  • The scale can be the worst thing to tell you how you are really doing .. due to just what you found, huge fluctuations. It causes severe emotional issues, and countless threads here. I have personally seen up to 9 lbs in gain in a day and a loss of 9 lbs overnight. I do agree .. if you are going to do it, weighing first…
  • I very much have learned about the benefits of walking vs running .. the hard way. Contrary to what some runners will tell you, there is nothing but running. I might have thought so at one time .. until I got a running injury. I learned the benefits of walking .. from my physiotherapist (who has done many marathons and…
  • My sister told me "only dieters count calories" ... and I honestly agree. So .. it is not a thing you have to do, it is your choice. Contrary to what some may believe it is not a lifetime or even long term thing. But for some it has a time and place.
  • Lost 4 inches off my abdominal area in my first month. Then .. well 5 over the next 10 months, so it does not always make sense. But I understand .. still having issues cause my face just went on vacation in the end and I lost too much fat. You cannot control where it comes from .. as much as we would like to have that…
  • Just move on .. I did it on occasion in my journey. Guess what happened .. nothing and I still made my weight loss goal with no problem. And I did have some monumental days of being over. If there is one thing that people here should learn (hopefully from day 1) .. is that you will not explode and die if you go over. Do…
  • If I learned anything from MFP .. it is that the scale is not a good way to measure success. Oh .. and weight loss is not at all linear nor predictable. Just keep doing it, give it 3 weeks at least. If you still have issues .. look at your logging, either over estimated calorie burns or under estimated calorie intake is…
  • Those BIA scales are very inaccurate (ie Fitbit Aria) and it is totally normal ... you have to remember that you get what you pay for. Unless you are using an industrial quality model you will get just numbers. For example .. mine says 10% BF at night and 16% in the morning. So the ONLY thing they are good for is spotting…
  • So disappointed now .. :p
  • Rolls eyes ... and runs in case it is contagious :o
  • If there was one thing I learned in the last 16 months I have been here .. it is that the scale is often a horrible way to truly measure success. But it is how the majority of people do it, not always with good results especially if you take the results in an emotional way. Your weight will fluctuate. sometimes a lot. I…
  • Will it stop your weight loss .. no. Is it full of crap .. yes. I know many will disagree .. but as a former insane diet pepsi drinker, I am happy I no longer do it.
  • Do not use the MFP method ... it is not that great. Although it may be fine for beginners. TDEE -x % is a better idea once you know your true numbers.
  • Totally normal. Myself .. I had more emotional issues after getting to my goal weight. The one thing .. no one talks about is preparing yourself for the fact that you will not be the same person you were before. The emotional part can be far harder than the actual losing of the weight, at least it was in my case.
  • Due to the inaccuracy of fitness tracker calorie burns, some people have actually gained weight from them. (due to eating back of burnt calories based on inaccurate data) So .. you have to be careful on how you use them and the data they provide.
  • Guess they didn't like country music that much .. their account is deactivated.
  • She is crazy (her own admission) and 19 ,... no more needs to be said.
  • It is mostly genetic as to what really happens. There are no shortcuts or tricks. If there was we would all be doing it. I tried to gain fat in my face and gained 22 lbs and no change. Gaining like losing is just not always as controllable as we may like. However there is hope .. in the first month of my journey I lost 4…
  • I find that the more sugar / junk food .. ie ice cream .. the more the abdominal fat. As long as that is under control, no added abdominal fat.
  • Here at MFP these HRM's have some sort of special powers. But sorry .. they don't really possess anything special. They measure your heart rate, nothing more. The rest is just pure **** (a math calculation at best). I would strongly suggest before you get mixed up in the numbers just remember that they are not very precise…
  • Do it anyways .... my first class (16 months ago) at the gym I used a bar with 5 lbs on it. That was it. After sitting on the couch for 4 years and being super unfit ... I did it. Was it hard, yes. I felt sore after just 5 lbs on that bar. Now, I am pretty fit and have way way more weight on that bar. I can hold my own now…
  • I was at 7% body fat in the spring .. and looked like ****, it was an accident. I do not recommend it except in a few gifted people with the right type of body .. ie lots of muscle to back it up. Looking at your picture, you do not have the required muscle mass to make it a good thing. At 10% it is not likely to be what…
  • Not for you to take this wrong, but running is a very injury prone activity. But if you must, I would suggest that you extend the walking part .. and lessen the running, at least for a while. Running is very hard on the body .. and if I was you I would just do a brisk walk instead. All the benefits but no negatives. You…
  • Totally this one .. I am pretty sure I got sick recently due to this one. I always do it, as should everyone. And texting at the gym and needlessly using machines at the same time so that others cannot use them .. either text or workout, not both.
  • Just want to say .. you are very very likely over estimating your calorie burns, combined with questionable logging without a food scale and you get maintenance. I think that is really what we are dealing with here. If you are using your "device", which sounds pretty sure like you are ... I would cut it down by 40-50%. A…
  • Looked at your diary ... you are not eating enough and it doesn't appear you are eating back your exercise calories. There is this thing that new people fall into a lot. The more you workout and the bigger the deficit the more you lose. I think often that the opposite is true. You need a reasonable deficit .. TDEE-20%. And…
  • Nice post Mr Knight .. I honestly now do not worry about anything now. I just eat healthy (except for right now .. as I am trying to gain and am eating ice cream to get that fat level up. But this will be a short and very temporary phase). It is working ... I am able to see slight increases in fat level and will maintain…
  • That I would not like it at all when I got to my goal weight .. and am gaining now.
  • I hate to say it .. but your HRM cannot truly count your calories burned at all .. it does not have the technology. The ONLY thing it can do it count your heart rate. There is some aura about these devices and it is mostly hype .. however people are successful with them .. as they are not sitting on the couch watching tv…
