  • That is totally the answer I wanted to hear :-) thanks!
  • As others have said, yes vegetarians generally eat eggs and dairy, while vegans eat only plant-based foods. I am a pescetarian, which means I eat vegetarian food and, in addition, fish and seafood (but not the flesh of other animals). This was an easier transition for me than going vegetarian, which I have tried several…
  • My goal is around 1500 but almost always eat back exercise calories (workout most days and wear a Fitbit everyday) so I usually end up closer to 1800. I have tried eating 1200 and I was SO HANGRY. Feel free to add me!
  • If you plug your stats (current weight, height, age, etc.) into MFP and set your goal to "maintain my current weight", it will give you a daily # of calories at which your weight would stay the same. If you eat fewer calories than that #, you will lose weight (if you are logging accurately). I am guessing that you could…
  • Also I made these vegan cauliflower buffalo wings over the weekend and oh my god were they good. Not the healthiest thing in the world, but worth it. http://www.hotforfoodblog.com/recipes/2014/2/11/cauliflower-buffalo-wings
  • I'm a pescetarian too, and I really like it. I grew up with vegetarian parents but always ate meat, until about a year ago when I went pescetarian. One of my favorite things right now is taco salad- for lunch or dinner. I fill a bowl or container with lettuce, and top it (or bring in a separate container for lunch) a…
  • If I take a sandwich for lunch sometimes I use a sandwich bun instead of two slices of bread because it tends to have fewer calories. But it depends on the brand. Bread with more fiber will keep you fuller longer, so in theory you may need to eat less if you buy a higher-fiber option. But bread will not prevent weight…
  • I'll add you! Other similar gals on this feed feel free to add me as well. I'm 25, 5ft6.5. SW 182ish, CW 173.6. As far as eating habits, I eat 1500 calories per day during the week, and closer to 1800 on weekends. I am a pescetarian (the only meat that I eat is fish), and I also eat eggs and dairy. I completed C25K a…
  • You don't have to eat them back, but you can if you want to. I've seen people say that you shouldn't eat back more than 50% because calorie burn from exercise is often overestimated. I try not to eat mine back, unless I'm really hungry or I worked out because I knew I would splurge on that day. Hope that helps!
  • Thai "drunken" noodles with tofu
  • I love snacking at night so I try to leave at least 300ish calories for a snack after dinner. I find it helps to choose a snack that you have to make, because time spent making it is time not eating- I like oven roasted kale chips, chickpeas, or edamame. After that I have some tricks to stop snacking: drink herbal tea,…

  • Shrimp! And also, as others have said, basically all fruit and veggies- except bananas.
  • Butternut squash chipotle chili- surprisingly easy, one of my all time favorites. You don't need the avocado or tortilla strips, it's delicious all by itself. http://cookieandkate.com/2012/butternut-squash-chipotle-chili-with-avocado/
  • From what I understand BMI is intended to be a measure for a large group of people- so to say whether a certain population is generally in a healthy weight category. It tends to place people who are very tall or have a lot of muscle in higher BMI categories. I really wouldn't worry about it, If you feel healthy that's what…
  • Congrats on getting started! Once you are ready to start training for your 5K, I would recommend the app C25K (Couch to 5K). It starts you off mostly walking with short spurts of running mixed in and builds up to running a 5k.
  • Here's a link to one of my favorite quinoa recipes- cilantro lime quinoa with shrimp. It's a one-bowl meal, super delicious. http://myhealthyohana.wordpress.com/2012/09/11/cilantro-lime-quinoa-with-shrimp/
  • 1/2 a toasted bagel with a laughing cow Swiss cheese wedge and 1 oz smoked salmon
  • I like to rinse mine really well, then toast in a pot with olive oil and a crushed garlic clove for a minute or two. I add chicken or vegetable stock to that, and after it's done I add Mrs. Dash salt-free table seasoning, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  • You're only 2 weeks in! It took me a full year to get to the point where I felt like I could run any significant distance (and I mean like 1 mile). I also thought that I was "not naturally a runner" or "wasn't built for it", but now I run 5k 3 times a week at least, and it's one of my favorite things to do! Stick with it.…
  • Me too, love Nike+
  • 8 oz of coffee contains less than 1 calorie...so actually I would think coffee is a very good option to drink when you are trying to lose weight. The added cream and sugar are what make people gain weight- I used to have up to 3 cups per day with creamer, and I was using way more than I thought. Now I have 1 cup with 2…
  • I like Nike+ running, you can do programs to improve your times etc., plus it updates you while running via your headphones about your average pace, so you can adjust accordingly. I also used C25K to start running :)
  • I like saltines (8-10) with 1 tbs of peanut butter spread among them, then made into sandwiches. 8 crackers makes 4 sandwiches with 186 cals (depending on brands you use). It gives a little protein kick to get me through the morning.
  • Speaking from personal experience, the sensation of thirst while running will go away. You really don't need to drink during your run unless you are running 5+ miles, but I know that at the beginning it feels like you are REALLY thirsty. I now run 3 miles 3-4 days a week and I don't need to drink during. If I run first…
  • I am really busy myself and training myself to run outside, and then waking up to run before work, is how I fit exercise in on days when I don't have time for the gym. I should preface this by saying that I always HATED running, and I have never been a morning person. But, after I trained myself to like running (using the…
  • If you don't mind artificial sweeteners, Target or any store brand has flavored sparkling waters that are calorie free (and sweetened, not like seltzer). I like the raspberry one with vodka. Maybe lime with tequila?
  • Running and elliptical mostly. I also like doing cardio circuits- running, stairs, elliptical, rower- 5-10 mins each for 30-40 mins. Keeps me from getting bored, and seems to work up a great sweat.
