  • Much the same as you Kat...
  • Graduated last week (been on holiday, no WiFi!!) TOUGH 5km but it can only get better, right?
  • Delayed onset muscle soreness?? Water, water, water. Aspirin or paracetamol, massage, and RICE. The usual. Oh and what others have said about running shoes.
  • I run WITH my horse... Sounds daft, but I'm an endurance rider so it works for me. I like Belles783's comment though - the horse will appreciate the lighter rider with better core strength!
  • W8D3 on my version of C25K: 28 minute run. Forced onto the treamill due to heat (I'm in Australia). I HATE treadmills: it's so boring. Anyway - it's done. I'm starting to ponder on "what's next" after I finish C25K. I don't think I want to enter actual races (the main reason I am doing this is to be able to get off and run…
  • Week 8 day 2 done. Tough, but I got it done.
  • My mantras are: "The only run you'll regret is the one you didn't do" "It's only 1 minute/2 minutes/4 minutes further that last time" "You know the first 10 minutes suck. Then it's fine" And lastly: "You're going to expect your horse to carry you 100 miles i May' Every mile you run then will help him. You owe it to him"…

  • Humph. Went to the gym to run at lunchtime and it was closed for painting... Tomorrow's forecast down here in the Southern hemisphere: 41 C (almost 106F). Gym still closed. Guess I'm running at 5.30 a.m. then...
  • Been absent a while: Achilles issues kept me sidelined over Xmas but I am back. Dropped back a few weeks in the programme so i could build the tendon back up gradually: yesterday I finished W7D3 - 25 minute run. It was WARM in the gym but I did it.
  • If you don't stretch anything else immediately after running, find time to stretch the calves and (gently) Achilles. Shin splints are the beginner runner's biggest enemy I reckon.
  • I'm from Western Australia (and I hear you ukunbanshee, our forecast for the next few days is consistently over 40 - that's 104 in old Fahrenheit you lot from the USA!!). We live in what is known as the Wheatbelt: 300mm annual rainfall, so it's pretty much the desert (and I used to live in Devon, UK, so moving here was a…
  • Probably... One of the "rules" of C25K is not to run every day. rest and recovery is also important. If I try and run 2 days in a row my Achilles will tell me what a bad idea that was.. But don't beat yourself up: we all have crap runs, and hey, you were trying!. If I were you I wouldn't try again on the scheduled day, but…
  • Just found this thread. Awesome idea. I'm back in MFP after falling off the wagon for a while... I did week 4 day 3 yesterday. Tad nervous about week 5...
  • I RAN 5KM TODAY!! I have a 5km Fun Run on Sunday - but the husband and my daughter are coming along so it won't be a full on run. So I decided to do it today instead, and just enjoy the slower paced 5km on Sunday.
  • Welcome. I can't help on the Hashimoto's but I can identify with the weight gain after having children! Slow and steady, use ALL the resources and support available to you here. Good luck. friend me if you like.
  • It's BOTH. When you eat healthy, and clean, and don't eat processed foods, and make sure the bulk of your nutrition comes from vegetables, good fats, lean protein and minimal grains, it's actually quite HARD to eat excess calories! You get up to about 1600 a day and you feel full all the time (or at least I do). I am at…
  • OK, I'll admit it. I'm shallow. I love the fact that I can now run for 30 minutes... But I still want to drop 5 kilos so I look better in my clothes :) (I want to sock it to all the tennis moms doing the school run...)
  • HI All I'm in Australia Dawn. VERY rural. The ponies are outside my back door so that means I can fit it all in. That plus a very supportive husband!

  • Where should I start LOL! Oh and careful Bellehavenfar... I LOVE Arabs! We have 5 horses... 1. Joe, my "main man". He is an Arab X ummm something or other, palomino, 15.2. He and I mainly do endurance, but he also allows my two girls to putter around on him. He is very careful and gentle when they are up there, even when…

  • First, great job on the weight loss already! I'm 45, 10 kilos (22lbs) overweight and lost my fitness along the path of having 2 kids and a full time job. Cutting carbs (so the family and I eat the same, they have a few carbs and I just don't eat that bit), portion control, and doing C25K. Lost nowhere near as much as you…
  • Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell and All Revved up with no Place to Go Lots of stuff by Pulp, a British rock band The Jam, Beat Surrender and A Town Called Malice The Cruel Sea (Australian rock) Oasis Nirvana U2 (Desire, War) Fine Young Cannibals Madness Australian ska music I'm stuck in the nineties...
  • Somewhere in the middle of nowhere... otherwise known as Wheatbelt WA! feel free to add me.
  • Dad rode, Grandad rode... I was on a horse at the age of two. All 3 kids in my family had the opportunity, but I was the one with the passion. I rode a series of feral tricky ponies as a kid - Dad bought and sold and I was the mug who got to work them. Then I got a goodie in my 14.2 eventing pony and dug my toes in - he…
  • I have posted my 3rd 30 minute run so I have (kinda) graduated!! However it wasn't 5km... it was 4.5! The plan today is to get on the treadmill and se eif I can run 5km even if it takes me more than 30 minutes, then I will feel like I have really done it!
  • Way to go shydaisi!! I have week 9 day 2 today. Day 1 was OK (ish). I too worry about losing motivation afterwadds but I ahve some work to do on my speed to actually cover 5km in 30 minutes (I'm close - the treadmill tells me I'm doing 9l.5 km.hr so I only have 250 metres to find!!) I don't know where I would find time to…

  • Week 7 day 1 done today. 25 minutes is longer than i think I have run since High School... Averaged 9.5 km/hr. so with warm up and cool down walking, total distance covered was 5km. Yay me! I have decided to enter a local 5km fun run in April to keep me motivated...

  • Well, I fell off the C25K juggernaught over the XMas break and it's taken me till now to get back to week 6.. Did week 6 day 1 yesterday. PHEW. Somehow felt tougher than week 5 day 3! We have a solid week of very hot weathe rforecast so treadmill all week for me...

  • Did week 5 day 2 this morning. Wasn't easy, but it's done! I ran outside (it's warm here downunder!) and the first 8 minutes is up a slight hill from our place... Thinking I might do the 20 minute run on the treadmill ;)

  • Walked 1.0 yesterday and ran 5.0km today. Total for December so far 31.7km so on track to break 50 by the end of the month :)
  • Week 6 day 1 today. Can't decide whether to run outside in the rain (which feels great but since I wear glasses means I can't see!) or inside on the treadmnill surrorunded by gym bunnies!
