Hi! I'm 17 weeks with my third child. I was overweight when I got pregnant, so I'm trying not to gain too much. My OB approved tracking, but obviously set my calories higher. I'm also following the carb limits for gestational diabetes. So far, so good! I'm exercising 2-3 times a week, but I'm so tired and I work full-time…

I don't think of eating and counting 1800 calories a day as restricting, do you all? If I don't track I'll overdo it, as I have time and again. Maybe we need a different term for setting a reasonable calorie goal. I've found this thread really helpful. Thanks everyone!

I'm here, too! I'm 12 weeks pregnant with my third child (fourth pregnancy). I've yo-yo'd in a 30 lb window throughout my adult life. I got pregnant about 20 lbs heavier than I'd have liked to have been, but I also ran the 8 mile leg of a marathon relay on the day of implantation, so I've been in pretty good shape. I do…

There's some significant recent research that watching calories is helpful for overweight and obese women in pregnancy. According to my OB, obese moms only need to gain 10-15 pounds, and overweight moms only need to gain 15-25. All of the providers at my practice have been excited to hear that I'm watching my calories. I'm…

I hear a lot of people comment about how much they hate counting calories or that they don't want to do it forever, but I find it the easiest and most liberating tool for losing weight. It's reliable and really not that hard. It allows for cheat days or whatever but also provides the structure I need because I can binge…

I lost weight on zoloft because I was self-medicating with food to treat my depression/anxiety. Once all of that "evened out," I felt like I could make better choices. I still feel genuinely hungry and eat plenty, but I've managed to keep the weight off for about a year.

There's plenty of calorie-dense vegan food. In fact, I think I'd gain if I was a vegan because of nuts & nut butters.

I think I've commented here earlier, but I'm back. I've lost weight: Height: 5'7.5" Weight: 164 BFP: ~ 24% (Haven't measured in a while) I'm an "inverted triangle" shape... wide shoulders, narrow hips, thick waist but not like an apple shape really at all. I currently shop for US size 10s but just tried on some 10s that…

Thanks for the help. I had little pain on race day, and I noticed if I changed my gait a bit it helped. I rested more leading up to the event than I normally would have, and I think that was the right move. I still ran fast (for me). It was a lot of fun. I think part of the issue may be my work shoes. I am on my feet a lot…

This is a journey. If Special K is a better choice than you have been making and it makes it easier for you to limit your calories, then I think its fine. One day, if you get more strict about eating clean, then you can work on eliminating it or finding a substitution. But, if your old snack was Krispy Kremes and now…

Hugs. Be kind to yourself. <3

I have less knowledge than anyone on this topic, but I run, lift heavy, and do body pump classes. I run because I love it and do the others because I should. I am at my lowest weight and BFP in my adult life and I still need to lose about 20 lbs (IMO). That being said... Did you like the class? Do what works for you. We…

Have y'all ever heard of Kibbe types? This guy wrote this book in the 80s about different body types and I find it so interesting. It sounds like there's some body curiosity here and I thought you all may appreciate it. The book is called Metamorphosis by David Kibbe, but its out of print. However, there are active online…

5'8" 172.5 lbs BFP: 27% and decreasing! :) Mostly size 10 pants, a few 8s M tops, sometimes I need a L I kind of have a swimmer's body: broad shoulders, narrower hips, but still fleshy arms and legs - still nothing like an apple shape.

I found some treadmill interval workouts on pinterest recently. I just searched for "treadmill HIIT" or "treadmill tabata." ...and while it may be mathematically more efficient to run at your highest sustainable HR, I find it easier psychologically to kill it for 20 seconds then rest (or whatever the interval requires). My…

I like ultra-pasteurized filtered (?) whole milk in mine... I use Fairlife. It has a lot of protein and its rich enough to sub for half and half.

I "bank" exercise calories for long runs, and I'll bet you could adapt this system to create a weekly allowance. I'd burn like, say, 1500 calories for a 12 mile run. I usually wasn't terribly hungry that day (I ran in the afternoon), so I'd eat my regular calories for that day, but I'd make a "deposit" into my bank by…

Yes! I have a gym membership.

I'm not far off from that. I am a little under 5'8" and wore mostly 14s at 215... could probably squeeze into some 12s still... (needed 16s sometimes but didn't buy them lol). I'm currently comfortably in a 10 (couple of 8s... same story) at 177-ish. How is your body proportioned? I am an inverted triangle (but not an…

I exercise because its good for my mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

I'm in!

Correct. Ten miles. I'm two and a half weeks out from a half marathon.

Oh yeah... this, too. A pound a week is just right for sustaining over the long-term. Real life isn't the Biggest Loser Ranch.

Girl, you really need to know how much you weigh. I know its painful, but its necessary. Don't let that number have power over you! You alone are responsible for your food and exercise choices. You can do this. ...and I agree that weighing your food is necessary. It's so helpful in re-adjusting our mindset.

Walmart's Danskin line is decent and has many size optoins... and I second (third? fourth?) Old Navy.

Surely you will, it just may be a slightly slower rate of loss than with 1340. I personally choose to eat more and lose slower because I'm hoping it will be easier to maintain in the long run. I am 5'8", 178 lbs, and have lost almost 40 lbs by eating 1650-ish calories a day. I am pretty active, though.

I'm glad you asked this question. We're still not sure when/if we're having a third child, but I've been worried about this as well.

I don't see how its any different than a protein powder. I say it counts and its not cheating.

That's fine, but the way I've been using it has been working for me through the last five months and 40 lbs. I'm primarily looking for help understanding what has changed about the method that has been consistently reliable for me.
