  • I'm sure this works for some people but it certainly doesn't for me. Generally, when I don't count for a day or two, the whole thing falls apart. I need the routine and accountability all the time. Maybe one day it'll be different but my relationship with food has not gotten to the point where I can do this.
  • The thing I thought of was maybe she doesn't want to hear about it anymore. You said she responded with "you already told me." I had a friend that was doing really well with her dietary changes and I got sick of hearing her talk about it. Maybe your aunt has reached the point that she's heard enough? Whatever the reason,…
  • Life wouldn't be worth living without Lou Malnati's, IMHO. Why not just bump up to maintenance and enjoy yourself? Have some of traditional stuff and include lots of veggies and salads with it. There really isn't much traditional Chicago foods that are super healthy but they are all fine in moderation.
  • You should be talking to your care team about appropriate diet and exercise for you right now.
  • I dunno, when I was having an unknown allergic reaction (quite a bit more serious than yours but still) I wanted to know immediately what was causing it instead of just giving up an entire type of food without a good reason. Testing for food allergies is a relatively simple process. I would think you'd want to know what…
  • I had a crazy day yesterday and didn't see this until my husband sent me the link this morning. I don't fanboy over VII the way some of my friends do (I spread the final fantasy love equally among all the games-I love them all) but this might warrant a vacation in front of my TV (which I was saving for either VX or No…
  • Don't distract him with your "facts" and your "logic." He's trying to explain why he's special!
  • Oh I'm sorry. Did you want us to tell her that everything is fine and she probably didn't do any damage and she should just keep going to the gym and work through the pain? She just had surgery. I'm sorry, but when you act in such as way as to seriously endanger your health you don't get a hug and an ice cream cone. You…
  • I weigh and track the whole thing, cob and all.
  • It isn't rude to refuse food. Just say "no, thanks" and change the subject. They are the rude ones if they continue to hound you about it.
  • Wait, what? You had surgery one week ago, you were having trouble breathing, and you thought it was the right time to go to the gym? Your thinking is all kinds of wrong. You should be asking your doctor things like this and not jeopardizing your health and recovery based on a self-imposed, imaginary set of fail/succeed…
  • Make sure you wear moisture-wicking clothes and not cotton. To beat the humidity I run in the early morning hours (though in Chicago for the last two days, I just couldn't so I ran at the gym). If you're not a morning person, go in the evening. Make sure to stay hydrated. That's really all you can do. I want to say you'll…
  • It isn't top on my list but I do prefer to buy from local farmers markets or eat what we grow in our garden during the summer. In the winter, I buy what is cheapest and that typically isn't organic.
  • I feel like I'm a pretty sweaty person. Maybe this has never happened to me because I've never had headphones last more than a month with my cat trolling for a chew toy.
  • I've never had a pair short out from sweat but my cat loves to chew on earbud cords and manages to wrestle one about once a month. I buy the Philips earbuds at Target for $15 and they suit me just fine.
  • If you're not going to stick to MFP without the accountability of weekly weight-ins, I'd say the price for WW is well worth it. But, if you can stick to this there's no reason to pay.
  • I'm so glad you don't live with her anymore. Think about how terrible it must be to be her; to so obviously and horribly belittle someone while attempting to elevate your own poor choices. I'm glad you gave her what she deserved.
  • I am a member through my insurance company; I paid $25 down and $25 a month to sign up for the program and I have the option of a number of different gyms. LA Fitness is the most full-service in my area. I called before registering through the insurance company and told the salesman if he could beat the price I'd give him…
  • I do both, strength at least 3 times a week. I don't track it, though. I'm following the 6 month plan in the new rules of lifting for women.
  • I use a pink Nike bag that I bought at the Nike outlet. It has a nice thick shoulder strap and is big enough for anything I might need in the morning, and then some. There is a mesh pocket on the side that I stick my flip flops in. I bring my makeup in with me because I bring my whole bag in with me. I workout, shower,…
  • I usually consume more calories and get less benefits from food when juicing than eating the whole food. Juicing removes some of the good stuff. But, I've never used it as meal replacement because I'm pretty sure I'd starve.
  • I have a friend like this. She's super into jumping onto whatever fad diet is front-and-center at any given time. Her new thing is her self-diagnosed "gluten-allergy" which I find super annoying as a person with an ACTUAL food allergy, but it's her choice. When I see her I usually indulge it for a bit and then change the…
  • If you're set as active but you're counting the exercise you do normally (walking the kids to school, running around with them, etc.) and on top of that you're counting walks as part of your normal routine AND eating those calories back, you're likely overestimating your burn. It's like double-dipping.
  • This is anecdotal but when I went caffeine free I had raging headaches every evening for almost a week. I was a pot-a-day or more coffee drinker and giving it up messed with me in more than one way but the headaches were the worst. I'd see a doctor if it continues but caffeine withdrawal can be a cause.
  • You should discuss the best way to handle your nutrition with your doctor. Congrats!
  • Not a huge anime/manga fan (except for Attack on Titan) but huge gamer over here!
  • I thought you signed up and if you lost weight people would give you presents! No? Too bad.
