  • 6 month update and I'm really excited. I have now lost 43 pounds and my A1C is at 5.0. The doctor just took me off ALL meds. I just now need to keep monitoring and control it through diet and exercise. Thank you all for your encouragement and advise. By the way this has been the best summer I've had in a long time. We have…
  • Not with HIIT but I was diagnosed in February with an A1C of 8.2. I went completely low-carb and started walking between 8-10 miles a day - not all at once, just throughout the day. I have now lost 35 pounds and my A1C is a 5.2. With being diabetic it's so much more important to keep a low carb lifestyle as that is what…
  • Awesome! Keep up the good work.
  • Hi Corey, I was diagnosed in February and decided to tackle it head on. I went completely low carb and started walking 8-10 miles a day (thankfully my job allows for a lot of walking during the day). When diagnosed my A1C was an 8.2. I just got my 3 months results back and I've brought it down to a 5.2 - which is…
  • So blood work is back and my A1C is a 5.2! I am thrilled. Still on meds for another 3 months and if I can keep my A1C this low he wants to start taking me off of them. I am excited about this summer. Both dh and I have lost 35 pounds each (I am now wearing a size 8!) and are so much more active and enjoying life so much…
  • Exactly, this disease does not define me. It's something I have to live with but it is not who I am.
  • Born in 1989, that's funny. I had already graduated high school by that time.
  • I wanted to give you all a 3 month update on me. I have now lost 35 pounds (yay!). I am still eating low carb and have adjusted to it pretty well. Sweets really hold very little temptation for me now. I walk on average 6-8 miles a day which has helped tremendously. I go back to the doc in 2 weeks to find out my new A1C…
  • I just wanted to give you an update since it's now been a month since I was diagnosed with T2D. I have gone completely low carb and have lost 18 pounds (a great start, but I still have a long way to go). My typical daily glucose levels are under 100, oftentimes in the 80's or low 90's so I'm very happy about that. I was in…
  • Thank you. I just sent the request to join.
  • Thanks for all the encouragement and advice. It's been a week since I got the diagnosis (my A1C is an 8.2) and since then I've been completely 100% low carb. My daily readings are around 115 in the morning, around 100-110 at 4 PM and 95-100 at bedtime. I'm thinking I'm doing okay so far and I'm making sure I get a minimum…
  • Thank you for the good advice. I was half-heartedly doing low carb for a few weeks before my diagnosis. Now I'm 100% low carb and doing pretty well with it. My husband is totally on board with the low carb lifestyle so that makes it much easier to stick to. The doc just put me on Met to start with but it does have a side…
  • How about some of you stop telling me everything I've done wrong in the past and give me the encouragement and advice I asked for. The med I was put on has a benefit of weight loss which will help jumpstart my weight loss. My Dr. also said that as a result of my high blood sugar levels it was next to impossible for me to…
  • 1200, but that is not the point. Now that I'm on meds and my blood sugar is normalizing I know the weight will start coming off. The point of my post is that I want advice and encouragement from people with T2D on how they have managed it and are dealing, as well as how they are handling their weight.
  • I don't think it matters but you have to find what works for you. When I tried the 5-6 meals a day I just couldn't keep under my calorie limit - and yes, I tried to keep it all healthy stuff. I find that in order *for me* to stay under my calorie limit I do better with three meals. Then I can space out my calories and I…
  • As for the four servings we always freeze leftovers in single serving dishes and then they are quick and easy to grab for lunches or to have on nights when I don't want to cook.
  • My favorite cookbook is The Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook. All the recipes of your favorite comfort foods redone so that they are healthy and low cal. I LOVE the lasagna in this cookbook and it's only 292 calories per serving. I'm not a fan of cooking either but these recipes are easy to follow and my family…
  • Swimming is a great idea but not feasible for me. I live pretty far out in the country with very few gyms available and none of them have a pool. I also live in the north where we have snow on the ground right now so swimming outside is not an option. I do love swimming and wish there were a way to make it work.
  • Yep, I already see this coming. My son is a cross country runner and already does a few 5K's a year. My dh said yesterday he'd like to start running them. So now we're up to 3 entry fees every 6 weeks or so. This could become an expensive endeavor for us!
  • When I'm not riding my horse I like to go backpacking.
  • "My" horse Ace. Okay, he's not really mine but he might as well be. His owner shows no interest in him and only visits him at the stables about 6 times each summer. So I take care of him and ride him 3-4 times a week. I love him so much!!!!
  • I am a serious throw away person because my dh is a hoarder. He would keep EVERYTHING if I let him. We go round and round on the issue but he's starting to come around. He even cleaned out a good portion of the basement recently and got rid of a lot. I was so proud of him because that's really hard for him.
  • Crystal Light. It's the only way that I can drink water. I really like the orange.
  • Columbus, OH
  • depends on if I know the answer or not. Most times I read at least a few other responses first.
  • I like it. I don't mind it being a separate brochure you pick up inside (instead of on the drive thru screen) but it should be available somewhere on the premises. I know a lot of the fast food chains already have this and I do use it before ordering. As far as the legwork of figuring it out beforehand I don't have a smart…
  • There have been many studies done on this and if you google it you'll find a lot of articles about it. Bottom line is for optimum weight loss you need eight hours of sleep at night.
  • I think it depends on your height and body type. I'm fairly on the short side (only 5'4") so on my a size 12 is still pretty big (I'm currently a 14). I need to get down to an 8 at least to look good. Taller people look better in a size 12. Now that being said if you're happy with where you're at then celebrate it and…
  • I just hit the 15 pound mark and it's taken me just about two months.
  • I get mine from Meijer, they have the best price on them but pretty much all the grocery stores sell them. They are shelves by the protein bars and diet drinks usually.
