Walk vs run for first 5K
Hi all. I am considering doing my first 5k in September. I am a 57 (will be 58 by then) year old male. Over the last year or so, I have dropped from 260 to 190. My eventual goal is about 165. I also have reduced heart ejection fraction from a heart attack a couple of years ago that left some scar tissue. It is currently…

Survived the "widowmaker"
I was riding in Missouri this weekend (from Minnesota) and ended up in the ER with chest and back pain. Turns out that I had apparently had a heart attack some time in the previous 24 hours. They put 2 stents in my heart. How is this a victory? In the past 6 months, I have lost 40 pounds and been walking 3-7 miles a day.…

Pre-packaged salads
I love how convenient Dole's pre-packaged chopped salads are and really like the taste of some of them. The drawback on most is that they are all full calorie dressings. Does anybody know of anything similar that uses lower calorie dressing?

Effect of dieting on Testosterone
For the last month, I have been closely watching my calorie intake, staying between 1200-1500 a day. It has been working and I have been losing about 2 pounds a week. I was planning to increase my exercise as well, but I have been so tired. I had my testosterone tested last week and it came back low. I am a 54 year old…

Visualization help
Is there an app or program that you can load a current photo and stats to and get a reasonable idea what you might look like at a given weight or fat percentage?

Counting double?
I am using a Garmin tracker. If I also use map my walk, does it count those calories burned twice, or is the app smart enough to sort it out?

Garmin Vivosmart HR
This morning I did an hour on an eliptical. My Garmin Vivosmart HR showed a significant difference than what the machine showed for both distance and calories burned. I used the "walk" mode. Should I be using either "run" or "cardio" instead? I'm sure it has at least something to do with my stride length setting.

Low-sodium instant soup/ramen?
Has anybody found any decent instant soups or ramen that aren't massively high in sodium?

Sore knees
I went hiking this weekend. Friday, I went about 12 miles through very rocky and rugged terrain with lots of elevation changes. The tendons on the outside of my knees got very sore, especially on downhill sections. Is there anything I can do to make these "stronger"? I plan to do a lot more hiking and I don't want the pain…

Eggs
Our family doesn't really eat that many eggs. This year, my daughter decided that she would like to raise some chickens. They just started to lay. We will probably start eating more eggs...lol. What would the nutritional differences be between store bought white eggs and organic brown eggs from free-ranging chickens? Does…

5 week projected weight.
Something is goofy. I'm well under my calorie goals each day, yet my "5 week" weight is going up. I use a Garmin Vivosmart HR and the Garmin Connect site imports my calorie intake from this site, but this site doesn't seem to be pulling my exercise cals from Connect. Anybody else having issues?

Questions about Garmin Vivosmart HR
I just started using a Vivosmart HR and have a couple of questions for other users. It seems to track my resting HR ok, but when I'm working out, it doesn't show my elevated HR. I was hoping that it would confirm the HR's that I am seeing on the elliptical. It isn't counting my "activity minutes" either. The step count and…

Is a mile a mile?
Generally speaking, will I burn the same number of calories walking a mile, regardless of the pace? Does 60 mins at 2 miles an hour burn the same as 30 minutes at 4 miles an hour?

Resting Heartrate
Is there a resting heartrate that should be considered too low? I know a lower resting HR can indicate better fitness, but is there a lower threshold?

Omron body composition monitor
Has anyone here used Omron's full body composition monitor that you stand on and hold the handle? is it pretty accurate? It seems to me that it would be much better than the regular scale type ones.

Logging in on MFP
I don't use my phone to log in here, I use my computer. There are going to be some days coming up that I won't have access to it. Can I go back a few days and log my food and exercise and not lose my streak?

E-readers
I love to read and I really like actual books, but I'm thinking an e-reader would work better for the gym. The little holders on the treadmills and elipticals don't do a good job with regular books. Anybody have any suggestions as to which one? are some more durable than others? Water resistant even maybe?

Striiv Fusion
I'm looking at the Striiv Fusion. I want a continuous HR monitor along with the other tracking features. I don't have/use a smartphone, so syncing to one doesn't matter. Anybody using one of these? what do you think?

Actual workout partner
As helpful as an online accountability partner may be, I'm looking for an actual workout partner. Is there a specific place to post here looking for that? I'm in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis and hoping to find someone that would like to do mainly cardio weekday mornings.
