The most dangerous diet

(Sort of serious, sort of the see what kind of crazy is out there)

Is there one diet you would want everyone to avoid or outlaw, not because it is a fad but because it is actively dangerous? My (least?) favorite danger diet is the ABC diet or Ana Boot Camp diet, promoted on pro-anorexia forums, which lasts 50 days and the highest intake day at 500 calories with some water-only days, the last few weeks having two 24 hours fasts.

Doesn't take a genius to work out why that one is such an issue. What is the most crazy, dangerous diet you have heard of?

Jesus...that's actually a thing? I hope to god it's at least all tuna and chicken breast, but knowing anyone batty enough to roll with that, it's probably not.

Back in my less educated days, I tried a "juice fast" that was all green juices. I think it was supposed to last for a whole month. Virtually no fat or protein, no solids (except for undressed salads), just juice and greens for a month. It also included colonics (which I didn't do because I was broke) and laxative tea.

I can't remember the name of it now but that was probably the dumbest diet I ever did.

(I did not make it a month, I think I made it three days).

*sigh* Do we really want a thread sharing all the horrible ideas out there with impressionable people?

I think collecting the crazy and warning people they are actually properly dangerous and, in some cases (ABC and 2468 diets) do and have killed people who tried them. Warning people of this is, in my opinion, not a bad thing.

I concur. I can honestly only think of two VLCD protocols that won't completely wreck you (and they're both essentially the same thing), and even those run on quite limited timeframes.

While I agree with you, in theory...

Many - not all, fortunately, but many - people that I've witnessed on these forums that are looking for quick fixes and whatnot won't listen to reason. They'll post their horrific diets, have it explicitly explained why what they're doing/planning is a bad idea, then do it anyway. Putting a list/description of various bad ideas will just give these people more bad ideas of what they can do.

It's my understanding that a person with anorexia is not likely to be swayed by the threat of death. :( I can easily picture a young person who isn't thinking clearly reading your original post (as well as any follow up comments) and going, "Cool!" Same idea behind women not being allowed to close their diaries and get a weight projection when under 1000 calories, although some would just consider that providing information.

Unfortunately that's what I see here in the comments. A bunch of folks are saying they either want to try it or have tried it several times and want to keep trying!

I feel like it should be actively encouraged in those who are stupid enough to keep trying, even after seeing how crap it makes them feel and perform. The gene pool needs a bit of bleach from time to time.

Have you ever heard of the Darwin Awards? I think you may get a giggle out of some of them!

Personally, i think the most dangerous diets are the ones that are so afraid of carbohydrates they wont allow you to eat enough fruits and vegetables. Diets like Atkins and South beach.

Edited: removed my input as people have a good point about not advertising the bad diets.

I loved that site as a teenager, but I haven't checked it in years. I might give it a look today, if I have some free time. Might be some anusing new additions.
