for a while. If you look on line you will find that the…
  • I did WW twice with good results. I made progress when I truly started thinking about what was going in my mouth and how much sweat I left on the gym floor. When I stopped playing WW points games, I put the weight back on. With MFP I feel like I am control and I get immediate feedback for my efforts in measurements that I…
  • I did run while I was away but it was near the beach and it was really hot and really windy. Not inspiring at all. When I got back this week it has been OK. Monday was a cruise through the time although I needed to go at a lower speed. Ran some on Tuesday at varying speeds along with other exercise and stretching.…

  • I would keep with the program. There are good days and not so good days. Today for W7D3 I was in the zone and picking up speed as I went. On Wednesday, I was dogging it. Keep up the great work!
  • Howdy all. I found I needed to slow from 6mph (10min miles) when I was running shorter distances to 5.5 (11min miles) so I could make it all the way through 25 minutes and I am dogging it at the end. Tomorrow is W7D2 and will report back how I do. As my wife tells me with each home repair project - slow and steady wins the…

  • I did my w5d3 this morning. Felt good. Was a little disappointed that at minute 15 had to slow from 6 to 5.5 on the treadmill. Was able to finish off the last 2.5b minutes back at 6. Will try it again on Sunday as a boost. I find that the Podrunner podcasts really help me manage the time and just zone out so the time goes…
