  • That's only 3 lbs. a month! You can TOTALLY do it!!!
  • I LOVE this story! It's so wonderful to reward your hard work! You totally deserve it! I especially like the one picture of all your new clothes with the treadmill in the background-- it shows how hard you worked to earn those pretty new outfits!
  • I hear things about upping your calories or zig-zagging... like one day go over your calorie limit, then the next day go under... Unfortunately, the last 5 lbs. are the hardest to lose-- the smaller you are, the harder it can be to lose weight! However, the most practical advice I can give is to mix up your workout-- after…
  • I start every day with a big glass of water. I just chug one as soon as I get up, even before my coffee. Then, after my coffee I'll have another one to freshen my breath. Bam, two down before 9 a.m.
  • Maybe he's trying to impress you. Scare him away by saying, "Yeah, before the surgery and the hormones, I could do that, too..."
  • Yogurt is hard! I've started eating plain, nonfat yogurt from Dannon. Plain, nonfat yogurt tastes gross at first (I put honey in mine, sometimes granola too), but it's so much cleaner than other, "fun" yogurts. Just compare the ingredients-- the other flavored yogurts have so much weird stuff in them, but plain nonfat only…
  • Try getting more protein for muscle-building. More fuel for your muscles means running stronger. Chicken, fish, and lean red meat are great sources. Also try eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. You might be interested in a "clean eating," (google-search it), which basically means eating less processed foods.
  • You're not eating enough calories or getting enough nutrition. You're not giving your body enough energy to run. You can feel this with your tiredness and feeling like you have to run harder to go the same pace. Eat more or rest more.
  • If that's an actvity that's part of your usual routine, then I'm going to say no. If that's the kind of stuff you were doing when you gained weight, obviously it wasn't enough "exercise" to keep you in shape in the first place, and it's not going to get you back in shape. I'm not trying to be harsh, and I'm sure that's…
  • I go a little nuts with ranch dressing, so I feel your pain! I switched to fat free Italian dressing: 3 tablespoons = 23 calories. Also, watch out for veinger-and-oil type dressings, which seem healthier at first, but really aren't. The vinegar's fine, but the oil is what kills your diet. 1 tablespoon of olive oil is 120…
  • Go to RunnersWorld.com and check out the Shoe Dog. It helps you pick out shoes based on your body, running style, etc.
  • It spite of popular opinion, running doesn't have to be hell on knees-- both my husband and my father have knee problems, but have been running for years. Actually, running can help your knees because running is the most efficient way to lose weight, and the less weight your knees have to carry, the better they will feel.…
  • As a former Starbucks barista, I just have to tell people to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE avoid the flavors!!! Each pump of flavor (mocha, peppermint, vanilla, etc.) is something like 40 calories-- and there's 2 pumps in a tall, 3 in a grande, and 4 in a vente... A great way to save some calories is to ask for ONE LESS pump of…
  • I love this! Great work! JM rocks!
  • I admire your resolve and respect your decision to stick to your diet. However, I think there are better ways to stick to your diet without seeming rude or standoffish to your coworkers. I had a coworker who was on Weight Watchers and wouldn't participate in company events that involved food. Whenever someone was having…
  • Wow, I've never had that happen. If it has a chemicaly, nail-polish like smell, it might not be the bread? Maybe a piece of plastic or the wrapper was burning or something? That just seems really crazy. I always use just basic wheat bread for my grilled cheese sammies-- never had a problem there,
  • Great job! Your hips look way smaller.
  • Try replacing your bad habits with good ones-- whenever you feel like having a cigarette, try chewing gum, drinking a bottle of green tea or water or going for a short walk to clear your head. And while you're doing those things, think about how by NOT having a cigarette instead you're improving your life and making better…
  • that loved to
  • I use JM's "Shred It with Weights" and I log it as Calisthenics-- Vigorous Effort -- 25 minutes.
  • Bean burrito!!!
  • Make friends with the salad bar! Also go for sandwiches instead of greasy fried food or heavy pasta. My college dining hall also had cold cuts like sliced ham, turkey, and cheese available-- some a sandwich on whole wheat bread is another good alternative. I'm sure your cafeteria has a place with fresh fruit somewhere--…
  • edr2b, 500 calories is like another meal! Try a turkey sandwich on wheat bread with spinach and cheese?
  • Bumpity bump-- great ideas to try later!
  • Like any addiction, admitting you need help is the first step toward recovery. Now I think you need to look at yourself and find out what's causing your addiction. It might be helpful for you to keep a food journal-- MFP's food log is a great way to keep track of what and how much you are eating, but I think it might be…
  • Air-popped popcorn. Seriously invest in an air-popper! It's not even a huge investment-- maybe like $15... But it's SO worth it!
  • Another vote for Asics for road running! I've tried so many different shoes over the year, and I always come back to Asics. Right now I'm running in Asics Gel Cumulus shoes.
  • When I started running 10 years ago, I just set out to run distances. Like, "Today I'm going to do x (2, 3, 1, 2.5, whatever) miles." Then I just went out and ran. When I couldn't run anymore, I walked. When I felt better, I ran again. I kept going until I completed my goal distance (unless I got hurt or something). Then,…
  • There is some jumping, from a squat position, which could probably be cut out and replaced with just straight squats, and there is a little bit of running in place. But there is a lot of squats! I'm not aware of the extent of your injury, but a full range of motion is pretty much required for this workout (lots of…
  • Might nerve damage or a pinched nerve?? Definitely check with your doctor.
