Concussion
I managed to give myself concussion, because I am smart and co-ordinated. This is properly diagnosed by a doctor in Accident and Emergency, by the way, I had a CT of my head to rule out bleeding and everything, not me diagnosing myself. I was told to avoid "strenuous exercise" until I am symptom-free, which I can expect to…

Exercise calories
When I go for a run, I use my Garmin as this allows me to follow pre-set programs. After said run, it gives me the calories I've just burned, along with the distance / time / speed. I plug the same information into MFP which gives me a drasticly different calorie count. It has been as much as 80-100 calories different,…

ARFID
Does anyone have any experience of coping with ARFID? I was diagnosed with ARFID and food neophobia at the age of 9 but the issues went further back than that. Does anyone have any tips or advice on dealing with it and have thoughts on how to make sure I get all the nutrients I need, short of just taking supplements?

Garmin calorie burn
I have a Garmin watch which I use for running but the calories it gives are VERY different to MFP. I know MFP overestimates but I'm now confused. I'm 22 years old, 5 foot 2 and weigh 151.0lbs. I ran for 28 minutes at a fairly sedate pace. MFP thinks I burned 288 calories The app linked to my heart rate monitor thinks I…

I can't cook, HELP!!
I have an electric hob / oven which I cannot use because every time I turn it on, it trips the fuse. My landlord had a guy out today and he's going to have to order a part to fix it, meaning I am without hob / oven for the next three days, possibly four if he cannot fit it the day the part arrives. I do have a fully…

Working out with an injury
I am currently recovering from a badly sprained ankle so cannot run, which is usually my only exercise because I enjoy it. I'm out of action for about 8 weeks while I heal so what else can I do? I do not have, and cannot afford, any kit or a gym membership. I'd like to do cardio but without access to a swimming pool and…

Good for a giggle.
This made me laugh so hard I snorted hot tea out my nose and gave myself a slight nosebleed. There is an app called Calorie Mama which logs food based on a photo. No telling the app what the food is, what the ingredients are and no weights. Just a single photo. It claims to be totally accurate. I only discovered this…

Calories in stinging nettles
It is spring and I'm British so it's nettle eating time!! My garden is rather full of stinging nettles right now and I like free food but cannot for the life of me figure out the calorie content. In terms of cooking and taste the comparison most people make is to spinich but I don't want to log nettles as spinich if it…

Very different calorie goals
MFP states I will maintain my weight in 1650 calories per day while MND suggests 1923. One of these is clearly incorrect but which one? My weight loss plan is to set my goal to my TDEE and not go over that, if I maintain then fine, if I am slightly under and lose that is also fine but I am struggling to work out what my…

Advice for bizarre body shape
Please ignore the mess in the background. I was very stressed that day!!! m The attached photograph is me lying down as I normally would and, as you can see, my rib cage is very very prominent which I hate. I feel such obvious ribs, even when standing, make me look like I am far too thin even though my bmi is 24 so if…

Water retention or overeating?
On Friday I weighed in at 134.2lbs. Over the weekend I went to the North Yorkshire Moors and walked 16-17 very steep, muddy, slippy and difficult miles over two days which included climbing over many fences, wading through a small stream because the promised bridge didn't exist, sliding down a muddy bank through brambles.…

The most dangerous diet
(Sort of serious, sort of the see what kind of crazy is out there) Is there one diet you would want everyone to avoid or outlaw, not because it is a fad but because it is actively dangerous? My (least?) favorite danger diet is the ABC diet or Ana Boot Camp diet, promoted on pro-anorexia forums, which lasts 50 days and the…

Estimating calorie burn
I have an app telling me my calorie burn but how far can I trust it? The app in question is WAHOOfitness and I have told it my age, height and weight. I then synced it to. Chest-strap heart rate monitor and off I went. because it knows my BMI, age and what my heart is doing, can I trust what it is telling me in terms of…

Help with my first 5k
I have discovered a 5k, on tarmac with no hills, which runs every single Saturday morning. I've signed up for this weekly event with my first 5k on the 24th September. I am 21, female and 142lbs though I'm quite short so this makes me about 10lbs overweight. I've never, ever run a 5k before though can just about jog for…

Changes to daily routine
In September, I'll be starting the new semester which means my daily routine will have to change. I don't yet know what my new timetable is but I do know it will be different every day and, chances are, I will have a lecture or seminar right at the time I am used to eating or exercising. In the past at uni, I was on campus…

Starting again
I managed to get down to the lowest weight I ever remember being, 137lbs. I then went to stay with relatives for two weeks and didn't log during that time but refused chocolate biscuits, had salad with every dinner. I didn't think my eating was horrendous but when I go home I weighed in at 141.7lbs. Yes, some of that is…

Can't breathe and can't be bothered
This is part rant, part asking for advice. My rented student digs are full of mould and damp which is having a serious impact on my asthma. I've tried contacting the landlord but he has not responded to some messages and responded to others with a promise of being at the house at a certain time but then not showed up with…

Is my maths and logic correct?
This made sense to me, I just want to make sure my logic and maths is correct here. With only 10lbs left to lose, I don't have room for logging errors. I have this powder to make chocolate milk and the nutrition label says it is 151 calories per serving. One serving is 13.8g of power and 200ml semi-skimmed milk. 200ml of…

University guys and gals?
And undergrads, postgrads or recent graduates around? Having a timetable that isn't consistent from one day to the nest, let alone week to week, fitting in essays, revision, dissertations, sports and societies on a low budget isn't easy. Factor in a total lack of gym (I jut can't afford it) and not enough sleep can make…

How to log calories from water infusers?
I have just bought one of those fruit-infuser water bottles and am now wondering how to log it. I don't actually eat the fruit, because I mostly use lemon and don't really want to eat a load of lemon slices, but am getting something from the fruit, hence the flavour. How do I log this fruit?

Donating blood
I am a daily weigher and the day after giving blood, the scale had, unsurprisingly, changed. My TOM started the same day and my weight dropped from my week-long plateau of 151.2lbs to 146.8lbs in a few days. Since then, my weight has been creeping back up and I am now back to 150lbs though nothing at all has changed. I…

Repetitive diet
My diet tends to be pretty similar from one day to the next. I don't eat breakfast as I am never hungry in the mornings, get lunch on campus which is a sandwich or wrap, then dinner is a veggie burger (without the bun) and a salad. Problem is, repetition is boring!! I'm on 1200 calories per day and simply cannot afford to…

Packaging / labelling
Most packaging will just say "X amount of calories per Y weight" which is easy to work out. Some stuff will say that then add the words "as consumed" or "as prepared." I am assuming "as prepared" means that will be the calorie count if you cook it like the package tells you to, is that right? What about "as consumed"? This…

Overweight undergrad
Hi, I'm Emma! I'm a second year undergraduate from the UK and am twenty years old. I'm about half way between the healthy weight category and the obese category ( according to the NHS) so now is really the time to change, especially with the FREE 'social sports' being rolled out by my university. I know, lucky me! For my…

How fast is too fast?
I joined MFP on 1st February this year, weighing exactly 160lbs and as of the 20th February, I weighed in at 152.4lbs. I entered my information, 20 year old, 5''3 sedentary female, aiming for a 2lbs a week loss, on MFP and the NHS website and my calorie goal of 1200 per day is an average of the two different sites. As I am…
