  • Haven’t been in the monthly challenges for a year due to physical and mental health issues and then just got out of the habit. I signed up for Jog on 2020 and aimed to do 30 miles within 12 days. I aimed to do 2-3 miles a day in the hope this would get me back into a habit of running regularly, and this has worked in that…
  • Hi. I didnt start running til i was in my 40s. Had a great running buddy for a while but then they had to stop due to injuries. Without the discipline of meeting someone else at a set time i am rubbish about getting out. Last November i joined a local group and they a lovely bunch, had a great few weeks, then got…
  • Thanks both
  • Sorry to every who has had races cancelled. Must be really hard when you have trained for something and then its csncelled. Ive made the decision to defer my half marathon place. I'm not ready, its 8 weeks away and i've hardly run due to ongoing chest rubbish (since the start of the year not the new big C). Also to be…
  • Sorry i am just dropping in to post and run. Today was a rough, tough day and anxieties have gone into a tailspin. The forecast for running club time was for 80% chance of rain and it was going to be a rush as we had parents evening first. I was tempted to go straight home for a stiff drink but reader i went to running…
  • Late joining as usual! No target again this month, just trying to get back into the routine and build up slowly after chest rubbish. 2 miles with the running club. Compared to where I’ve been this year it felt ok (no wobbly legs, still able to speak sort of) and it was slow, but I sounded like Darth Vader with a chest…
  • I finally got back my running club! I did the 1 mile with a leader and a new runner. It was very slow, not really any faster than walking but i managed to run unbroken. We did 1.5 miles in the end! I was a bit wobbly at the end, and wheezy but manageable, but it feels so good to have done it.
  • I can finally log my first run for this year! I used a free day pass to go to a local gym with my son. I walked 1.64km in 15 minutes, including a 45 second burst at 7.5km! It wasnt easy but after a short break we did some more gentle work in the gymand neither my chest or legs gave up. I still have an awful long way to go…
  • Thank both for your replies. Saturday we went to the zoo - we always do this for asd sons birthday so no way we could not do it I managed an hour (still walking slowly) then we had a break while kids had a play. Went for a another walk but after 30 minutes we had 5 minutes uphill and that Was it! I was done. Ladyreva78…
  • 2nd Feb and im already so far behind! Story of my life at the moment. I should have started half marathon training last month for an event in May, but after starting January with another bout of pneumonia i am still struggling with walking at normal speed and feel pretty rubbish. I am checking in as promise to myself that…
  • Thank you everyone for you replies. I am just feeling so fed up. I know there is no quick fix but grrr why isn’t there! I am just focusing on recovering - pills, steam, inhaler, rest, repeat ....
  • Advice needed for an overanxious very slow runner, who needs to balance the benefits of running and other exercise for my mental health, and how to get back to it after been ill for several weeks. My usual runs are a couple of times a week, 2-3 miles, about 12 minute miles - slow as I said. My last run was 27th Dec, when I…
  • First post in Jan because i haven't run yet this year! Typically i have just joined a running club and then got ill! I had a short rather wheezy run on 27th Dec and nothing since. I started with a cough next day, we had couple of days away. Didnt feel too bad except the cough and tired. Tuesday i took daughter to school…
  • Been on a while but friends list has dropped off a bit. UK based, turn 50 this year, but still young kids at home. A friend who is a PT spoke recently about how we should stop talking about new year new you - why do you need a 'new you' you're amazing just as you are! So no 'new he's but keeping working to improve. Last…
  • 2 mile run yesterday - bit wheezy. Cough today and bit of a sore chest. Was planning to join friends for a 5k to round of a year of fundraising but I'll see how it feels.
  • Apologies totally not keeping up with posts, hope every one is doing OK. Forecast for tonight was for 4 degrees and icy showers so I had decided I was going to give running club a miss. As I biked home though it was definately warmer than expected and dry, so with only 10 minutes to sort kit, get changed and go. Rain hit…
  • Another 3 miler with the running club tonight. Good steady pace and fractionally faster than last week (despite us getting a little lost! ) Total this month 11.5.
  • Well my planned 3 miler was cut a little short when I slipped in mud near the lake. No serious damage but took most of the skin off my knee because of course I skidded onto the concrete not the grass. Called it quits at that point and cut in to home so I could assess the damage (I had my full length winter leggings on -…
  • Second time out with the new running club. Went with the 3 milers tonight. Really enjoyed it, and felt confident I could do more. The group stays reasonably together through shepherding/ doubling back as needed, I think I’ll do more of that once I get to know the routes more
  • I made it to the running club tonight (planned to go last week but car wouldn’t start). Weather wasn’t great and forecast heavy rain but it held off mostly. Glad I went, nice group of people. It was timed runs tonight, but as it was my first i was partnered with someone for a slow steady 2. I’ll definitely go back.
  • Not a great run today as calf felt tight, but still better done than not done. Monthly total won't be massive but at least I'm back in.
  • So I found a local running group that meets at a time I can just about do. I'm not good at new things but have met one of the leaders and had messaged them to arrange. All day I've been fighting the excuses I could use to bale, and hubby was late home so I was cutting it very fine when I jumped in the car - which then…
  • Not been good about regular running, or posting so trying to do better and get back to twice weekly runs. Got out on Wednesday and today, 2.5 miles each time, slow but reasonably steady. My plan is to build up some stamina first and then work on speed. I did my first half marathon last year, finishing in 3 hours, I have…
  • Fantastic job. Well done
  • Yes we do have an urgent care facility at the GP but I am waving as to if I should use it. This is not life threatening, I can move about, but it’s not right.
  • Will do -if I can ever get a gp appointment! Currently no appointments for next 4 weeks!
  • Fantastic achievement! Well done for achieving your goal.
  • Missed a few months here but I'm back. Need accountability to keep getting out in the autumn and winter as I've signed up for the half marathon again next year. Best holiday ever - 18 day trip to States many years ago. We flew to LA then drove to Tucson to see an old friend, visited Desert Museum and Tombstone. Went on to…
  • Good luck. I'd recommend joining the monthly running challenge group on here. They are a really knowlegable, supportive group whether you are running your first mile or 18th marathon. I'll be there this month as I need to get out running again.
  • Thanks all. I don't know if it will lead anywhere, if he will do more running but it was an awesome thing to be part of. So very proud of him.
