  • Actually, they do. From the Atlantic article: “Dual column” labels to indicate both “per serving” and “per package” calorie and nutrition information for certain multi-serving food products that could be consumed in one sitting or multiple sittings. Examples include a pint of ice cream and a 3-ounce bag of chips. With…
  • I like the updated serving sizes to reflect a "normal" serving and the addition of "added sugar," since that's the only type of sugar that the FDA has developed guidelines for. The larger print and bold font seems silly to me. Consumers who are interested in the nutrition information will look for it and consumers who…
  • You don't even have to lie. OP could have simply said "Thanks for letting me know!" and left it at that. If the co-worker remembers to ask again you say, "Thanks, I haven't had a chance to go get one yet." People get uppity when their gift/gesture of friendship is rejected or when others make them feel inferior (I'm so…
  • Here's an example of how I use the recipe builder for cooked wild rice. I add 142g of dry wild rice and 3/4 cup of chicken stock to a pot. The cooked rice weighed 250g so I entered this as the serving size.
  • For your current situation, I would just used a cooked quinoa entry in the database. The next time you make your multiple servings of quinoa, weigh the dry quinoa before you cook it and weigh the cooked quinoa after. @Queenmunchy explained how to use the recipe builder to help with that.
  • http://www.annies-eats.com/2010/09/02/soft-pretzels/ I've made this recipe several times and it is always great. If you add the entire 2/3 cup of baking soda (used for boiling the pretzels) to the recipe builder, it will skew the sodium of the recipe.
  • I would probably just find a Sam's Club cupcake entry and log that. Since you dissected the poor cupcake, you might want to find a generic entry for chocolate cake and log an ounce of it.
  • Don't worry about it. You're going to walk a ton at Disney and as long as you make smart food choices, you'll be fine. The portions at quick service restaurants were pretty big for me, so I ordered a kids meal or you can split an adult entree between you and a one of your kids. Feel free to have a few treats too.
  • I've used this recipe in the past and I really enjoyed it: http://www.annies-eats.com/2010/01/04/classic-lasagna/ I'm sure you could replace the italian sausage with ground beef. I actually substituted the ricotta for cottage cheese since I'm cheap and I don't mind cottage cheese in baked pasta. The recipe made 12…
  • Of course, but neither one is better on its own. It all depends on how it fits into your calorie/nutrition goals. Egg whites have 52 calories and 11g of protein per 100g with almost no fat or vitamins/minerals. Whole eggs have 143 calories, 13g of protein, and 10g of fat per 100g with a whole assortment of…

  • I haven't used it, but I know a few people who use it. They usually have soylent for two meals a day and then eat real food for the third meal. If it helps, they're workaholic programmers/engineers who would rather be working on their projects than figuring out what to eat.
  • Thanks for all of the suggestions :)
  • When I was losing weight, I ate back 50-75% of my exercise calories. I was training for a half marathon and if I didn't eat enough back, I would see a definite reduction of energy during my runs. Now that I'm in maintenance, I eat all of them back. It's fabulous.
  • I use this chili lime marinade on pork chops all the time. Either grill or pan fry and serve with rice, black beans, and sauteed vegetables with some cumin and chili powder.
  • Before you go, look up the calories for the apps you want to order so that you know about how much you can eat without having to look things up on your phone with your friends around.
  • I'm a big fan of Budget Bytes.
  • I got to my goal weight by eating whatever I wanted as long as it fit my calories for the day/week.
  • That kind of accuracy is unnecessary. At most, you would need a food scale to measure 0.5g, but mine only measure to the gram and that's worked for me. I would focus more on the weight limit of the scale than the fractional gram measurements. A higher weight limit will let you weigh food while it is still in the pot/pan…
  • I've found mine to be very accurate. I got my fitbit ChargeHR after I started maintaining and I've continued successfully maintaining by eating back the calories its given me. The adjustments are going to depend a lot on your activity setting in MFP. I've seen adjustments as high as 2000 calories (running a half marathon…
  • What if your husband didn't like care about your <whatever your favorite "healthy" food is> and threw that out to make room for his <whatever other thing he wanted to put in the fridge/pantry>? Sure there's always more <whatever your favorite "healthy" food is> at the store, but you're not at the store. You're at home and…
  • I'm really hoping that you don't actually throw away her soda. That is completely disrespectful and I would be so incredibly upset and offended if my husband was throwing out the things that I was buying for myself.
  • So she has to hide her food and eat it in secret? That doesn't sound healthy in the slightest. You can definitely support someone without having to modify your eating habits or diet. My husband supported me through my weightloss and he still enjoyed the food that he wanted to. Shockingly enough, I even bought it for him! I…
  • What if that food is what makes her happy? Why does only one person's happiness matter?
  • 5'4, 135lb, 27 with an open diary eating around 1600-1700 calories per day. I try to run 3-4 times a week. Feel free to take a look at my diary. I use the recipe builder a lot, so if you want a recipe just let me know :)
  • We're making pizza (pie) for dinner tonight. I'm a little sad about our lack of dessert pie, but I guess it'll be okay.
  • If you're adding the mayo to a sandwich, you can place the plate (with the bread on it) on the scale and zero it. Then apply the mayo to the bread. You can also put the jar of mayo (or peanut butter, yogurt, etc) on the scale, zero the scale, and spoon out the amount you want. The negative number is the amount you used and…
  • Yep, that's right. You could also just put your salad bowl on the scale and zero it before adding the salad dressing.
  • My diary is open to everyone. Feel free to go check it out
  • I don't know that mine was quite as fast as waking up one day, but one weekend I went back to my college to visit friends and watch a football game and I came home with the motivation to lose weight with MFP since it was working so well for one of my best friends. That doesn't mean there aren't ups and downs along the way.…
