  • I'm in your boat honestly, little time to do much. But I could suggest using steps in your house and running them a bit that way you can still be with the kiddos. My hubby is also a fireman and I wonder how in the world I can have weight issues when I'm doing all this work on my own most of the time! I was lugging all the…
  • I am not surprised. There are so many idiots in this world.
  • I started in Mechanical Engineering, but ended up in Civil. I'm a highway designer and have been since 1999, I'm very committed to what I do. But I have an interest in Geology and was headed back this fall to take Geology coursework but now I have too many highway projects to consider taking any classes. Of course it is…
  • When will my husband learn this method?!
  • How hilarious that this was the top post when I opened the motivation area. I have the SAME issue. I have been keeping my diary for nearly two complete cycles so I know it's just how I operate....knew it already but now I have the data to back it up. PMS and I am all 'screw this' (not extremely but pretty bad). Period is…
  • whatever the answer to your question is, probably explains why calorie cycling is effective I think.....sorry i'm so vague, but i know it happens and i just keep on keeping on.....i raise my calories a day or two and then get back down, that's when I start losing.....i think the cycling works but i haven't had a real and…

  • I think our bodies have to be sure we aren't in famine before they dub anything 'extra'.

  • I don't have the answer but am curious what it is. In theory per all the calculations you calculate the maitenance needs at your final weight. But I plan to slowly adjust to stop losing and see how it all goes. With MFP I know I'll have the ability to track it all and understand what works for and against me.
  • My husband is exactly my height. So I rarely wear heels, makes me feel anything but girlie.
  • I find that I can definitely have more variety because as long as I'm reasonable, and under my calories, I do well! I have lost 16 pounds since early April. I hit plateus and have to get serious, up the water, get moving, watch the sugars, etc.....but for the most part I think the counting calories is what is keeping me on…
  • welcome! I've been on here just over a month I guess and I think it's helped me get through my plateu. That's why I started too. I had done well on my own, lost ten pounds. But then I started making no progress. It lasted a while but eventually the changes made a real difference. I had started writing things down a few…
  • You look great! I can't even believe your weight is what it is, you must be rather tall. I understand keeping it to yourself, I think that's why I like MFP. I get to chat about what I'm doing but not really to the people that I'm around everyday.
  • I could make a very lengthy list after ten years. But I think the most annoying thing I do is call him too much. My job is so complicated and our lives are so complicated that if I think of something I need to tell him I have a habit of calling him before I even realize I'm doing it. So I might call him four times a day.…
  • check out greek yogurt, there are many and some are better choices so check the labels.....best choices are quite expensive but worth it...
  • good luck!
  • I have been wanting one of those chairs!!!!
  • my lunch today is a can of tuna with a little mustard and on the side I'll have green beans that were nuked in the microwave here at work, on a papertowel with a wet paper towel on top for 30 seconds then moved around on the towel before 20 seconds more to thaw them. they are like little green french fries to me. easy to…
  • you should be my buddy, you sound like me on certain days. but on most days I'm pretty positive. don't catch me around the time of the month though!!! lol I'll say what you'll hear a lot. don't weigh too often. concentrate on what you are eating and let your focus be on calories in and burned. give it time. it really will…
  • I'm with OTM. used to hate the height, now I love it. BUT I still don't wear heels much. My husband is EXACTLY my height. I wore ballet slippers on our wedding day so his shoes would help him be the taller one in the photos. He doesn't care but it makes me feel amazonish. I think being tall makes having noticable weight…
  • I am not familiar with the money conversion sorry, but I agree with the FT7 suggestion. You can have it display calories burned while you are working out if that is what you desire.
  • that rocks!
  • got a chair? if so, sit in it and left your knees up toward your chest several times..... put your arms in front of you like you were a genie and then stretch them out sideways and back in again and again do some squats and lunges do one-leg lifts in the chair do one-leg squats with the wall for support if you need it okay…
  • You'll get this thing figured out! I just got a Polar FT7 last night and went for a walk/run and was pretty amazed by the results. So I'm interested i how this turns out for you. Let us know when you have it figured out!
  • Hey there, I wanted to tell you that I got my new Polar heart rate monitor (the FT7) yesterday and tested it while walking AND running (the walking for a great deal of time prior to running because I walked to my jogging path). I was able to get my heart rate up ABOVE fat burning zone for me by briskly walking and had to…
  • You are welcome! And I'm like you, I want to get plenty of credible sources before I make some kind of alteration to my diet because we are talking about fueling our bodies! If I'm going to make these changes I want them to be well informed, worth the effort, and capable of making my life easier! Knowledge is powa!
  • Also here is the biggest reason I am aiming for understanding protein lately: A recent study at Maastricht University, Netherlands, showed greater larger thermogenesis and fat burning after consuming protein versus carbohydrate may be related to the glucagon response that is induced by protein, but not by carbohydrates;…
  • Yes you are right and the amount you say for protein is correct. Here is a very in depth explanation if you are interested: http://jillian.blogcashbiz.com/diet/how-protein-affects-thermogenesis-and-metabolism.html
  • congrats! check out swole fitness dot com, it has great info with some plans for men and women, based on desire - fat burn, or muscle building keep at it :drinker:
  • Well no I'm sorry I'm not experiencing this but I'm sorry to hear it. Friend me and we can support each other! My husband stays out of my way generally, but honestly he's that way by nature. I've had to learn to stay out of his way over the years and am doing this fitness stuff on my own. He doesn't really want to hear…
  • I am overweight because be it age, my sedentary job, whatever, I just can't eat like a kid and have whatever whenever and how much ever I want anymore. I want to lose weight so that I can be healthy and energetic and look the part too. I have been unable to do this before because I just tried to eat less, or just tried to…
