Former Division III baseball player here. The structure of practice helped me get and stay in great shape. Now that it is gone, it's definitely harder to stay in shape. Let's do this!

I started Day 1 yesterday, and while I know it's early, I'm already feeling pretty good! I understand that this can probably be a "placebo" effect that comes with starting a new healthy lifestyle, but I'll ride the wave while I can. Hopefully it continues!

As a physio (physical therapist for Americans :)), I'd first recommend keeping up with or starting cardiovascular exercise such as jogging, walking, or elliptical. You could also use a theraband or resistance band to maintain or improve should strength. These are usually light resistance and shouldn't be used if they…

I also find it difficult to make it to the gym or work out on a daily basis. I find it easiest that when I get home from work, I do not do anything except put my gym clothes on and turn around and leave. If I sit down for a minute, I can kiss the workout goodbye. I think my wife would tell you the exact same thing. She…

While pushups are a great exercise, over-doing it could mean problems in the future. If you don't maintain a muscle balance between your chest and back, you're setting yourself up for problems with your neck, middle back, shoulders, and even potentially low back. I'm not sure doing 100 pushups at one time is necessary, but…

I've read a lot that diet is much more important when you're concerned about the number on the scale. While exercise is very important for your health, you can't expect to lose large sums of weight solely due to exercise. You might look at your diet and see what types of food you are taking in. Make sure you are giving…

Solely from what I learned from reading "Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It," if you're going to eat "clean" you should eat fruit with low sugar content (any type of berries). Gary Taubes argues in the book that the sugar in an apple is the same as that in a Twinkie. Much of the book focuses on how one should work to…

100% true. I'm finding that a lot of these supposed "informational" posts on here are just one person's biased opinion. Such as the original post in this thread. Show me some strong evidence like a randomized controlled trial or a systematic review or the like and then maybe I'll shift my thinking. Until then, I'm going to…

Also an excellent suggestion.

As a physical therapist, I'd suggest the machings (sitting knee extension, standing knee flexion) to target your quads and hamstrings. This will help strengthen your upper leg. When doing these exercises, perform them within a PAIN-FREE range of motion. This means that if you feel your knee hurting, you went to far. Also,…

I notice a drastic difference when I'm drinking all water as opposed to other caloric drinks (soda, etc). I feel much better, I'm not as hungry, and have more energy.

I'd say go for whatever makes you happy. You spend at least half of your day at work and it has a huge influence on the rest of your day as well as the weekends. If you're unhappy, then you should consider looking somewhere else. After all, the most imporant thing is to look out for number one (yourself). That said, if I…

And if you want to see old school Vegas, head down to Fremont St.(downtown Vegas) (probably 20 buck cab ride from the strip). It's a cool atmosphere, but you have to know what you're getting into. It's not hoity toity like the strip, it's old school and a nice place for people watching.
-
If you get a chance to see a show, I'd recommend it. Especially at one of the bigger hotels on the strip. Take a camera and be ready to walk. You'll get plenty of steps. If you're not worried about your diet, which you shouldn't be because you're in Vegas, check out the buffet (The Wicked Spoon) in the Cosmopolitan. It is…

I'd say nothing. It's tough to think of any situation in which that would go over well! I've felt this way before about some people. It's tough to watch and see.

This is what I've heard in some nutrition classes that I've taken. Thanks! And thanks to everyone else who answered!
