  • I love all the food!!! Moderation in all things. Stay within your calorie goals, and reasonably watch your macros. And there will be days it just doesn't work out. Just make those occaisional days, not every day! It is a marathon, not a sprint. (I've been logging for over 2,000 days, and have been at a healthy weight for…
  • Parenting is hard. Having a healthy lifestyle is hard. It definitely is a matter of making better choices in every situation, but the situation is different for different families, and at different stages, and even for different kids. I have one kid for whom school is a breeze. His way of learning just fits "the system",…
  • At least we are not alone. . . . My frustration level goes up and down for sure.

  • At age 12-14 I became chunky after being a very skinny kid. My best friend was lumpy. Young adolescence was not kind to us! Both of us grew into slim, healthy older teenagers. I did become aware of how food contributed to my appearance at this point, but I had to make the decisions on my own! My guess is that most of this…
  • This! Only my goal is 1300, so I skip the evening snack unless I have extra calories or am super hungry. Also, I often work out between 4:30 and 7, and this keeps me from snacking so much because I don't like for my tummy to be too full when I work out, and it takes a while for my appetite to rebound after my workout!
  • My teenage late blooming self would be shocked to hear me say this, but I wish mine would get a bit smaller too! (Hubby would be quite disappointed too!)
  • MFP is set up for you to eat the calories you earn during exercise. So the 1200 is a net eating goal. For example--net goal is 1200. You burn 200 during a run. Enter that on MFP So now you can eat 1400, which is what MFP will show you. Because you are already relatively small (very similar to me at 5'2" and 132 lbs), this…
  • This! And, moderation is everything! Diet soda won't keep you from losing weight, but it is probably not a good idea to have large amounts every day. I have 3-4 a week, if I want them. More in the summer because in the winter I'm a big coffee drinker. I find a diet soda or coffee can keep me from snacking.
  • This is awesome advice!
  • Love my misfit flash! Nothing is the gold standard for accuracy, but it gets me in the ballpark!
  • I would agree with the advice of the previous responses. But about adding size in the chest--I was a late bloomer (and naturally very slim). I did not get bigger than an "A" cup until well into my 30's, so it is not unusual for that to change at your age. Now, I seem to actually gain in the chest more than other places…
  • When I was in my main losing phase, hubby lost his job and had to take one making 1/2 his salary. Money was very tight. It actually helped me because we couldn't eat out! Frozen veggies are your friends. Also the crock pot. Cheap cuts of meat are great in the crock pot! The only thing that really is more difficult on a…
  • I have two teen boys that we adopted as newborns. When my boys were preschool/toddler age, I was in to see my ob/GYN and I complained that I had gained just as much weight as my friends who had birthed their babies. She very passionately said, "this just confirms what I have been saying for years--that it is not pregnancy…
  • Ahhh donuts! They're not my biggest weakness, but I sure do like one every now and then! But don't give me KK or DD. I don't want to waste any calories on those! I want one from the local shop (within walking distance of my house!). They've been voted best in my city. When I get ready to sell my house, I will advertise my…
  • I wish I had learned this sooner. I spent several fruitless months saying, "but I should be able to eat x number of calories and lose/maintain". In the end, if you are losing, you are in deficit. If you gain, you're in surplus, and maintaining means you are eating what your body currently uses. I spent those months being…
  • I've been taking black cohosh now for about three weeks and just finished my first cycle. Over the past months, my period had gotten increasingly long and heavy. It was lasting like two weeks, although it would only be heavy for about four days. This month I still had cramping (nothing new for sure!) and my flow was…
  • I get it occaisionally. I thought it was more age than hormones. It hits out of the blue for me, with no warning and doesn't last more than a few seconds at a time. The first time it happened I thought I was having a stroke or something. Now I just grit my teeth and know it will pass. I do know now not to ride on swings…
  • @whmscll -- I feel the same way. I've not had a scan, but various ways and measurements seem to put me around 30%. But I look somewhere between the 21 and 25 picture. So I'm not so sure about this. . . .
  • The Misfit app doesn't allow editing activities for adjusted calorie burns. You can log it but it doesn't change the TDEE reported. This is quite distressing for those of us who are OCD about our numbers and like all our sites to match up! But you can make a note of this in MFP note sections and account for it.
  • This is actually very good @bubbex2 ! Hang in there. When you are already small (relatively speaking all of us who are members of this group are small) 1 lb a week is right on target!
  • So I missed a dose of the cohosh this morning. I feel like I'm about to spontaneously combust, so it must be helping with the hot flashes!
  • That doesn't sound right! Do you have the parameters (height and age) set correctly?
  • Here is a quote from @tabletmfp from the above mentioned menopause thread. Perhaps it is reason for hope if we just hang on. . . . "The most difficult time I had was when I was pre menopausal at 48 or 49. No matter what I did or how little I ate I could not loose more than a pound! I was in Weight watchers then and even if…
  • 30 lbs is amazing! You look great!
  • This has not been a problem for me, but last week when I did a run-sprint-walk workout, I had this issue every time I sprinted. NOT COOL!!!! I hope it was just because I had not gone to the restroom before the run. Ya gotta love all the menopause fun and laugh! Or cry!! Or maybe do both at the same time, since your…
  • This is encouraging overall! Maybe if I just hang in there for a few more years. . . , At least I've stopped gaining!
  • [/quote] This is right in the average range as far as everything I have read over the years. Menopause does not have as much of an effect on metabolism as people like to think it does. Yes, it does slow a little, but the actual amount for the vast majority of women is not majorly significant. The change in hormones and…
  • Something definitely changed for me. I was maintaining my loss for about a year and changed nothing (at least not on purpose! I'm sure small things have changed) when suddenly I started a slow gain that has lasted for three years. So for me I would say that likely my metabolism changed. What that means is that there is no…
