  • i'm 42 and find it easy if i stick to the rules: i do this, works every time without fail: For me it’s simple math, and this is the short version: Find out how many calories you maintain at and subtract 500 per day to lose 1lb per week (or subtract 1000 per day to lose 2lb per week). Here’s the longer version: I have a…
  • not sure high fat and low calories exist together in the same food, it would be wonderful if they did :) I eat 10-20g of coconut oil a day, i mix it with a variety of dishes and i always account for it my calorie intake. let me know if you find a high fat/low cal food though ;)
  • haha...omg, i keep my food scale in a drawer (i'm determined to have a very minimalistic kitchen) and have lost count of the number of times i open that drawer...it must be 50 times a day (feels like), which is a workout in itself (another plus maybe) :)
  • I'm 5.4 also, and currently weigh 132lbs, my goal is to get to around 122lbs so that when i maintain i have a few lbs either side as a buffer. I have a sedentary job, which results in a low BMR so to lose weight i do one of these (currently doing the 'lose 2lb a week' option as i want to lose the 10lbs faster) eat 1200…
  • Ha, i wasnt even close! S.California, lucky you, i bet you are missing the british weather SO much! haha
  • I'm in the UK..are you from the North, Lancs? Yorks?
  • I actually maintain around 1500-1600 because of my activity level in the day, so i need to stick to 1200 net just to lose 1lb per week. Last summer i was losing 1lb per week consistently by eating around 15-1600 per day and running/exercising off 300-400 cals, every day. When i didnt exercise or eat less to net the 1200,…
  • if you have the Nike runnin App, you could both challenge each other on there?
  • Hey, my thyroid is now stable, but it took a while for my doctor to get the meds right, are you taking meds for it? No need to answer, just asking because you will feel a whole lot better when those levels are under control, so i guess that might be a good starting point? Other than that, logging food and exercise on here…
  • Wowser - 'cheat' is a loaded word eh...but really, you think it's borderline disordered? Are you having a laugh? Just to be clear, i'm not on a lifestyle change, I'm on a diet, one that will result in fat loss. So when i dont stick to said diet, that means i'm not following the dieting rules which result in the fat loss i…
  • Thats a great approach and how i will be living every day once i'm at my 'goal' :) As for the 'cheat' in 'cheat meal' i do plan on doing something bad, it will involve sugar, fat and alcohol :)
  • Me! Not the resipes but Pinterest in general, i'm an addict, i'll admit.
  • GREAT question. Although i run 3 miles a day, i pretty much never ever want to..until i'm about a minute into it and then i think, omg, i'm loving this. So what i do is simply put my stuff on, get out the door and say to myself, i'll just do what i can. I'll aim for 3 miles but if i only do 5 minutes thats fine too. 99.9%…
  • calorie deficit is simply the amount of cals you need to lose weight (under your maintance cals), e.g. I maintain my current weight at 1600 calories a day, in order to lose weight, i need to eat less than that a day. If i want to lose weight fast, i'll eat wayyyyyy under that, if it want to lose it at a safer more…
  • a lovely old family friend once told me that as you get older, you have to make a decision between your figure or your face, when i asked her about it, she meant a skinny figure means you look more wrinkly, and rounder figure means less wrinkly. I guess is stands to reason, i'm aiming for somewhere between the 2. You could…
  • i always log my daily dog walks as exercise. A 45 minute walk with my pooches can earn me around 135 calories. Not sure about your cals...when i net 1200 calories, i lose 1lb per week (i have a much less active lifestyle than you, with a sedentary desk job). last summer, i was eating 1500 calories, and exercising off 300…
  • it's amazing how many well meaning people can just get it so wrong. You know what, if it's working and you're happy with it, go with that. I've just a done a weekly diet plan, my breakfast is the same every day, I have two lunches which i rotate throughout the week and 3 dinners which i rotate. I like to know where i am…
  • surely you meant to say 'take kale, cut into bite sized pieces, put 0.5-1tbsp of oil on the whole head of kale, put on a baking dish and bake until completely incinerated, then throw in the bin and go get some brocolli stead?' lol I buy kale all the time and throw it away. When i do ccok it, using a million ways to make it…
  • Ive just discovered this, apart from it being absolutely delicious, it's amazingly great for your health. I'm also going to stop using my lovely 'L'Occitane Almond oil' on my skin and use coconut oil instead as it'even purer.
  • cant believe the amount of unhelpful advise about being vegan in this thread, offered by people who are not vegan. There are 3 main things about being vegan 1) you really do need to make sure your diet is healthy and full of high quality fruits/vegetable/legumes/rice etc. Try looking into mediterranean cooking, its full of…

  • eating a raw vegan diet isnt an eating disorder, (seriously people..do some nutional research) but if you're going the vegan route then you do need to eat a healthy balanced diet. Anyone can eat fries for a week and call themselves vegan, but thats not what that lifestyle is about.
  • IAn organic apple vs none organic version will contain similar nutrition, but with the organic variety you're not getting the added extra of chemical sprays or waxes and they're often fresher (some none organic 'fresh' produce can be up to a year old)
  • Im Vegan, i guess if i had to choose just 7, i'd do more reserarch on the superfoods and go for a balance of nutrients throughout that range, and also consider the versatility of the food, so i could bake.steam, roast, blend etc and have many different dishes. Good luck
  • i never eat unless i'm hungry. My body clock tells me when to eat, not the man made time measuring clock :)
  • definitely...so i've begun to schedule a massive double session at the gym as i have more time at the weekend
  • i find its the hand to mouth action that i like, so I substitute the bad stuff for a bag of good stuff, like grapes, or blueberries.
  • I've been successful on just calorie based counting. I dont pay any attention to the ratios, but find they work themselves out to roughly what they should be over the week, when i eat healthy.
  • this is my demon too....but i lose control and undo all my hard work so ive made a pact with myself...no alcohol unless it's part of a planned cheat meal (my cheat meals are once every 3-4 weeks and take place in a restaurant as a night out). I once spent 4 years on the same diet, restricting in the week and binging at the…

  • Actually, it's pretty easy - my BMR is also 1266 (as a 42 year old woman) Remember that BMR is only the number of calories your body needs just to function, if you were in a coma, you'd need this amount of calorie intake. I have a home based desk job, so i dont get out much, but just being awake and moving and talking and…
