I recently purchased the bodymedia system, still waiting to recieve it, and I was wondering if anyone that has it can tell me if you have to wait until you download it at the end of the day to get the information about calories burned and calories consumed?? or is there a display that gives real time info? How often do you usually download it?? Thanks!!

  • Hello! There are a couple of options...

    1) you can get the watch display that syncs with the armband and will give you "up to date" information. This costs about $75 - $100. I would recommend it, as it helps you to see where you are and how much more work you will need to do to reach your goal.

    2) if you are getting the new Bodymedia Fit with the bluetooth technology, it automatically syncs with your Smartphone to give you updated information

Otherwise, yes, you will need to plug it in to your computer every day to see your status.

First of all there customer service sucks....I ordered my bodymedia in December around christmas and received the armband pretty quick but the display device just arrived. Personally I like it BUT I don't think its worth this much money. The information you get from it is good but I think a quality heart rate monitor. I'm actually saving up for one so I can use both. I just think that you would get more use out of the heart rate monitor. Good luck!

Yep, agree....also you have to pay for the monthly subscription to access the download.

Thanks everyone. The package I have includes a year subscription to the online site, but just out of curiosity, if I have the watch that syncs real time, do I still need the monthly subscription? Thanks again!

I got my BodyMedia around Christmas as well. I also have a Polar HRM. I have lost 8 pounds since I started using my BM. I love the feedback it gives me. I use it with my iPod to get up to date info. I reference throughout the day to see if I need to move more! For example I have been doing more desk work lately at work so I make a point to hand deliver messages versus faxing and or calling if possible if my steps are down for the day. Also I reference it nightly (either via the web or my touch display) after dinner to see if I need to get in a little more activity to hit my deficit, or if maybe I can squeeze in another snack!

I still do most of my tracking of calories through this website and enter the total onto the webpage to track my over all calorie intake over a period of weeks.

I love it. I find the info much more useful than my HRM. I actually haven't really used it since I got my BM. I like that the BM gives me data about my whole day versus just a workout snapshot. Its hard to gauge activity from day to day if you don't do the exact same thing everyday. Depending on what I do form day to day at work, my steps can vary from 4000-8000. Which, for me makes a huge difference in my calorie expenditure.

As far as needing the subscription I'm not sure how that works.

Hope this helps! Also, if you are on Facebook there is a BodyMedia page that may help answer some questions that you have.
