When did you lose dress sizes?

Me and friends on mfp were discussing this and im interested to hear from others- how many pounds did you lose to go down in dress sizes?
Ive lost 20lbs and while my pants are definitely baggy, no size change yet. Ive read here in the past that it took alot to go down that first size, and then less and less for the rest. (Im currently a size 20).

Down 25 lbs. so far and still not down a dress size. However, my midriff has diminished considerably and my shirts look like maternity tops on me.0

The smaller the size, the less it takes to change. I started at a 16, and it took 12 lbs to drop a size, maybe 10 more to drop to a 12, another 8? to get to a 10, and probably around 5 lbs to an 8 from there.0

Depends on your starting size. I was wearing 6's (at 160 pounds) in an a line dress, because I have a small upper body (but my lower body would have needed a 10-12 in a fitted dress). I've lost 27 pounds and though I usually need a 4 or 2 on top, my bottom finally fits in a fitted size 6. So, body shape also plays a big role.0

I'm down 25 pounds (started at 234) and am a size 18, although it is a little baggy now. I still have not dropped a dress size, but think maybe in 10 or so pounds I'll be a size 16. I am 5' 10" and I think height also plays a part in how the weight is distributed on your body.0

Larger sizes, like above 10 or 12, have a larger range, like two inches between sizes instead of one. So to go to from a 20 to an 18 will take 20-25 pounds, wheras from a 10 to an 8 usually takes around 10 pounds.
Where you lose from might also factor in. For example, if your hips lose faster than your waist, it might take longer to go down a size than someone else who loses more evenly between waist and hips. Height may also be a factor as sisterparker said. If you are tall, the fat is spread out more so you may need to lose more to drop a size than someone who is shorter.

Started size 6/8 lost 10 pounds, solid size 4. Went from 37/29.5/40.5, 147.6, to 36/26.75/37.5, 137.6.0

Thank you! Great answer! Im 5'5" and seem to have lost from my fingers and boobs only lol. Havent taken my measurements lately though. It almost feels unreal, because ive lost 20lbs, but wearing the same clothes. I know ill feel better once i wear a whole new size! But im still sooo happy about my losses so far!0 -
I have lost 29. I was wearing 24 and they were tight and I now can wear size 20. I lost inches in my waist first before I ever lost weight.

I'm 5'5" and started wearing size 18's (pants/jeans) comfortably at around 225. Was wearing size 20's (pants/jeans) at 250.
I'm 205 now and am still wearing 18's but they are gaping at the waist and getting too long in the legs and the rise. 16's are still a little too tight, though, I don't like any muffin top whatsoever, and so long as there is some you won't find me wearing them in public.
I'm bottom-heavy, my top size hasn't changed much. 2x (sometimes 3x) down to a 1x/xl. I wear tees and sweaters, not blouses and blazers, and those kinds of garments are lot more imprecise and tend to be a lot more forgiving of a changing body.

I lost about 25 lbs total, and I've gone from a size 12 (in pants) to a size 4. But there was no pattern or certain number of pounds down for each size dropped - I actually went from a 6 to a 4 without losing any weight on the scale, just lost inches.0

Not really sure but at the beginning it felt really slow and after a while I just kept not fitting into existing clothes
when I started I was bursting out of size UK 16 (US 12), I think within 20lbs I'd dropped to a decent 14 (US 10) so possibly 1.5 sizes
I've lost 48lbs (roughly) and am a 10-12 (US 6-8) dependent on make0 -
Last time I lost weight I dropped 3 sizes on bottom and 4 on top with around 35lb. I was a lot younger then, I don't know if that makes a difference0

From about 220 pounds (at about 5'9") to about 190 pounds has been two sizes for me: A UK 20 to a 16. So 15 pounds a size currently.0

I went from 167lbs to 112lbs and in that time had to buy new jeans twice, so about every 25-30lbs. Though jeans were the only new thing I had to buy, didn't notice a difference in my tops. They were baggy at 167 and they were baggy at 112.0

on my 5' 4" frame, I started at 243 and was wearing size 22s. With almost 40lbs. lost I was down to a size 18 in most things, but my latest dresses were size 16s0

ive lost 23 pounds (as of this morning) and haven't dropped a size in dress/ pants yet.
now in TOPS - i have - thats where all my weight is coming off LOL (4 inches off my bust size!) - i was anywhere from an 18/20 shirt size (so 1X/2X, depending on sizing) at 250 pounds and now am probably a 16 (most of my tops dont have numbers LOL) and i would say an XL (i have a couple of tops and jackets that are smaller than that, but i dont think they are 'true' sizes, so ill go with XL lolol)
my jeans ARE looser (in a pant i was a 20 sometimes 22) but i cant fit into the 18s i have. But again, sizing is weird and they might be a small 18.
measurement wise, its definitely slow going off my bottom half too, so its not *just* wonky sizing (i wish it was! LOL!)0 -
I've lost 20lbs and not gone down a dress size yet, could be that my clothes were tight and now they fit properly. I'm 5'8, 195lbs and apple shaped so carry all weight on my belly! Have decided to try clothes shopping at Easter in 5 weeks time to see where I am then!0

I don't wear dresses so I can't help with those sizes, but as far as jeans, I started at 242 lbs(5'6") and wore a size 20, I've lost 27 lbs and just this week tried on and fit in my old 16's.0

Depends on where you are...heavier, taller people tend to lose sizes slower than when you get closer to your goal weight. I'm 5'11, went from 166.4 to 156.4 and lost 2 pants sizes (12-8). Same pants, 2 sizes smaller. I'm assuming when I get to 150 I'll be in a lose size 8, some 6's. A-line dresses I'll always need a smaller size in, usually an 8 or a 6 even when I'm in the low 60's because I have a very narrow back.

I've lost 58 lbs, and have so far gone down from a 24 (UK sizes) to a 20/18 (20 is too big now, and 18 just a touch too small). It did take me a few months to get past a 24, and I suspect that as I keep losing it will get quicker to go into smaller sizes.

15 pounds was usually a size for me. Remember though--every single piece of clothing is sized a little bit differently (even 2 pairs of jeans that are otherwise identical may fit differently depending on where the fabric was in the stack when it was cut, etc.). And brand-to-brand variation may be huge!
Now that I am closer to my goal weight it seems that 5 pounds is sometimes enough to be the difference (I would rather be comfortable in a size 6 rather than squeezed into a size 4 just for the sake of wearing a size 4).0 -
I started around your size. It took about 35 lbs. for the first size drop. As you get smaller, that number gets smaller as well. I'm a size 10ish now, and it's only about 10 lbs. to drop a size.0

Whoohoo love hearing from all you guys! So great seeing success. Like alot of others here, im small on top and big from the hips down. Keep up all the terrific work! And let us know when you notice any changes from your current size!0

I started at a size 16, or at least, I thought so. Turns out that I was BARELY fitting into that size 16. I dropped a dress size ever 15-25 lbs, I think, until I got to be size 10. Dropping from size 10 to size 8 was about 8-10 lbs. Dropping from size 8 to size 6.. well.. I've only fit in a few size 6s, but I would say 5 lbs to get into some of them? Maybe 5 lbs more to be able to wear all size 6s.0

For me it's about 10-15 lbs to move from size to size (10-6). It mostly matters where the weight comes from though. I lose weight in my waist pretty quickly, but my hips and butt are a struggle.0

I started to see my clothes changing when I lost around the 10-15 lb mark. I was doing a lot of weight training and then once I saw the drop it was like a flood gate opened and I was having to get new pants every month. It just leveled out when I reached my current weight (goal range). Enjoy clothes shopping though. That was really fun!0

Pear shaped here as well and losing way more on top currently than on the bottom. I am down 16 lbs and while all my current pants are definitely very loose (some almost falling off!) I just can't yet fit into the next size. It is very frustrating because I don't want to buy new clothes because I have some in almost EVERY size! However, I suspect that part of my problem is that I have been at my current size for several years now - the clothes I am trying to fit back into were pre-kids and my body shape is just not the same. I think I need to suck it up and buy new clothes0
