  • I cry when I'm working out if I'm otherwise overwhelmed. But I know working out will help me feel better in the long run, so I just go with it. I wear a baseball cap while I'm on the rowing machine or whatever and just keep it pulled down enough for plausible deniability. Talk therapy might help, I don't know. But the…
  • I was once told something similar: having babies would "flush out" all the fat. But the person who told me that was a pre-teen trying to be supportive, so they get a pass.
  • Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner in the category! :D
  • For me, it was two things: first, the way I'd lost the weight originally (weight watchers) was unsustainable for me - it's too low fat for me. Second, my weight has always been a barometer of my emotional state, and I experienced multiple bereavements within a short time span. I didn't regain all the weight. I joined MFP…
  • The thing about eating late at night is about lying supine right after -- excellent way to give yourself heartburn. It has nothing to do with burning calories. OP, is there something specific you're craving? Maybe look at your diary and see what macro you could stand to get a bit more of. For me, it's usually protein, and…
  • THIS. Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good. You don't have to be perfectly outfitted, with equipment & shower & oodles of time. Just get moving. If you're sitting at a desk, stand up and sit down 10 times. Take the stairs to the next floor to go to the bathroom. Little things will add up!
  • It's worth asking around town to see who the best teachers for beginners are - because like the poster above said, proper form is important. Really, really, important! You can hurt yourself otherwise. And the best teachers will explain what a pose looks like, and feels like both when you're doing it right AND when you're…
  • They aren't condiments, per se, but I like a 1/4 cup of side-dish things like cole slaw or pickled red cabbage on burgers. Taste, crunch, and juicyness are what I look for. (Cole slaw gets you the mayo taste, but with much less than a tablespoon.)
  • Yikes! I just looked "rhabdomyolysis" up :# On a lighter note, I've noticed this as well. Glad to hear back from OP that it's going away as expected.
  • That's interesting! I wonder if mine is like that. (Too bad I didn't get one for Christmas!)
  • food scale, body weight scale, hiking boots, and stick blender :-)
  • I hope you're feeling better now! But to answer your question, most of what you "lost" is probably water. Concentrate on rehydration for the next week or so, and wait till you stabilize before weighing in.
  • If I'm going to drink my calories, they better be alcoholic
  • I've learned to separate out different types of hunger. For me, the hunger pattern that was causing the most havoc was the one caused by post nasal drip -- it makes me feel like I need something in my stomach to absorb it, but it was leading to random grazing behavior. Once I started tracking, I realized that a lot of the…
  • This, and don't forget to check out the "recipes" forum here for some very good ideas.
  • I love creamy soups like chowders when it's colder, and found a great hack: puree. For a chowder, I'd puree a potato and add it back in -- means no actual cream is necessary. I also love this black bean soup from Weight Watchers: https://www.weightwatchers.com/us/recipe/spicy-black-bean-soup-1/5626a5ef2084d63a340186b2
  • I don't think I'll ever stop feeling fat on occasion. But this summer I stopped looking at myself and seeing fat. I'm at my lowest adult weight ever -- still a few pounds from goal (and quite a ways from body recomposition), but I started liking the way I look in pictures. Even when they aren't perfectly posed (you know:…
  • I once blurted out to a friend I hadn't seen in a while, "Good lord, I can see your ribs!" She didn't respond, but in the course of the conversation it became clear that she'd been through a difficult time emotionally, and was recovering. I'm thankful that she was insightful enough to see that my lack of tact was driven by…
  • I think they're also using the term with this definition in mind: transitive verb; 1 a: to break violently and noisily
  • That's my plan too :-)
  • I keep pumpkin or sunflower seeds in my desk. A tablespoon (~50 calories) is usually all I need to carry me through to lunch.
  • I've always been variable, energy-wise; sometimes I feel totally drained and sometimes I feel like I have to DO ALL THE THINGS NOW. The only thing that changed as I got older (47) is that it doesn't hurt as much, so yay for that  Be interesting to see how perimenopause manifests when that happens. I don't often take…
  • Maxwell House and Folgers make coffee bags -- pour in boiling water (or microwave), allow to steep, then dunk the bag up and down 20 times (package directions). I use them when I travel.
  • I don't log water, black coffee, oil spray, condiments (unless mayo), or gum. That would drive me crazy. I also don't log my tea with 2 tablespoons milk (avg) and 1 tsp sugar, because I'm going to drink that no matter what. I like the idea of quick-adding some calories to account for overage, will have to start doing that!
  • I think it's all relative. I eat at about the same speed as my brother. At the office, we eat lunch together, and I'm always the last one done. By far! Eating with friends, I'm often the first one done. I'm with @endlessfall16 -- as long as I don't choke, I'm good. That said, there's nothing wrong with trying to be more…
  • Liquid eggs with .5 oz grated cheese and other stuff like salsa mixed in - nuke 30 seconds, stir, repeat until almost cooked through (eggs will continue to cook for about a minute when removed from heat). Flatbreads like parathas or tortillas with 1oz melted cheese. Or what I had this morning: corn tortilla with an egg…
  • I'm getting the idea that you'd rather walk through lava than go grocery shopping ;-) Do you live in an area where you can order online? Or can you work out an arrangement with someone (neighbor?) who can shop from your list? Or get a standing order from a store so all you have to do is pay and pickup?
  • FWIW, it's been my experience that the slower I lose, the skin adjusts apace. (However, my starting weight was less, YMMV.) For fitness, you might want to look into videos that are recommended in this forum, and apps like Sworkit, which have calisthenics and body weight exercises (no equipment needed).
  • Terrific idea! I also like savory mix-ins like PB2, cheddar cheese & sage, or nutritional yeast -- these also up the protein content. (Nutritional yeast being this stuff: http://bragg.com/products/bragg-premium-nutritional-yeast-seasoning-salt-free.html)
