Nottinghamshire here. I got a badge from MFP telling me I’ve been using it for 10 years! It really helped me when I wanted to make big changes and now I just use it to keep me in check to hit my goals. Happy to make new fitness pals, unless you are a weirdo :smiley:

You can add me if you like. I run regularly but as part of a wider exercise regime, I’m not a natural runner. Last year I did my first half marathon (just under 2hrs so not setting the world alight) but mostly just 5-10ks. I’ll do another half this year, hopefully somewhere exotic

I don’t have one, my phone tells me all I need to know and I use Runkeeper to log runs, Strava for my bike. However, you may want to save your money.... There is some interesting research that suggests owning a tracker actually has the opposite effect to the desired effect!…

A lot of the activities pre-logged on MFP are wildly over generous on calories burned. Roughly, if you run (or walk) a km you will burn 100KCal if you are of average build, but if you are heavy this burn will be higher, lower if light. OK, thanks for the correction. I thought it might be bro science, hence my *(apparently)*. Didn't realise it was so far off. Less than a pounds worth of energy a year, pftt, I'm going to stop lifting altogether..... not really, I freaking love it.

If you lose weight, your calorie burns (with exercise) decrease so you might want to re-calibrate your MFP settings. Knock booze on the head for a month (it is only a month) and replace it with exercise and feeling smug instead. Most importantly, log EVERYTHING and keep at a significant weekly deficit. Yup - there are a few around me in Nottingham, so I rotate. Great start to the weekend and I always run faster than on my own doing 5k

A big calorie deficit can definitely get some immediate losses and your goals are totally achievable. If I were you, I'd also start planning for after week 5 so you can create a maintainable regime for the long term. Good luck! Come back in 5 weeks and let us know how you get on.

I'm afraid porridge oats are lumpy. Ready Brek and others are powdered oats, making them quicker to cook and giving a smooth consistency. Not sure there is any difference in health benefits, but oats are certainly cheaper - I get a 1.5kg bag for about 75p!

Almost every morning I have 50g good quality oats (not the powder you get in cheap bags) with 250ml semi skimmed milk. 2:40 in microwave. Add tbsp maple syrup, some flaked almonds, cinnamon and raisins. Fresh fruit if I have. Its splendid.
