I'm going to pick one film from each of my three favorite genres since I know no other way of coming up with only three:

    1. For light-hearted, fun, roller coaster rides of an action flick, Big Trouble in Little China.

    2. For horror, Wes Craven Presents: They, although it more or less is because the movie touches on a childhood fear of mine that allows me to relate to it. To others, it won't be nearly as good.

    3. For "thinking man's sci fi" movies, I have to give it to Blade Runner.

EDIT: If you were to expand the list to "top 5" then The Goonies and The Lost Boys would definitely be on it occupying the other two slots.
