  • My diary is open and I am a vegan (I like to go with plant-based instead of vegan though). Feel free to add me and see what I eat! I try to log every day, but sometimes I forget (eeps). I am within a few pounds of my goal weight (probably about 5-10) but I've already lost close to 20. MFP was great for helping me to drop…
  • Thanks for the advice. Carson, what do you think is a better running schedule for your first half? I want to keep lifting, at least a little, but I can do that for 30 minutes 2-3 times a week in the morning. It's definitely not as tough on my body as running is. And it's the Philly half Nov. 18th for those that asked.…
  • Woot! All three, but I work hard at that, so it better be that way :)
  • Eating clean really comes into play when you're trying to tone. I didn't eat very clean in the beginning and lost close to 20lbs. After that, when I got to the point of just really needing to tone, I couldn't do anything. Once I switched to clean eating I saw a HUGE difference.. that and now I feel a whole lot better. Make…
  • Brooks = love. I've ran everywhere from 3 - 10 miles at a time in them and have loved them on each run. However, I would 100% recommend going to a store that specializes in running shoes. They might be a bit more pricey, but someone will accurately fit your feet, watch you run, and give you the best pair of shoes that will…
  • PHILLIES! Love them. Always. I even did my trick-or-treating at Curt Schilling's house when I was little :)
  • I'm in! 80 Miles in May. Yikes, this is a big commitment for someone who really enjoys weight lifting and has 10 days of vacation planned this month... can hiking count as some miles (I have tons of that planned on skyline drive/blue ridge parkway!)
  • Favorite thing in the whole world for breakfast? Here it is: 1/4 cup frozen blueberries 1/4 cup frozen strawberries 1/4 cup frozen peaches 1/2 cup 100% pom. juice (I use pom wonderful) 1/4 cup soy milk (but you can use real milk if you perfer) 1 TBLS of flaxseed (added healthy omega 3s!) blend it up! and eat it or perhaps…
  • Awesome, thank you. I might lower to 1600 instead of 1700 just because I have trouble reaching these amounts :) But glad to hear it's working for you! And maybe you're not losing any weight because you're gaining it in muscle!
  • I've been trying hard to lift weights -- I started with the Strong Lifts 5x5 program. I've enjoyed it, it's been easy to get into, but I'm weak. The most I can lift at this point is 35lbs, but I just started. I guess I should just keep it up? I started eating more calories this week because MFP had me eating 1240 net,…
  • I make home made hummus that's good for 4 servings -- try bringing a serving of that and some carrot sticks as a side snack. I always include a really large salad in my lunch as well. Some other ideas are wraps, obviously, leftover soup from the dinner the night before, a veggie type burrito, or even a sandwich made with…
  • home made hummus and carrot sticks. DELICIOUS
  • I'm totally with you. I calculated my BMR to be 1374.14, but MFP puts me down at 1240. I guess this is all wrong. I typically exercise 3-5 days a week, more like 5, so I usually burn at least 300-400 calories in a work out session. I really think I'm not eating enough either. I think I'm going to at least change MFP to…
  • And yes, I agree with this. On average you only need 60 grams of protein a day. If you're building muscle I wouldn't go higher than 90. Just watch out. High levels of protein intake can cause significant damage to your kidneys in the long run. Good luck! :)
  • Eat two large salads every day. Not only do green vegetables have the highest amount of protein per calorie of any food, but they are also the healthiest thing our body can consume :). Kale/Spinach/Arugula/Collards/Watercress, etc. Also, tofu has a lot of great protein.
  • I'm in! I really want to do this, but feel like I'm going to look stupid in the free weight room. I wish I had an in-person friend to do this with. No one lives in my town but rambunctious college students
  • I've seen a ridiculous amount of shows.. (and I'm only 25:laugh:) Here's my list -- and they've all been awesome, but I've starred the best. Blink 182 Sum 41 Lit Bush Nickleback Puddle of Mudd Something Corporate x2 Yellowcard x2 Black Eyed Peas Justin Timberlake ***Christina Aguilera OAR x2 Jack's Mannequin x2 Panic at…
  • Yes, true, but they have so many healthy benefits to them -- the amount of omega 3s -- that they should be picked first. High nutrient foods > low nutrient foods.
  • I'll friend you too! I need some more friends. I just keep getting yelled at on message boards and it makes me sad :(
  • I didn't mean to insult anyone. I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, I just like to aim for a plant-based diet, but indulge in chicken wings and our local diner's mac and cheese every once in a while. My argument, and I apologize if it came off differently, was that a lot of meat and dairy isn't very good for you. It's caloric…
  • Lol, most people are entirely wrong about animal products. If moderation is less than 12 ounces a week, then yes, it's okay. Meat and Dairy, even at small amounts, have been linked to an increase in cancer risk. 2.5 servings of dairy alone can increase a man's chance of prostate cancer by 30%. And let's not even mention…
  • It's the chicken that's causing the problem. Just go with the salad -- spinach, veggies, etc. no cheese, no meat, no dressing. That's the healthiest option. Plus, all of those aforementioned items are bad for you.
  • Here's the issue with diet sodas, artificial sweeteners, etc. -- yes, it is linked to weight gain and yes it is highly linked to diabetes. People always assume that diet soda causes diabetes because it has a lot of sugar in it, but obviously it has no sugar, and that's a huge issue. When you drink diet soda or use…
  • Y'all are going to totally accomplish all of these things! Keep working at it! This post served as some motivation for me, so I hope it did the same for you! Feel free to add me too, I can always use a little more support/motivation! :)
  • Thanks!!! this was great! :)

  • What's annoying to me is that I want to eat a certain caloric amount, get close to that, and then exercise. Once I put my exercise in the log it then adds that amount to the calories I have remaining. If you want to lose weight you should be eating less AND exercising. Is there anyway to fix that?

  • I'm sad I just saw this now! I will join, but I'm going to modify it to 75 miles for September! This is a great idea, thanks!
  • I started a day after you all because I was out of town, but I am in! Unfortunately I didn't get to do a measurement (I guess I could do it 3 days late?) but I still need to go get a tape to do the measurements. For the first week I am just going to be doing the 30 day shred, but after that, has anyone found it nice to run…
  • Thanks! It has been tough. I eat generally well to begin with, so I guess I just need some more exercise. Living in a college town while working a full time job has it's problems -- easy access to alcohol and bad food, plus a bf who is a grad student and doesn't cook :P. At least I'm part of a CSA!
