Muscle weighs more than fat due to the density so if you've just started a new exercise program it could be that you've got rid of fat and replaced with muscle which would not show a weight loss as the program continues you will lose fat and the muscle will build which will then help burn more calories as muscle does this

from what i've read try to inhale over 2 strides and exhale over 2 strides. try using both the nose and the mouth to breathe in. It does take a while for the breathing to regulate and I had problems when I first started out. try opening up the chest so the lungs can get as much in as possible - it will come in time!

I just decided to go for the great north run and worry about it after! i think if you want to do it then you should go for it there are plenty off training schedules and advice out there! I'm just stuck at about the 6 mile mark - think it might be more mental than anything else!

thanks! ive been running for about 2 months and can do around 6 miles just tyring to push past that but i'm finding it quite hard! i might practise the john redi road just so i know how long it will be and how hilly it will feel! i'm hopeing for a time of about 2:10! i'm quite excited to do it but nervous at the same time!

Agree - could be down to muscle gain! When you start doing lots of exercise you're body holds on to more water and nutrients as it's not used to it and needs to repair the muscles. Keep at it - i'm sure it'll catch up!
