Cloudy (again). Mid 30s F (again). Light sleet mixed with snow (better than drizzle). Caught some kind of bug Monday night, but was better by this morning. Saw a small flock of snow geese - first ones of the fall.
@Elise4270 we did. In fact, I copied it and used it to introduce my goal for 2019.
2020 goals:
Continue a 5k regimen.
Train better.

Got my long run done for the week. It was about 23k of cold, but other than one windy section, it wasn't as bad as I worried it would be. I guess I picked the right clothing. I took it easy and was slow enough for MFP to claim I was "jogging in place", as usual. It was a good run, with some new-to-me roads in my route, but it felt really long.
Then we took the kids ice skating (instead of swimming - my membership card can be used both places) and made it through 45 minutes of slowly following my youngest around, while dodging groups of selfie-taking teenagers. Ugggh. The rink was almost to capacity with groups today, and the lady working the desk even asked if I was sure I wanted to take my kids in there. Next time I'll swim and the kids can pick - either ice skate with Daddy watching from the coffee shop, or swim with me.
December goal 100 miles
Upcoming races:
Dec. 14 - CityTrail 5k (#3 of 6)
Jan. 11 - CityTrail 5k (#4 of 6)
2019k in 2019! Getting close!

Snowed today, but it was the big fluffy flakes that melt almost instantly on the ground. Being on the 7th floor I could watch the updrafts carry the snow up instead of down. So that was neat. Lots of meetings at work so watching the snow has been the highlight of my day so far12

December Goal: 100 Miles
12/1: 10.05 miles
12/3: 6.25 miles
12/4: 6.05 miles
22.35/100 miles completed
I ran six miles this morning. It was a really nice run, but it seemed cold. The temp was 39°F and there was no wind, so the "feels like" was also 39°, but it just felt cold to me. I think it was because my hands were really cold and numb. I was actually dressed really well in capri tights and a t-shirt and sleeves and gloves. It was just my hands that were cold and my arms were a little chilly. I think I would have been overly warm if I had worn a jacket. It was a pretty run though. Lots of stars were out when I started and the sky was starting to get light as I got home and it was just a lovely run. I tried practicing my snot rockets since my fingers were so numb I had a hard time getting my hanky in and out of my flipbelt. I'm not very good at snot rockets and truthfully I prefer a hanky or at least gloves will work in a pinch.

@elise4270 - we did do goals last year.
'Next year when you pop in here claiming your
December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?' was the question. I knew I would not be able to find it or remember what I had said so I copied it into OneNote where I knew I could find it again. I have searched through December 2018 and January 2019 threads and could not find where it was actually asked. Maybe this year I will copy off the link to it too
I did come across a post that made me sad... MobyCarp and I were both born in December and were the same age 😢

Been following this new adaptive algorithm for training and no runs this week until Sat. for marathon. Frustrated. When I figure my free time could be spent running.
OTOH, someone spent time trying to figure out how to take the caffeine out of coffee. My time is not wasted not that badly.5 -
Did almost 7 miles today (6.91) Don't ask me why I didn't just make it 7 lol. Guess I was just wanting to get home..
Getting used to running in the cold (for me). Finally have figured out the right gear to wear to start at least (the gloves and hat do come of half way through).
@quilteryoyo Read about your deer incident! Sorry to hear, glad you were ok.

I agree! I have no problem with the app myself but there are other ways of getting to the group.
I'm going to try to remember to actually keep a log going this month:
Dec 1 - No run, no anything
Dec 2 - 30 min walk with dh/28 min 2 mile RUN on treadmill which was 1.5 mile at 4mph and then I sped up to 5 and 6mph for the last half mile because I thought I was never going to finish going 4mph
Dec 3 - short dog walks and some other walking then 5k RUN outside which took me 33:06 (there is a huge disparity in my outdoor running speed and my comfort level on the treadmill)
Dec 4 - took a 6000 steps walk while on the clock

So yesterday was a diet nightmare. I felt like I was completely breaking down. I got off work early because we had a banquet last night, so I wanted to slip in a run. But I was sooooooo hungry, I knew I just couldn't exercise if I didn't eat something first. So I ate and ran and then ate again at the banquet. I ended up way over on calories for the day but I just felt insatiable. Poor food choices early in the day didn't help. I'm waiting to see, but if this becomes a problem I may have to up my calories and slow my weight loss down if I want to run. I just really wanted to lose the last 3lbs to be out of the overweight category before I slowed down. I've always found running to be difficult if I'm undereating at all. I don't know how some people do it. I need all the food to run even the tiniest bit5 -

This. I NEVER use the app for the forums. Lost too many long winded posts pressing the wrong button. Browser all the way. So much easier.4 -
Dilemma. Do I run or have a rest. Lol.
Problem with challenges, easy to go over the top.
I've run 3 days this week. Part of me wants to @AlphaHowls and keep going. Part of me thinks I should be sensible and take a rest. I WANT to do a few km.
Ive got to drop the kids at school, then have an eye exam. I'll dress for a run and see what the weather is doing. So far it seems really nice, and a run along the foreshore sounds wonderful. But it may be horrible and windy so I'll walk.
I love summer!5 -

Compromise - a short run or a slow one!3 -

A woman at my work has been streaking for over a year (forget how long she said), but on "rest" days she only runs 1 mile easy. So you could do something like that.

Off to a good start...failed the past two months but 3rd time/try is a charm! I hope...
If not, then maybe the forth. It took me a long time to get into the habit too. Make sure you set REALISTIC goals and targets for your body and lifestyle.
For me getting a subscription to Audible and only listening to audiobooks while I am running helps. If I want to know what happens next, I have to get out and run. So the book became the carrot that got me out the door. Over time the habit holds, but different people need different carrots to get there.
Find your carrot and use it.
Hhhhmmmm, thank you, I will probably take your advice!0 -
i'm considering streaking. like brushing my teeth. something that is done every day. so it becomes more of a habit. i'll stay with my plan but if i need more of a habit, an easy mile on my "rest days"2

@rheddmobile I wish I could go back and tell my younger self stuff too. But I guess that's all part of growing up. As for ice skating, good luck. I no longer do those types of things since I fell roller skating back in 1994 and fractured my elbow. It took 8 months before I could straighten my arm out again, so I gave up things where I am likely to fall.
@PastorVincent I hope you didn't hurt your foot too badly. It looks like you were having a good run.
I hit a huge deer (6 or 8 point buck) on my way to work this morning. It appeared out of nowhere and I was hitting it before I really registered what it was. It limped off, but I fear it was hurt pretty badly. My car remained driveable, so I drove on to work before reporting it to the authorities and my insurance company. The insurance was great. The adjuster called about an hour later and I took the car to a shop to get an estimate during my lunch break. (Almost $3200 damage!) Fortunately, I decided to get comprehensive coverage last Jan, so I won't have any out of pocket expenses and I can use my dad's car while the repairs are done. Hopefully, it will get repaired within the next couple of weeks. I'm blessed.
I'm sorry this happened. I hope the deer heals and I'm glad you are okay. I'm also glad the insurance company was on it, always nice to get quick resolve.1 -
Second time out with the new running club. Went with the 3 milers tonight. Really enjoyed it, and felt confident I could do more. The group stays reasonably together through shepherding/ doubling back as needed, I think I’ll do more of that once I get to know the routes more5
