Gotta ditch them. These high carbohydrate foods trigger over-eating. All calories are not the same. Bread, chips and other starchy foods cause blood sugar spikes that make you hungry sooner.

Congratulations on your weight loss. I ate, even overate, traditional thanksgiving dinner, candied yams, pie and all. However, letting fast food back in your life is a big mistake. You don't really know what's in it. If you want a big mac or whatever, make something like that at home. Big greasy cheeseburger on whole wheat…

My Health and Happiness is my responsibility. Like finances, I must manage my food budget with care. I can't imagine spending money and using credit cards without constant monitoring. It would be certain financial ruin. Healthy weight and optimal diet is far more important than money. MFP can be done in just a few minutes…

I used to be lchf but in Feb. moved to ZC. No artificial sweetener, no processed anything. I lost cravings completely in the first week. Now I have more energy, even moods and sleep better. So many things have improved in the last 130 days that I wish I had kept a journal.

Some people are more resistant to weight loss even on low carb diets, like me. I plateaued and had outrageous cravings for sweets. I went Zero Carb 123 days ago. Weight loss resumed. Sweet tooth vanished. Appetite decreased. Energy elevated. Depression lifted. I even require less sleep. If you are serious about health and…

I was low carb, struggling with cravings and binges. I have been zero carb for 124 days with no artificial or other sweeteners and all cravings and binges have disappeared!

This was a problem for me most of my life. Getting rid of all processed food, that is, anything with more than 1 ingredient will stop the cravings. My sweet tooth was uncontrollable. Now I eat nothing sweet, not even fruit. For me all sweets are a trigger for bingeing. This is probably not the answer you hoped for. I…

I am 53 and went from low carb to zero carb. The result is freedom from a lifelong sweet tooth and binge eating. Check out "eat meat, drink water". Very interesting. It is easier than trying to find substitute foods and using artificial sweeteners. For me it was the inevitable conclusion of a life time of searching for the…

I think how easily that could be me if I wasn't so conscious of how much I eat and exercise. I always tell people about mfp and get disgusted when they say why it would NEVER work for them!

Weigh and measure. Get measuring cups and measuring spoons. Get a food scale that is easy to use. Use these religiously. At first it seems like a hassle but it starts coming naturally pretty quick. Plus, and here's the biggie, it works! Keep us informed. We're all rooting for you!

crockpot is easiest but does not brown. stovetop is great because you brown the meat first in a large pot then add water and seasonings. vegetables the last half hour.

Throw them away. That's what I would do. One white flour and sugar "treat" would trigger a binge. The best advice I ever got is, "Stop putting garbage in your body!" I guess you can't if you have a non-supportive spouse.

Don't feel all alone. I guess if we were on survival mode we would be grateful for our super efficient bodies. Everyone has a different metabolism. I have to stay around 1200 calories for maintenance! Every Day! Of course you can get more calories from exercise.

Best ever fitness book for people our age! "Younger Next Year" by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge. The science is awesome and it is fun to read. My husband and I are reading it together. It will become an important part of your lifestyle if it isn't already. Tina

I smoked for many years and loved it, didn't want to quit. My mother died from copd and emphysema. I didn't want to go through what she did or have my children watch my slow painful death. Cold turkey is miserable but effective. If you slip, don't give up. Keep on quitting. There is nothing worse for you than smoking. It…

I'm happy for you! Whenever you need to tell someone about a goal or just share the joy of a healthy lifestyle, I'm in. You can friend me.

I know what you mean. I get "you look good for your age". Could do without the "for your age"

I'm at a good winter weight but need to get rid of 10 for summer clothes. Can I get in?

I came to this thread for help but it seems to come down to having a mini-binge and then making up the calories by exercise or cutting back later. Still hoping for the magic answer. The thing that works for me is to get back on track after every excess. You gotta live. Just don't give up.

I did Atkins religiously for 2 yrs. During that time I lost weight and felt great. I just got tired of the limitations. Got on mfp and cut calories eating a greater variety of foods. Lost weight while eating things I was missing on Atkins. Give it a try!

I agree. You only get one body. Got to keep it in the best shape you can.

People, even family, will try to undermine your weight loss goals. Cook healthy for everyone. Control your calorie intake by portion size. Have a free day with the fam on Sunday or whenever. You can look and feel the way you want to. Support is here. If you keep up on mfp, it will become a part of your life that you enjoy.…

Ice cream; once I start, the binge is on. Oh yeah, any alcohol...there goes the will power

Exact same: tingly fingers, sore upper back, shoulders. Just got back from my 2nd ride of the season. I usually get accustomed to it. It's worth it for the work out, so much more fun than weights!

People that aren't concerned about taking control of their own health will try to talk you out of caring for yours! That sounds crazy but it seems to be true. My usual response is the eye roll and "Oh, you're fine". This is the place for consistent support.

I love to bicycle and I look awful and feel uncomfortable riding when I'm overweight. If you're a woman and bike ride, you'll know what I mean. :p
-
Absolutely not! That's how people get fat. Excessive calories = excess weight. End of story

Of course you count every day! You would never stop checking your bank account even if you were independently wealthy!

I am 5'1" , 112 lbs. female, 52yrs. old. In order to maintain my weight I can't go over 1250 calories a day with a lightly active lifestyle. I may have a low metabolism, but that is maintenance, not deficit.
