  • No pics yet, but so far I'm down 93 lbs since May 2012.
  • My sister did the Warrior Dash last year outside of Toronto. The course that she did was very hilly, so if the course that you're doing is similar I'd definitely recommend incorporating some hill training and trail running in preparation. Some friends and I are doing Mud Hero in August http://www.mudhero.com/
  • "Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney /thread
  • My favorite Christmas song would have to be 'Fairytale of Newyork' by the Pogues. My most hated would have to be Paul McCartney's 'Wonderful Christmas Time'. You know, that song where he drones on 'Simply having a wonderful Christmas time' for like 3 minutes? I've always imagined that to be the song running through a…
  • I've never noticed a lot of hate towards Subway. As far as fast food goes, it's not that bad. I cut out wheat and gluten about 3 months ago (due to a dietary sensitivity), but prior to that I'd occasionally have a Subway sandwich if I had to eat out. My go to meal at Subway was a 6 inch turkey on whole wheat, with double…
  • Fixed...use lower case letters for "img", otherwise you got it right
  • Awesome. Keep up the great work, you can definitely see the difference in your pictures.
  • I brought these into work a few weeks ago with a fruit tray and they were a big hit: http://nomnompaleo.com/post/7486819479/prosciutto-wrapped-mini-frittata-muffins
  • "At the end of the day..." "I'm going to reach out to..." These get so overused at my work that they're like nails on a chalkboard to me. I was in a meeting the other day and the managing director used the phrase "at the end of the day" 21 times in a 45 minute meeting.
  • When I first started trying to lose weight, I found eating smaller, more frequent meals, to be a big help. It felt like I was eating constantly, but it helped a lot with resisting the temptation to snack. I found the default settings that MFP gives you for protein to be far too low for me, so you might find that upping…
  • Well, when I read articles like this I like to consider a couple of things: 1. Who is the author? I can't find anything by a 'Terry Christian' when I google the name in relation to health, diet, or fitness. 2. Where was this article published? A reputable fitness magazine or website? A medical journal? 3. Does the author…
  • Currently my macros are set at 25% carb, 45% protein, 35% fat. It's still a work in progress for me, and I'll probably tweek them again in a few weeks. Looking back at the last month, what I've been actually eating is more like 20% carb, 35% protein, 45% fat. Achieving low carbs hasn't been that hard for me because I cut…
  • ^^^This While there seems to be a lot of debate on this subject, I can say that I've personally had success by eating them back (with my activity level in my profile set as sedentary). Once caveat: I feel that MFP overestimates the number of calories burned, so I tend to only eat back 1/2 to 3/4 of the exercise calories…
  • Health issues, being unable to walk around the block without getting winded or having lower back pain, noticing that my 'fat pants' were getting tight... The final straw was going to the doctors and getting up when I was called and having the chair come with me. Granted, these were ridiculously small plastic chairs, but…
  • Someone in my office was convinced that Aerosmith's 'Dude looks like a lady' was actually 'Do the lucky lady'.
  • ^^This. That being said, I usually only log water as water. Like someone else mentioned, if it has calories I log it as food, and since I take milk in my coffee or tea I log them as food.
  • The thing with bets is that the rules are exactly what you agreed them to be, not what you 'thought' they were. If nothing was said about the use of pills, etc, then your doctor friend didn't cheat. Tell your other friend to suck it up and get out the clippers. Friends don't let friends welch on bets :smokin: …
  • Mammoth Erection - Aurora, Ontario. The company deals with scaffolding, temporary barricades/fencing for events, etc. They did some of the fencing for the G20 in Toronto. :drinker: http://www.mammotherection.com/home.htm
  • Yes. I usually have a serving of unsalted nuts with a piece of fruit, or on a salad.
  • I found the defaults settings for protein to be far too low for me. You can go into the settings and change the % Carbs/Protein/Fat to be more to your liking. I've found 30-40% protein to be optimal for me. There's plenty of info (and debate) over what to set your macros at. Read up, and find what works for you.
  • glasses.....tattoos.....librarians :flowerforyou:
  • 1. Aisha Taylor 2. Felicia Day 3. Veronica Belmont 4. Allison Haslip 5. Jessica Chobot ...if we're going with fictional characters, Howie's list is pretty good. Personally, Vampire Willow would be higher on my list, and I'd swap out Fred for Kaylee from Firefly
  • I thought that I was pretty good at eyeballing things, but I was off significantly (over and under), most notably with my protein. I weigh an measure everything now.
  • Save some calories and/or up your exercise on the day that you're going out for a beer. A moderate pace 45 minute walk in the morning or evening is enough to offset the calories in your 1 beer. The occasional beer shouldn't really impact your weight loss. Even if you end up slightly over on your calories for the day, it's…
  • No, it's not normal. It could simply be diet related, or it could be something else entirely. if you're not used to going 5-6 hrs without food, or standing for long periods of time, then that could cause your body to react that way. Make sure that you're getting enough to drink, and bring something to snack on at work. See…
  • The 8 glasses of water should be treated as a rule of thumb, not an absolute minimum. It's one of those diet 'facts' that have become common knowledge, yet most people, even nutritionists, can't tell you where it originated. I've always treated it like BMI - it's probably a good average for large populations, but doesn't…
  • Maybe it's time for a break? Take a week or two, and don't log everything. Make healthy choices, but don't obsess over logging every calorie. After 4 months of logging your calories, you should have a better handle on what a 'good' amount of food for you is. Another option is to change your settings and eat at maintenance…
  • Vega (http://myvega.com/) makes vegan friendly protein powders, smoothies, etc. I do find that MFP lowballs your protein. You can go into your settings and manually adjust your macros and up the %protein until you get it where you'd like it to be. Roughly 1g of protein/lb of lean muscle mass seems to be the most common…
