I've gone on 2 really good dates with a guy, but I'm afraid to sleep with him because of my body insecurities. I fear he's seen me only in the 2 flattering outfits I've chosen and will be disappointed : (

I like to make my own "breakfast pots" in tupperware for the week on Sundays. 3/4 c plain greek yogurt, sliced strawberries, handful of blueberries, and sometimes a small amount of granola and/or honey. You can honestly add just about anything though. Making them ahead of time makes it easy and quick to eat or grab in the…

Apparently people who have lost weight have a lower NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) which is made up of little calorie burns like fidgeting. The body subconsciously is always trying to conserve energy after weight loss without you even realizing. I don't think there are/know of studies that follow people long…

Just limit it to social events these days.

Gah people are rude. Don't worry about everyone arguing with you about whether or not you truly have a high bf% or distorted body image. My advice is simple: you're at a healthy weight but don't like your body composition. Obvious answer is strength training while eating at maintenance, if not above if you find that you…

I don't measure and I've lost 30+ pounds, albeit more slowly than if I were more stringent. I found that measuring every little bite made me anxious and a bit obsessive, so for me I'd rather lose slowly with a healthier mindset. And given that you are switching from measuring days to non-measuring days pretty regularly,…

This seems like a The Road Not Taken situation :)

I set mine to lose 1.5 lbs/week and it gives me a 1200 goal. I often go over 1200 but in reality, I'm happy to lose even a pound/week, so it's not a big deal. I have my calorie goal set low so its more of a big reminder to stop eating. For example, if after lunch I see I have 400 cal left for dinner, I tend to make smarter…

Not to seem as if I am giving praise for a high-sodium diet, but provided your sodium intake doesn't fluctuate, it won't cause you to gain/lose any water weight. It's only an issue if one week (weigh-in) you eat a lower sodium diet and then increase your intake, causing an increase in water weight (and conversely if you…

I buy new clothes. It helps me feel good and look good! I also lose at a very slow pace, though, so I get some use out of them.

I like this rule! When I was little and I would complain that I was hungry my mom would say "eat an apple" and when I would say I didn't want an apple her answer was always "well you must not be that hungry then." Are you being especially restrictive during the day time? I find that my desire to binge comes from constantly…

This maybe is a mix of scale and non-scale: I work in healthcare and anytime obesity comes up as a risk factor, measure, etc. I always felt super self-conscious. This most recent time it was discussed was the first time I could sit there knowing that I was no longer clinically obese!

A few studies have linked TMAOs found in red meat with increased cardiovascular disease but there have been other contradictory studies as well, so it is unclear. Given the conflicting evidence, cutting out animal products entirely for health reasons probably doesn't add up. You certainly can be healthy on a vegan diet,…

I could have been more clear that muscle glycogen will only deplete in the setting of intense/prolonged exercise (e.g. marathon runners hitting the wall). As for protein not being the first choice for gluconeogenesis...BRB let me go tell all my professors at Tufts School of Medicine that they were wrong. Perhaps this will…

Here's something at least a little more scientific for your liking (off the top of my head, so if you want more, I suggest the internets): When you eat carbohydrates you have circulating glucose (sugar) in your bloodstream which your body uses for fuel. Your liver and muscles also store some of this excess glucose in the…

A common (and I think good) recommendation around here is to eat 50-60% of your exercise calories back. That way you aren't depriving yourself, but have a little wiggle room since mfp tends to overestimate calorie burns a bit. You can always try that for a few weeks and then adjust up/down accordingly. Good luck!

I've got it! Unfortunately my mom who is an OBGYN nurse practitioner figured it out back when I was in hs and didn't tell me (guess she didn't want to stress me out?? grrr). Either way, she did have me go on birth control. When I figured out I had it via the internetz in college, I started going on metformin which I have…

I try to pre-pack snacks for long days at the library or do my best to study at home, that way I have cheap and easy access to healthier foods. Although it's not the most pleasant, I often make one or two big batches of healthy food and eat it for a bunch of meals during the week.

So effing sick of seeing the term "clean eating."

I don't log it and just think of it as a little bonus on the scale. Sometimes I drink a little bit of orange juice during class along with water and sometimes I won't log that either. I figure they cancel each other out a bit :)

I've done aerial silks for a bit and am now starting hoop & trapeze. It is HARD and even in shape people typically don't have the strength needed to do it right away, and that's okay! Instructors know that and will work with you to build strength while learning the basics. Often gyms have "taster" classes or one-offs where…
