  • Thanks!
  • I've always worn gloves when lifting. I wear my college ring, a ring from graduation (that matches one my mother and sister have) and my wedding rings. I don't ever take them off (that way I don't have to remember to put them back on!). If I don't wear gloves I tend to get the skin around them pinched and get bigger…
  • Sorry if my post was confusing! I Have a bar. But the space between the collars isn't wide enough to fit my NEW rack. I have weight plates that all have a smaller center hole. The Olympic bars I checked out at the sporting goods store all have a larger diameter on the ends where the weights will so my (preexisting) weights…
  • Because of our BM armbands my co-workers and I walked inside today at work to get some extra steps, (as it is miserable outside). So we beat the halls in our small community hospital. (we lapped the hospital about 7 times in 15 minutes). But we squeezed in 1500 extra steps at lunch instead of sitting after lunch!
  • Do your research. The research says (over and over) the only way to see "significant strength gains" is to overload. More specifically by lifting at 60-80% of your one-rep max. Period. So please feel free to pull up some randomized controlled trials on sweats and swimming and link them here.
  • I think that with your current edit you have your answer. You have an average measurement of your total body fat composition. But our bodies are not made up only of fat and lean muscle. I'm sure if you have been working hard for that many months you will have some strength gains. But the fat/lean mass ratio is not…
  • How are you calculating and/or measuring your body fat and lean mass ratios?
  • Agreed, good rant. and I'll add to it... Rant continued... In response to the above poster: Even in "untrained individuals", people are generally not working hard enough nor long enough to see significant strength gains. In order to see appreciable strength gains you have to be working a an intensity at 60% of your 1 rep…
  • I'm not sure what your goals are, but... My mother is a hardcore crazy runner (love her!) But she will run in a snow storm all bundled up with ski googles (I couldn't even make that up). My uncle runs outdoors as well, but my Aunt didn't want to. She started running at home inside on a small indoor trampoline. it improved…
  • Yikes! That's a tough question. I would guess that a heart rate monitor is not your best bet. As your beta blocker is meant to blunt your heart rate response. I think the "talk test" would be a better gauge of your workout. That being said I don't think that really answers your question as to calories burned. You might…
  • I'm a closed diary person. I've open and closed it again and again. Right now it's currently closed. I don't always make the best food choices and I'll admit that. When my diary is closed I tend to log EVERYTHING and plug along with my poor choices from time to time. When my diary is open I tend to omit my indiscretions.…
  • Do you have Just Dance for the Kinect?
  • Same here daily estimate. So much easier. And i'm not sure if my browser got updated or the site but now I can enter them from my phone (through the website not app). So days when I can't get at the computer I can still track and develop a report to see how I am doing on average!!
  • Thanks for the input everyone! I appreciate it. :)
  • Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for!!
  • I have a "BodyMedia" fit. Same concept, same company. The BodyMedia also monitors sleep as well. I have also heard that some people think the BodyMedia website interface is more user friendly. I've never used the BB website so I'm not sure. I love mine! Two of my co-workers and another participant in my Zumba class have…
  • It's round and big...butt (pun intended) I noticed last week it's cellulite free! And that makes Momma happy :) 37-28-41. :)
  • I hear ya! After I had my son I have this whole new layer of hair! I've found these seem to work the best, in combination with a little hair spray and a bobby pin behind my ears. this does the trick! Good Luck!! http://www.goody.com/#/grid/stayput/products/secure_fit_headbands
  • It depends on if you counted it as part of your calculation for your BMR then no. Its part of your daily routine, not extra. Sorry!
  • I'm grateful for the amount of posts regarding how exercise is so important! However, it sounds like you have already made up your mind and are defending your decision. So why ask? People put time into reading and responding to your post with intelligent and useful information (backed by research I might add), you should…
  • Just for the record this is my favorite post :)
  • Same trouble here! Keep forgetting to send in. Count me in too!!
  • MRSA is everywhere in the community these days. Students are getting it from schools, gym mats, locker rooms, and even desks. I'm not trying to scare people but it's contagious, no joke. All it would take is a slight opening in your skin
  • I find when the scale doesn't move (and I am behaving :)) then I'm usually dropping inches. It's usually best to do a combination of strength training and cardio. You can do all the strength training you want but if you don't have the cardio to go with it, then you won't "See" results (as they are hidden under a layer of…
  • I got my BodyMedia around Christmas as well. I also have a Polar HRM. I have lost 8 pounds since I started using my BM. I love the feedback it gives me. I use it with my iPod to get up to date info. I reference throughout the day to see if I need to move more! For example I have been doing more desk work lately at work so…
  • Excellent! I just posted a thread on opinions for JD2 I guess this answers my question! Headed out to Wal-Mart to pick it up shortly!!
  • I'm a ZUMBA lover too :)
  • Well I don't have "bat wings" but feel your pain with the stretchy skin. I have a few stretch marks from the babe. And my oh so observant husband remarked "the skin on your belly feels smooth but funny." I'm not really sure if he was trying to be nice or what. But I smacked him none-the-less. Like someone else said better…
  • As far as the Wii Zumba game: I have been regularly attending Zumba classes 3 x week since September. Love. Love. Love them. But again it's only three days a week. So I bit the bullet and bought the game. The graphics are horrible. Not realistic at all, unlike AE active. The "game play" is very cheesy, by doing the moves…
