The first place everyone should stop when someone posts something nonsensical. PS: Chef Mike (bonus points if you get the reference) is part of my kitchen. I'm not about to give up on it over some overwrought, made up, inflammatory trolling.

It's never too late to start over. I started off at 275 about two years ago. I dropped to 203 and decided to take a "little break" for Christmas. The next thing I knew it was a year later and I'd gained 40 pounds. That's when I found MFP. I've taken that 40 pounds off, plus a bit more. You can do it.

Have you ever tried to use vegetable instead of veggie when ordering food? People look at you like you have three heads.
-
I wipe peaches and kiwis with a wet paper towel to get some of the fuzz off, but usually eat the skins.

No, I ordered them online, no prescription needed. btw: to avoid any possible confusion, by lancets, I don't mean anything with insulin, but the small needles that go into the lancing device.

What I want to know is why people seem to think that doing cardio indoors is somehow "wrong"? This judgmental attitude appears in these forums repeatedly, and I don't understand it at all.

I picked the middle of the healthy BMI chart for my height. Where I finally land is still an open question, but it'll be somewhere in there I'm sure.

The need to drink 8 glasses of water a day is a complete myth. Most of the water you need comes from the food you eat. It won't hurt you to drink some extra fluids unless you go way overboard, but there's absolutely no requirement. Edit to add: I've lost 80+ pounds total without purposely drinking any extra water.

A couple slices of that cake someone posted about a few days ago.

I think it's a difference in the units. The US uses mg/dl while the rest of the world uses mmol/L. From what I've read 100 mg/dl converts to about 5.6 mmol/L.

I got my test strips this morning, and decided it would be good to check the new inexpensive ReliOn meter against the OneTouch Ultra I've been using for years. This was three hours after eating, and a run to the grocery store, so it was pretty typical of my early afternoons. I did all the readings within a couple minutes…

Don't feel too bad. I was older and fatter when I started -- 50 and 275 at 5' 10, that was 2 years ago. I had a 1 year relapse in between. Now 52 and 192 (give or take). It's doable, but it's never as quick or as easy as we want it to be. Good luck!

They're cliche, but it's just about impossible to come up with anything original, so I'm fine with that sort of thing.

"It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle."

It's okay as a PB replacement, but it's really good for flavoring other things.

I drink diet ice tea every day. That and coffee are all I drink. It hasn't hurt my weight loss, and my A1C is 4.7. If it's doing me any harm I can't see it.

Congratulations!

If you insist on needlessly counting water, then yes, everything that's mainly water counts as water.
-
I'd suggest forgetting the TDEE stuff and just going by what MFP says.

Hard, but not impossible.

I use soy for drinking because of the higher protein, and unsweetened almond milk for cooking because of the more neutral taste. I avoid coconut milk because of the higher fat content.

Such a rapid weight loss, if it actually happens, probably comes from depleting the stored sugar in your liver, and dumping the water it's bound up with. Once you go back to a more normal way of eating, the liver will restore the sugar, and water, and you'll see that weight come back. I'm not a doctor or nutritionist, but…

The last time I mentioned this I got charged with posting "broscience." I tried to explain that no, it was just science, but I saw the same person snidely repeating the charge in another post. You just can't help some people.

My condolences on your impending death.

I only eat back half my exercise calories too, and that seems to work for me. I figure all the numbers are estimates anyway, so it's better to err on the low side.
-
If you eat too much "clean" (whatever your definition of clean is) food you won't lose weight. Instead of consulting a bunch of websites with conflicting numbers, how about giving MFP's recommendations a try for a month or two and seeing how that works for you? There's nothing that says you can't eat whole, natural foods…

Yeah, I figured that out when I looked at the bottle again this morning. It was a real headslapping moment. I would have edited that part out but it wouldn't let me.

I'll take tired, frustrated, and thin over fat, diabetic, and dead.

Maybe if I know I'm going to eat a heavy dinner I'll eat a light lunch, but not much beyond that. If you know this event is going to be a rare thing then enjoy yourself, try not to eat to bursting, and get back to your regular diet and exercise the next day.
