  • Interesting, but they key words for someone reading this are "hypothesis" and also "in vivo and in vitro." I don't have access to PubMed outside of work, so I can't read the methods section as I'm not going to pay for it, but I would be interested to see which "vivo" this is being studied in. As much as we love lab rats,…
  • Hi everyone! Nice to meet all of you. I'm a 33 year old living in Massachusetts and in the middle of moving to Providence, RI because my husband is graduating from medical school this weekend (yaaaay!!) and will be doing residency at Brown. We've been totally nuts lately buying, refinancing, and renting homes as well as…
  • You probably told it you want to lose 1 1/2 or 2lbs/week...it's trying to get you there and doesn't cut off at 1200 like MFP does. As you move/exercise throughout the day it will adjust your calories upwards...I worked a 12 hour shift today and fitbit added in 563 calories! Add that to your number and you have a reasonable…

  • 5' 8" here too and my ultra goal is about 140. Although...when I weighed 150 I was in really good shape (I was wearing a size 6), so I'd take that too!
  • Yes...they got $13000 out of my husband's grandmother that way. She's a smart lady too...so infuriating. Not only was it a horrible thing to lose the money, but there was a lot of emotional torment for her thinking that my husband is in trouble. If I could just meet those *kitten* in a dark alley...
  • <---- Yellow lab here! Just under three years old (and so still a yellow tornado). We rescued her. Best. Decision. Ever!!
  • Gonna try this too...thanks for posting!! Need a jump start again.
  • Agree ^^. But seriously, kudos to you for acknowledging this and posting to the community. Such a huge first step to take. And remember, you don't have to be underweight to have an eating disorder...any altered relation to food can be considered one, especially when it starts to control multiple aspects of your life. Speak…
  • Not cheap!! $69 apiece, but they have features that make them more durable (they don't have the annoying velcro for the shoulder straps that always gets worn/useless on some bras...that drives me nuts!), and the two I have are holding up nicely so far! Definitely measure yourself accurately too and use their size chart.
  • D Max Sports Bra by Shock Absorber works great for me (and I've always had a major issue with finding good sports bras)...a little tricky to get on due to the double clasp, but holds everything right in place so worth it. I got my two through Athleta.com
  • Agree...it's totally insane. I found that as I kept going I started to get addicted to it...if you get through week 1 you'll find you're improving dramatically, and that motivation keeps you pushing play! Month 2 takes even more grit...but that's when you really start seeing results so that kept me going. Plus the calorie…
  • TUESDAY QOTD: Do you set mini-goals, with rewards? What are they, why did you pick those goals (and the fun part, the rewards!!!) I did have some for a while but I found I was too obsessed with the numbers. Kinda may need to get back to that though...although I'm currently traveling for TWO WEEKS and so there's no way I'm…
  • FRIDAY QOTD- We all know that dieting and becoming more healthy is one of mankind's greatest forms of self improvement. What types of self improvement things do you do or would like to do that are completely unrelated to diet/health? Hey guys...sorry this is late. Spent yesterday in airports!! I think there are so many…
  • So, when you see a gain on the scale (or even just have a really bad day) how do you get back on track and not let it take you into a downward spiral? A couple of things...first, I've gotten REALLY good at rationalizing things as water weight. Even if that's not true I find I'm much less likely to get frustrated and give…
  • Tuesday QOTD: It's November already, which begins a challenging time of year for many of us whether it is holidays or the need for comfort food in the midst of cold weather and lack of good produce. What challenges are you facing with this time of year in relation to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and/or weight loss? What…
  • www.marksdailyapple.com is a great site! you can get lost there for hours...
  • Oh man...yuck! I agree wholeheartedly with your rebellion!!
  • In Regards to a healthier lifestyle (diet and fitness) What is something new that you have tried since you started your journey that worked for you (i.e. planning meals, a new type of exercise, a reward system)? AND what is something new that you would LIKE to try moving forward that you maybe have not had the time or…
  • ^^agree 100%. Anything that seems too good to be true is likely just another way to take money from your pocket and put it in someone else's. Anything like that also probably has some chemicals your body doesn't need.

  • I'd say it's always good to check your blood sugar at least once a day to make sure you're not running way higher (or lower...but this usually isn't a problem with metformin) than it should be. Twice a day is likely ideal. That way you could get in contact with your doc and he/she will be able to intervene well before…
  • ^^^^ These!!! They're amazingly good and taste surprisingly like potato chips! You just take a bunch of Kale, cut to desired size, spray lightly with olive oil, and put in a 300 degree oven until crispy. I think I did mine for about 20-25 minutes or so (you can stir/check occasionally...they'll also turn darker green, but…
  • Back when I had a nutritionist, she said to count 1/2 cooked as a serving of carb. (but then again, this was through South Beach where carbs are cut back a bit)
  • Go with how you feel...but you may find that if you do heavy cardio while eating low carb you'll poop out once your body uses up its glycogen stores...then you'll end up with some serious carb cravings once your workout is done. Some ways around that can be a) eat something with higher carb content, like a banana or b)…
  • Friday QOTD: This is more to help me but what is everyones favorite low cal meal/snacks? Soup (homemade...not canned) is one of my favorite low cal meals/snacks. You control everything that goes into it, and when you load it up with veggies it also becomes incredibly healthy. It's nice and filling. I'll put it in as a…
  • Great game indeed! Excited about tonight!
  • Crazy game! Can't wait for tomorrow!! I'm a neutral fan (aka a despondent Sox fan), but have to agree that the Rangers threw this one away. Now it's anyone's series....
  • Pretty much anything processed has sneaky amounts of carbs in it...also watch out for beans and certain fruits (berries are usually a good bet if you want to keep carbs on the lower end), especially tropical fruits. Here's another yummy-looking spaghetti substitute that I've been dying to try....…
  • Yep I have one...love it! It's actually replaced my old watch now hehe! Sometimes it's hard to get a reading if you're really sweaty, which can be a little annoying, but in general it works pretty well and it really helps me log my calories burned for exercises that are not in the database.
