Generally a half cup dry is a serving- check the label to make sure :)

I weigh out the grams. 40 grams is one serving. Water has no calories so assumining you are making it with the water it is only the calories associated with the 40 grams of oatmeal.

1/2 cup dry is one serving. After it cooks it generally doubles in size, but its still the same amount of oats, so it's still one serving.

You measure the serving dry and then eat all of what's cooked. A serving is usually a 1/2 cup dry.

Back when I had a nutritionist, she said to count 1/2 cooked as a serving of carb.

(but then again, this was through South Beach where carbs are cut back a bit)

I always count 1/2 cup dry - the rest is just water
