CrossFit newbie needs advice
Hi, Yesterday I had my first CrossFit foundations session (3 total). I’m super out of shape, and while my expectations were low it was still depressing. Everyone was very nice though and there was a scaled version for anything I needed. Does anyone have tips for a very out of shape CrossFit newbie? Also - I know CrossFit…

Vent about slow start
This is just a vent. I need to give the people around me a break. I just started back again, it’s going very slow, and it’s incredibly frustrating. I lost 40lb in 2017, stopped tracking and gained 15lbs back in 2018, now I’m back at it with 65-85lbs to lose (target weight is what can be realistically maintained, won’t know…

Feeling off if too long between workouts
A lot of people I know who are fit, and people on here, say that if they go too long before workouts they start to feel (for lack of a better term) off. If this is the case for you, how long did that take? Bonus points if you do/did hate exercise.

Goal strategy - OCR/5k
So the good thing is going ok, but I hate the gym so I think I need a fitness goal. Going 3x week isn’t proving to be a motivating enough goal. I hate running (excessively, it’s weird), but I think a 5k run (spring) and a 5k obstacle course race (late summer/early fall) next summer are reasonable. Obviously, I’m hoping the…

Elliptical/cardio question
So I’m going to start going back to the gym. One issue I’ve had in the past is identifying cardio progress. I use the elliptical. I honestly just have an irrational hatred of the treadmill, and sitting on a bike for 30min hurts my butt (I’m heavy but it’s not and the combination is not great for biking). If I were running,…

Track exercise?
I don't track my exercise in MFP. I use another app to keep track of that. For calories my daily target is a bit lower than it needs to be (it's by no means low), so I just sort of take it easy on myself those days because of pre/post workout snacks. Should I be logging those calories in MFP? Why?

>50lbs - How much and how long?
Hi, I'm trying to give myself some realistic time based goals. I think it'll help me keep motivated. I need to lose 60lbs (60 to top of target, past that I'll decide later). My question is this - how much did you lose, and how long did it take you? Bonus if you didn't do any specific diet (ex keto, pales, low/no carb,…

Elliptical progress
Hi, Quick question - what's the best way to know you're progressing on the elliptical? Do you go by HR? Or something else?

Just started - question
Hi, I just started exercising after years of nothing. Like I make couch potatoes look active. I'm doing Zumba type things (classes at the gym, mostly dancey cardio things). Im going to add yoga when the schedule works out. Gym also has Pilates (standing/mat) Between newly exercising (1 week) and natural tension my back is…

That annoying thing....
That thing where you've lost a good amount of weight (35lbs) and you're still a long way from your goal and it's just like "my god, how fat was I?" Because you've lost a lot of weight but you're still quite big and it's a weird mix of pride (yay success) and depression (ugh so far to go still). Or is it only me?

Which Fitbit/tracker?
Hi. I'm thinking of getting a Fitbit or something, as I redefine sedentary these days. I want a bracelet type, preferably with time (if I'm wearing a thing on my wrist might as well make it a watch). My budget is lower end and my needs are simple - I'm not an athlete and I don't need 1000 apps on my wrist. If you have one…

Anyone else lose in small chunks?
So I tend to lose weight in small chunks. Nothing for a week then Bam! 2lbs down. No change, just as though my body is saving up or something. Anyone else deal with this? (I'm not concerned, just curious if anyone else deals with this).

Beginner question
Background first: I am just just starting to work out (first one today). I'm 70-100lbs overweight (depending on your criteria), and very unfit/out of shape. I'm also naturally very strong and very muscular. It's genetic, and requires no effort to build or maintain. My main fitness goal is to build an exercise habit (at…

Cardio plan help
I need help figuring out a cardio plan. My main goal is the habit, so I want to keep it fairly simple, but if I'm going the gym I want to make good use of my time. I can do 45min at a decent pace, so I want to start there. 3x week. The issue is I don't really know where to start. I just sort of play around and it feels…

Yoga as strength training?
Is yoga (regular, not power or hot) good enough strength training to prevent muscle loss? How is it different in this respect from body weight exercises? Maintaining muscle and improving flexibility are the only goals here, not toning or building.

Rowing for strength training?
Can the rowing machine (eventually at high resistance) be the strength component of my workout? I'm just starting to work out, so the goals are habit (3x week) and cardio endurance right now. My workout is mostly cardio, with some strength at the end to maintain muscle. I know it's a full body workout that engages many…

Looking for people to share small victories/failures with
So I lost with MFP earlier this year then stopped (but maintained), and now I'm back at it. Going pretty well too. The problem is that I don't have anyone to share those tiny daily things with. I have a strong support system, but they either have never had eating or weight issues, or have weight issues they're struggling…
