  • This is great advice! Start with fixing one aspect or it will all seem too overwhelming! Good luck!
  • I struggle with it sometimes. I always try to be aware that if I eat poorly, I will only feel worse and undo all my hard work. It also helps if your kitchen is stocked with healthy options. For example, my snacking options are only fruit and nuts or hummus w/ whole grain crackers. Getting motivated to exercise when you're…

  • 50 minutes of brisk walking. Worked up a good sweat!
  • Your story made me laugh-- loved your come back! You also proved again that you never know where people come from or at what stage in life they are so don't judge! Power to you!
  • Having been a grad student recently myself, I understand that fresh produce is not always within budget. But frozen produce is reasonably priced and is on sale at grocery stores fairly regularly. I came across this link with general guidelines for healthier and more filling eating, basically summing up what many people…
  • 55 min brisk walk, crunches, and light weights (arms).
  • That's an amazing 55 lbs lost. You look great!
  • You got smaller and your smile got bigger
  • First thing is DON'T get discouraged. Second, ideally, you want to hit your calorie goal as close as possible so that your body does not enter starvation mode, which prevents weight loss. Third, take a look at the types of foods you're eating. I don't know your diet but I can advise you that it's best to have lots of…

  • I would suggest looking at your protein, fiber, and water intake as well. Eating a lot of fruit and vegetables / fiber will help boost your metabolism, as will drinking cold water. Good luck!
  • Fantastic job, Robin! My goal is also 135 -- 16 to go -- and have started running and eating healthier. Can't wait to get there. Thanks for the inspiration!
  • I came across this post that discusses how cutting carbs and increasing protein helps with more rapid weight loss that might be useful to you. I know it got me thinking! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/656601-i-found-an-easier-way-to-lose-weight
  • I don't think it's unusual to not lose weight in a week. Bear in mind that if you're exercising hard, you are also gaining muscle. For some people, muscle building happens first (I don't know the physiology, however). Having more muscle will in turn help burn fat. So don't get discouraged and just give it a little more…
  • You look great!! And younger and happier! Keep it up!
  • Good luck! This website provides great support to keep you going!
  • Thank you all for your encouraging words! I hope to keep up the logging, get started on exercise, and adopt a healthier view. I look forward to doing it together with some of you
  • Thanks, Shorerider. I knew it would take me some time but not this long. Guess I need to be patient and persistent.

  • You're right. I could try increasing the number of days I do weights. Thanks!

  • I eat about 1200 - 1300 calories per day and burn an average of 300 calories when I exercise. Unfortunately, I have time constraints that don't allow me to dedicate too much more time to exercise. I only found out about eating exercise calories when I joined MFP so we'll see if that helps!

  • I'm new to MFP but I've been trying to lose weight since mid-May and have only succeeded in losing 5 pounds. I changed my eating significantly and my meals now include lots of salads, vegetables, fruit and less fat and simple carbs. I do eat dessert, though not frequently and in small serving sizes. I have also been…

  • One pound could be water weight. In fact, nutritionists and doctors say to give yourself +/- 1lb on your weight. It sounds like you've had some complications that affected your schedule. I think the best thing to do is accept that but don't let it drag you down. For me, the best solution has been to just get back on the…
  • Congratulations to you! I've lost 5lbs since I started my regimen (before I discovered this website) and people have noticed. I think it shows in my face and the fact that I can fit into some of my clothes again. Looking forward to remarks after a 20lb loss! Though I try not to focus on other people's comments, it does…
  • Don't beat yourself up over it. We all slip up and as the old saying goes, there's no use crying over spilt milk. Now you need to tell yourself that you're done indulging and get back on track!
