  • I am a thyroid cancer survivor of 22 years and it is hard to lose weight BUT I'm glad to say on 5:2 !ve managed to lose 17 kg to date and I'm pitching for 18 kg my goal in the next 6 weeks. It's taken a year but I haven't been this weight in 22 years so I,m really pleased!
  • Do you use the actual flaxseeds or flaxseed oil?
  • I'll be interested to see what a study shows, particularly about the efficacy of the 5:2 lifestyle change? Does the fact you radically change your calorie intake on 2 days compared to the other 5 stop your metabolism from slowing down?
  • I'm doing 5:2 Fast Diet and I roast pumpkin squash and carrot in the oven on bake paper for 40 minutes and turn and add a salmon fillet covered with a teaspoon of grated ginger and soy sauce and bake for 15-20 minutes more and serve with steamed broccoli . All for 150 calories. I can recommend it and the veges come out…
  • What about Tasmanian farmed salmon . We buy it fresh from Aldi?
  • Good one Debbie I took weeks to pass the 10th kilo! Then I lost a kilo in a week!!!
  • Brush each salmon fillet with 1 teas grated ginger and 1 teas of light soy sauce and bake for 15-20 minutes at 200 in oven. I bake carrots and butternut squash for 30 minutes on fast days and then add salmon for last 20 minutes and serve with broccoli for a 170 calorie meal.

  • Donna After 24 weeks on 5:2 I would encourage you not just to look at weight but how your measurements change. There is a place here when you can record your waist and hip measurements sometimes they will change and not your weight . But overall the program suggests a lb a week is a realistic measure of what you will lose.…
  • I've had 6 months of fast days now so I can look back and say I look forward to them as days I can go a little more slowly and enjoy evert mouthful of food and just live life at a slower pace on these days.
  • Skrentz These things happen let me tell you after 6 months on 5:2. You can either just do 6:1 this week or choose another fast day. I went on holidays a few weeks ago, so I fasted Tues, Thurs, Sunday and then not again till the following Saturday. I didn't put on any weight in fact I lost .3 lb which was fine with me as an…
  • Great thoughts Andie. I'm 24 weeks in and it does take a while to find your own path. How about sparkling mineral water or soda water for a special drink on fast days. I have one in the evening but drink lots of peppermint tea, hot and cold and water. I'm happy with losing 24 lbs in 24 weeks at 60. We have scrambled egg…
  • Hi Autumn thanks for accepting me in the group. Hi all I'm Chris. I'm 60 and started 5:2 with my husband on February 20. We've done 24 weeks and I've lost 24 lbs. After 3 months my blood test showed my cholesterol had gone from 5.9 to 4 and my liver function increased by 100% so the doctor said after 20 years on statins I…
  • Behindblueeyes I've been taking thyroxine for 21 years and I've just found out you need to take it 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast for it to be absorbed properly. I changed to this routine a week ago and after being on a plateau for 2 months I've now lost 2.2 lbs in a week!!!
  • Thanks for that Mel. It explained much and I'm off to have a thyroxine blood test today. Can you believe I've been taking thyroxine for 21 years and it wasn't till I read a post some 10 days ago that I realized I should be taking my thyroxine dose 30 to 60 minutes before food. For all those years I've been taking it with…
  • My cholesterol went from down after 3 months on 5:2 but so did my TSH so I had to lower my oroxine dose.
  • I've done 5 months on 5:2 lost 22 lbs but more important my cholesterol dropped from 5.9 to 4 in 3 months and my liver function improved 100 %. It does get easier and you do settle into a pattern and the headaches don't seem to come after the first month. My tip a fast buddy helps. I'm doing it with my husband who wanted…
  • Hi Beerdan I had thyroid cancer 21 years ago and have no thyroid and take 125 mm of oroxine. I know the tiredness and the difficulty losing weight. This year I decided to try the 5:2 way of eating and have lost 10 kg, lowered my cholesterol from 5.9 to 4 and increased my liver function by 100%. I'm 60 but reasonably…
  • In the 5:2 book by Michael Mosley it suggests when you have reached your goal like Michael you change to 6:1 and I note some on here change between 6:1 and 5:2 if weight gain occurs. Maybe I misunderstood you did I answer the question?
  • 1/2 cup carrot and 1/2 cup pumpkin dry baked in the oven on bake paper for an hour. Add a 70g salmon fillet topped with 1 teas of ginger and low salt soy for the last 20 minutes. Serve with lettuce greens or 1/2 cup of broccoli. Comes in just under 200 calories.
  • I have 3 fast soups I make. Pumpkin soup Place 2 teaspoons of garlic in a pan add .5 onion chopped and sauté. Add 500g pumpkin or butternut squash add 4 cups of water and cook 20 minutes. blend.. Makes 6- 8 cups at 56 cals a serve. Carrot and ginger soup Place a leek and 2 teas of grated ginger in a pan and sauté. Add 6…
  • "I'd rather take psilocybin. " Several of you said this. I'd never heard of it so I googled it. Have I missed something .Wikipedia said it comes from a mushroom and has a similar chemical composition to LSD? Is this what you are recommending for fibre?
  • Could someone please explain what is so good about psilocybin? I've been on 5:2 for 16 weeks and have lost 21 lbs and great blood results but I have real problems with constipation. Before you ask I drink more than 8 glasses of water. The dr has dropped me down on my thyroxine substitute oroxine which doesn't help. But I'm…

  • I love oats for breakfast. Does that count? I use .25 cup of whole grain oats and .5 cup of water. Microwave for 1.50 minutes. Then add 1 tblsp of mixed seeds and sultanas, 6 red grapes halved and 1 tablespoon of lite yoghurt. After a fast day it taste wonderful!
  • Luch It does get easier on fast days. My husband and I are both doing it and we agreed today was our easiest fast. After 14 weeks we've both lost 20 lbs and I've had incredible changes to my cholesterol!! We basically have egg and mushroom for breakfast, homemade soup for lunch(I have a vege soup that's 24 cal a serve) and…
