Well, they either decrease your TDEE through metabolic pathways, make you less energetic, or they make you eat above your TDEE through increased appetite. What else is there? (excluding water weight gain) In the first case, be aware of the effects and monitor and reduce (if required) your intake. In the second case you…

Cold-pressed?

It adds a few calories so it depends how strict you are. Maybe it will satiate you more and you'll eat less. If you add calories to your diet at maintenance, you will gain weight.

As we age, it's observed that our metabolism slows somewhat in the average person. Would you say that getting older makes you gain weight, or would you say that less energy is required to maintain our weight as we age? Saying weight gain is a side effect sounds like an excuse for weight gain. What it should be is a call to…

But see, I don't think they do. It may be semantics but I think that statement causes confusion, especially on a calorie counting site. They decrease your TDEE and that's not the same thing. If you are on a medication that has a known side effect of affecting your weight, measure and reduce your intake accordingly because…

That's not what she said. She said even if the reduction is a small amount, which I agree with. This can be mitigated by decreasing intake to match.

If you're a med student, could you explain the biological mechanism for increased fat gain from these meds when in a calorie deficit please? You need to identify the processes by which this is accomplished in order to combat it. The article that you linked doesn't do that. It explains that there can be water retention,…

Firstly, treat protein and fats as minimums to reach, not maximums. Fill the rest with carbs to your liking. I don't worry about sugar. It's just a carb and I track those. You should figure out your protein and fat goals first though... Your micros like vitamin C and calcium are required daily amounts, so minimums as well.…

...and probably what got the OP into this conundrum in the first place. I think you may be a little generous with the word "fantastic", unless you are being literal. ;) There's no iron like heme-iron.

I find the parroting of the company line, and the lameness of the "coach's" sales pitches amusing :)

It's not available in Canuckville and $18 shipping for a bag of flour is probably not something I'm going to do, but thanks for the heads up about high protein flour.

Thanks. I may add a T of essential gluten then.

Light rye is my favorite but I can't seem to get it chewy enough like from the bakery down the street. Any tips?

I find the simplest lightest bread is just: 4 cups - White bread flour 1.25 cups - Water 1.5 teaspoons - Yeast 1 teaspoon - salt 1 Tablespoon - honey (sugar)

What foods "shouldn't you eat"?

Detox? If the OP has heavy metal poisoning they should be in chelation therapy at a hospital.

The literature I've read says 30 minutes per day is optimal for cardiovascular health. You don't need to exercise to lose weight. You just need to be in a calorie deficit. Deficit for weightloss, exercise for health.

So I take it carbohydrates (beyond fibre) and alcohol were considered to have a FF of zero beyond caloric value.

Your wine was only 11-12% alcohol probably and Pinots are usually fairly dry, so little residual sugar. It may have been a sweeter than I recall as 180 kcals sounds high for a dry red.

Eat an apple and a handful of salted snacks with your water.

Potassium chloride supplements are usually a very small dose (80mg), and if larger can damage your stomach, hence the small dosage. It's easy to get potassium from food. One cup of V8 has 900 mg (10 pill supplements) for only 60 kcals. V8, meat, fish, tomatoes, coconut water, mushrooms, squash, potatoes, dark chocolate,…

What he said. It's the fourth macro and I think about 7 kcals per gram. It does have energy, but your body treats it as a toxin so your liver goes to work processing it before anything else from what I've read. But, you're not taking in many micronutrients (or none for pure alcohol), nor is it very satiating, so one is apt…

Unless you take in a lot of sodium. I like salt and need to keep a high ratio of potassium to balance my sodium intake. 1.5:1 to 2:1 for blood pressure. Also, yes your kidneys regulate potassium, as in excrete excess, but they don't create it, so I'm not sure what your doctor means.

Demonstrated by whom?

Sounded like something I would try until I saw the ridiculously high price. Not a chance. It's "fad" priced. I'll stick to black beans and good old durham semolina.

Pale straw coloured is fine. Yes, you can count tea coffee, milk, soda and all fluids. If you add sugar to your tea and are actually counting water ( I don't bother, I know when I'm dehydrated), just click the water thingy and add the sugar to your diary. The whole point is hydration. You don't need to punish yourself.

Thank you for an expert opinion. Now, will anyone listen... I've always said the number one thing for health improvement is to get to a healthy weight.

Enjoy your malware installation. I wouldn't load that printer on my machine. Read this: http://www.benedelman.org/news/082807-1.html
