  • I'm about to that point myself. I'm definitely not trying to look like a 20-something. I'd just like to lose some weight so I'm not carrying around an extra 20 lbs while I'm hiking and sight-seeing.
  • Love hiking! But the closest place to 'hike' is about 30 minutes away and will turn into a half day type thing. In which case, I won't do it because I don't have a half day to devote to a workout. This is where I'd hike. I'd roller blade if I weren't scared of falling, skinning myself up/breaking something. (age 52).
  • My sanity can only handle 3 days a week at the gym... The other days I make every effort to do something, even if it's only walking the dogs. It's about to be spring/summer and outdoor activities will increase drastically. I'll be adding gardening, yard work, lap swimming, and even a bit of hiking. Those count don't they?
  • I'll have a good streak and manage to screw up the streak on the weekend. I'm back, with renewed determination to log consistently. <pinky swear>
  • First of all, I LOVE your screen name barbecuesauce. I call it eating paleo, but in reality.... it's just cutting out processed foods. If I can't pronounce it, I 'try' not to eat it. <Cheetos... cough, cough> Or at least severely limit my intake. And it is possible to eat just one. or 4. But, I stop there, I swear! But I…
  • See, I've been wondering kind of the same thing... I've recently changed my diet to a semi-paleo diet... no processed foods (or very little processing). Nothing out of a box, good lean proteins, tons of veggies, fruits, no regular bread- only gluten free, and here's the biggie.... NO BEER! (Beer is my kryptonite)…

  • Hi All, I went to the first board and couldn't figure out why it was locked... finally found ya'll. Meredith - re: staring down 50... 30 was the hardest, 40 was "I'm 40? Wow! Here me roar!" 50 was "Screw it, it's just a number." But we're here for you. So, I'm day 10 into this new semi-Paleo eating plan. No beer or bread,…
  • Day #2 of being back on schedule! Yay me! I read everyone's posts, very interesting reading... but I hope you all aren't offended if I don't comment on each one. I can't remember that many names. Like I tell my husband, the FAT table to my mental database doesn't always match up the data fields correctly. That and you…
  • Well, seeing as how I'm 51, and trying to lose 30 lbs... this seems like the place to help me do it. Introducing myself, 51, 5'5", married, 2 teen boys, former bodybuilder (in my mid 20s of course) and have always been active but... well you probably can fill in the rest of the story. I'm kicking myself lately. This time…
  • It doesn't need to be super accurate. Short of strapping on an oxygen uptake mask while I workout nothing would be. Closies count.
  • I looked at the Basis. Pretty cool device and pretty much what I'm looking for. It doesn't look like it syncs with MFP, yet. I looked at the forums and everyone is screaming for a MFP sync. Who knew MFP was so popular?
  • Does The Basis require a monthly subscription like Bodymedia does?
  • Have you tried Colace? It's a stool softener that works by drawing water into the stool. It may take a couple of days if it's that bad, chugging water all day with it is absolutely necessary. I'm surprised the hospital didn't suggest it. I've also used an herbal tea called Smooth Move. It's put out by Traditional…
  • I would post a picture on that thread but I'm not that brave... plus, the pictures I've taken of myself ... I just look kind of stupid.
  • EXACTLY! You've been comparing yourself to a pubescent you... you weren't fully grown yet. You're just now approaching maturity, your body shape and proportions will continue to change as you mature for the rest of your life. You are a human, not a mannequin.
  • My thighs have always touched except for 1 very brief time in my life. That was when I had been training for a bodybuilding competition and had dieted down to less than 10% body fat. My periods stopped and everything. As soon as I put on a healthy amount of body fat, my thighs were back to touching. So short answer, Yes, I…
  • Good Answer! Good Answer! I like it. And that's what it felt like. I knew I was getting stronger, I can see it in the mirror and in my legs (which now have a flat side on them and starting a cut up the front, thank yew very much! ), and in my arms and chest. And I was certain I was losing fat, as I was down 2%…
  • Truth and Bacon, all in one post! Love it!
  • I recently saw on facebook that the Jawbone Up works with Android 4.0+ now. I looked at the Bodymedia but the monthly subscription price was a deal breaker.
  • "Shedding fat too fast"? Ha! 10 lbs over several months?.... Probably not all that fast.
  • Good questions. Long term goals- decrease blood pressure, improve overall health, get my metabolism back up back where it used to be or at least close, to not feel quite so middle-age, to be proud of how I look nekkid in front of my husband. Short term - get my bench press up to 125 (115 now - entirely doable) one…
  • Did it help push you over the plateau? I'd like to start the scale moving down again but that's not my reason... I just want the 'eye of the tiger' back. I want to come back ready to push myself and be enthusiastic about it... Now I'm just kind of "meh"... "I'll go ahead and lift, but I don't feel like it." It's an…
  • Me. I upped mine to 1550 and ate back exercise calories and it came off, until lately.
  • If you're too sore, as in have to hang onto something to sit or get up, take a day off. If you're able to get around with soreness that's more like "hey, new muscle here! Yes, you worked out yesterday." Go ahead and work out if you're doing higher reps to get used to the lifting thing. If you're lifting heavy, low reps…
  • Total upfront disclaimer: I only spot read some of the previous posts so I probably missed something somewhere and someone has probably brought this up but... What about different body types? Wouldn't a person's body type have a lot to do with how their body responds to different types of exercise? Example: My husband…
  • I came across a new visualization yesterday. It's a little macabre but it works on a mother's momma bear protective nature. Just imagine that you are lifting something heavy off your child, or are rescueing your child from something or fighting something off of your child. Because all mothers know that there isn't anything…
  • I think I started my menopausal issues when I was about 45. It started with panic attacks. It was bad. I went on HRT aka birth control pills and anti depressants and that helped a lot. Then the sweats started hitting around 48. I had gone off the pills and they came back worse than before. Then I started getting really…
  • bumping so I can get this on my topics for later reading.
  • So, I constructed the recipe in 'my recipes' 4- 6 oz fillets 4 tbsp butter 3 tbsp lime juice 1/4 cup heavy cream And ding ding ding, we have a winner! The swai with cajun cream sauce checked in at 259 calories per fillet compared to 310 for a battered and fried same size swai fillet. Thanks for the heads up on the…
