  • Asparagus. I could eat it every day all day! But that’s not a bad thing!
  • Thank you! I’m 5’6 and today I’m 140 pounds. I said today because I still weigh in weekly- a habit I just can’t break because I think it is what has helped me maintain (March 15 I will celebrate 1 1/2 years of maintenance since reaching my goal of 149). I tend to fluctuate 137-142. Originally I thought I needed to be 125…
  • Thank you everyone! And a big thanks to the person that recently read this post so that it became part of the newsfeed again- it helped me reflect as my journey was almost surreal. I can also validate that I still stick to what is listed here it truly is a lifestyle change and I’m here to tell everyone that once that shift…
  • Once a week- same day of the week and time of day. Same conditions (i.e. For me right before I step in shower) Daily weighing didn't work for me because our body naturally fluctuates. I would feel discouraged when I did daily when I saw an increase. I like the comparison of week to week.
  • I agree with everything here- everything is indeed loggable but you will have to find foods that compare for certain events. I always over estimate so that I don't give myself more calories left than I should.
  • Wow- the different viewpoints really give a lot to think about! And yes, I am absolutely a casual runner. I am actually more of a walker- yep I'm the person you want to move out the way when you are racing lol. I started walking a year ago, running in March with finally completing a 5K in August. (As one poster stated with…
  • This all such great advice! What it is helping me learn the most that I need to approach this as I did weight loss by finding what works for me. Eventually I do hope to pick up some speed but I think I'll focus on completing a few more 5Ks and then try each suggestion for at least 8 weeks (intervals and then trying to…
  • Thanks everyone this is good advice. The thought of a 10K gives me chills because it seems soooo far but I am going to try it! I appreciate the advice!
  • Thank you everyone! Such great advice and wisdom on these boards!! I'm proud to say that this pay Saturday I did a 5K and ran (well okay jogged lol) the entire thing! I was so tempted to try and keep up with others but kept reminding myself complete not compete as that will come later! My time was slow as a turtle at 41…
  • That doesn't sound silly at all and makes sense! I run a predictable route when I train alone so I bet that helps a lot thank you!
  • I eat half. I have lost 100 pounds in 15 months doing that. I feel like the exercise calories may not be accurate so eating half imo is the best way to go.
  • I have to admit I am intrigued with starting the 10K app....I appreciate all of your advice very much! I think I may be picking people who clearly have a pace I am not ready for lol. so I will try to take time as you described to select the right one! Thank you so much!
  • After reading your reply I realized I need to correct my original post-which I made late at night lol. I do 3.1 in usually 40 minutes the 35-45 is my dream range lol which is discouraging to me because a person can walk briskly and get that same time. BUT that being said I also need to remind myself of completing not…
  • Thanks for the reply! And I love the story about your friend! I am slow as a turtle my average is 40mins for 3.1 miles when running alone so I always tell people slow and steady! I also do think I need a new advice if I am serious about running. I have Fitbit Alta but it does not keep pace. For now I will try the app a…
  • The thought of a 10K seems like such a large lofty goal when I can't complete a 5K in real time-but on the other hand I do get what you are saying! I appreciate you putting that out there! I have exhausted the Couch25Kapp so it makes perfect sense to start the 10K one! Thank you!
  • Thank you! That is great advice! I haven't tried that App yet so I will look into it! I have a 5K this Saturday so I will start using the app tomorrow!
  • Kind of. During the entire journey I always did little things. Halfway there I cut and colored my hair. Of course new clothes because it was needed. I did also get contacts and bought a little make up (I used to wear none). So I guess you could say I did an evolving makeover and it continues to evolve lol.
  • Hi! My name is Monica and I'm from Columbus Ohio! I completed C25K about a month ago doing a combo of treadmill mostly and a few times outdoors. (initially weather was the reason but I also discovered I preferred indoors) For some reason I could not do it outdoors. I immediately became winded and had to stop. At the end I…
  • Total weight loss 110 pounds How long did it take you to lose the weight? 1 year 2 months What method did you use to lose the weight? MFP- ate what I wanted within my calorie limits and about 6 months in started moving more with a Fitbit goal of 10,000 steps a day most days of the week How long are you in maintenance? 6…
  • When I hit goal I gave myself a five pound range in the sense of never going higher than my goal weight and five pounds less at most. Today I am ten pounds below goal weight. I never imagined I would be and thought I would struggle with gaining. It's an odd thing I continue to work on but because all my life I have…
  • Absolutely it is enough. I lost 110 pounds by staying under my calories and using my Fitbit to do 10K most days of the week. I had no time to go to the gym so I get those steps anywhere- parking farther away, grocery store etc.
  • For me during my loss the hardest part was accepting that it was a slow process and would take over a year to get where I want to be. After my loss while maintenance I wasn't prepared for losing the "high" of stepping on the scale seeing a loss. Yes it is a high to stay within my goal but I really was unsure about how to…
  • Thank you so much! I was never hungry nor did I feel deprived. For me I started immediately trying to look at where I wanted to intake most my calories. I am a light lunch heavier dinner person. I think my breakfast would be middle range though most say make that your heaviest meal. If I had a heavy breakfast that would…
  • When I first started MFP I went as low as I could go setting my goal at 2 pounds loss a week- that was 1220. I didn't exercise nor have a fitbit then so I pretty much stayed around that goal. After about 50 pounds loss I read on the boards you should slowly introduce your body back to more intake and I changed it to 1…
  • I think the reason I wanted to start running versus walking is the thrill of competition- not with others but myself. Years ago I would have NEVER imagined doing anything remotely related to a 5K. At 249 pounds and 5'6 it was enough to imagine walking to the car!! So I think I just wanted to stretch myself while embracing…
  • I love this chart! Thank you! I am a layer person lol. Today when I ran (and you know what you are right I am a runner even if slow
  • You were so right!! Today I did a 5K where I "wogged" (i.e. Walked and jogged) I tackled Week 4 Day 3 on the C25K app which is a jump from a 6min run to 8min and I did it!! I did it outdoors!!! The difference was I didn't worry about speed. I know I was doing a light jog barely but it is more than when I walk and I really…
  • If you find a leap intimidating, try splitting the difference. When the program jumped from 10 to 25 minutes, I didn't think I could do it, so I did something like 16 minutes x 2 instead. Then the next time I did the 25 minutes. I was amazed and thrilled to find out I could do it. So maybe do 6 + 7 + 6 instead of 8 x 2.…
  • That makes sense about the movement! I honestly don't think I'm a runner nor will ever be. I enjoy walking 5Ks and lost 100 pounds doing so. I will walk in the cold but oddly the running thing just isn't for me so perhaps it isn't about the weather. I guess I have to forgive myself for not loving it lol. But I'm not giving…
  • All of these replies are so helpful to me! Thank you everyone! i really do think I need to think about my goals. The fact that I am even attempting this I have already done more than I ever imagined. I will take it just like my 100 pound weight loss-slow and steady! I love what someone mentioned about repeating. I am at…
