Facebook Group anyone?
Hi there, just want to see if anyone is interested in starting a Facebook Group for the MRC. Leave a reply here if you're interested. If we have enough people, I'll go ahead and start it, and post the link here.

Signed up for my first half - November 2017
Hello all! I'm a noob to this group, just found out it existed. I had been considering signing up for a half for a long time, but seriously doubted I could do it since I haven't been able to run longer than 10 miles yet. I've been running for a year and one month. Well, I bit the bullet and signed up for a half that looked…

My 2016 Resolution - ACHIEVED
In January of 2016, I made a decision that I wanted to lose weight once and for all. I was 255 pounds (height is 5'6") and I was uncomfortable all the time. I was tired of having back pain from the excess weight as well. And I was simply fed up with disliking the way I looked. So I made a resolution to start taking better…

What re your favorite vegetarian websites/resources?
Hi there! I am considering going vegetarian, but I'd like to do more research to see if this sort of lifestyle would be sustainable for me. So... does anyone have a favorite veggie website or other resource that they use frequently? It can be a recipe site, or something about nutrition, etc. Also, has anyone found that…

Is it normal for one's hair to fall out while dieting?
I've noticed since I've been eating at a deficit that my hair has become really nasty. It falls out at a much higher rate than before, and now it looks scraggly and limp. I was trying to grow it out, but it looks like I'll have to go get it cut shorter again. Is this normal for eating at a deficit? Or is there some…

What's your first 5k race?
I've picked out my first race - The Brookfield Zoo Run Run 5k on 9/11/2016. Registration starts May 30, and I will be registering that day! For those of you not familiar with Brookfield Zoo, it is an absolutely wonderful place, and the run takes place entirely on zoo grounds, so it should be a blast.…

Question for those who strength train at home
I am thinking I need to do my strength training at home, because I absolutely hate doing it at the gym. Too many bros and not enough space there. So I have a question for those of you who do strength training at home: What sort of equipment do you use? I live in a smallish apartment so I can't fit anything huge. I was…

When can you start running every day?
I am a beginner runner. I've only been running a couple months, I'm doing c25k week 5, and I can comfortably run about a mile before I need a walk break. Right now I'm doing some running every other day. I am getting quite addicted to running, and I could love to be able to run every day, but I know I shouldn't push myself…

Affordable alternatives to Luna/Kind bars
Hi everyone -- For a while now, I've been eating a lot of Luna and Kind bars, because they're convenient and relatively low-calorie. I have one or two for breakfast, and one for a snack before my workout, and sometimes even one before bed if I'm feeling hungry. So yeah, I eat them a lot. So far it's worked okay for me,…

I just want to say that I really love you all. These forums have been so helpful in my weight-loss journey, and generally everyone I've met on here is genuinely helpful and comes up with great suggestions for my problems. I don't think I could do it without you guys... so THANK YOU!!!

Time/distance question - treadmill vs. outdoors
OK, so something I noticed. I seem to be able to walk/run at better speeds outdoors than on the treadmill. For example: usually at the gym I walk/run on the treadmill for an hour, and the display says I've done about 3.5 miles when I'm done. This past Sunday, I walked (just walked) for an hour, and did 4.6 miles in the…

Runners: How do you avoid blisters?
Just got a new pair of running shoes, from a real running store. First time wearing them, everything was fine. Today was the second time wearing them, doing c25k, and I developed blisters on the insides of my feet, right between the big toe and arch. My first thought is that I wasn't wearing the right socks. I only had on…

Strength training gives me headaches :(
I've definitely noticed a correlation between doing strength training and getting really bad headaches the day after. Also, it seems that the more sore my body is after a session, the worse my headache is too. I don't get headaches after doing just cardio, so it's gotta be related to the strength training. Does this happen…

Is tea as good as water for hydration?
I'm just curious... does tea hydrate as well as water? I suppose it depends on the kind of tea. I drink a lot of black tea, which does have caffeine. Does the caffeine have a negative effect on hydration? Thanks

Clothing and weight loss
I've lost enough weight now where my current clothes are too big, however, I still have a ways to go before I hit my goal. I want to get clothes that fit, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on stuff that won't fit me in a couple months as I continue to lose weight. But I also don't want to be in ill-fitting clothing…

How much cardio vs. strength
I do a lot of cardio. I do 45-60 minutes, 5-6 times a week on the elliptical or walking/jogging. I like doing a lot of cardio because I like a good calorie burn. But it has occurred to me that I might be doing too much cardio and not enough strength training. I only do what I could consider the bare minimum of strength…

Soylent - opinions?
My boyfriend just ordered some Soylent meal replacement. I'm curious to hear if anyone here has tried it, and what they think about it. Thanks!

!@#$% shin splints - how to recover?
Well, I must have overdone it with the running because now I have a shin splint in my left leg. This is highly disappointing because I was having so much fun with the running and trying to improve my distances. My question is, what's the best way to recover from shin splints? Obviously lay off the running for a while, but…

A fantastic moment in my weight-loss journey
Just want to share... I had kind of a breakthrough moment today. I'm at the gym on my lunch break, as usual. I finish my workout and go back into the locker room and go to rinse out my headband like I always do. I catch a peek at myself in the mirror. And for the first time in what seems like a million years, I did NOT…

What's your favorite no-cal beverage?
I'd like to stop drinking calories altogether. Right now I drink a lot of unsweetened tea, but sometimes that gets boring. I'd like to hear what you all like to drink that's calorie-free!

Getting closer to my running goal
Today I was able to put in one mile of running during my treadmill workout. I was doing intervals, where I would walk 0.25 mile, run 0.25, etc. I was able to do the run interval four times, which totaled one mile! I've never put in a full mile of running before, so this is a big accomplishment for me. My ultimate goal is…

Starbucks is my downfall
Seriously, I am like, addicted to Starbucks. I have to have a latte in the morning. I log it as part of my breakfast, and the milk in it does help keep me feeling full until lunch (I also have a Luna bar with it), and the caffeine helps me get through my workout. I go nonfat, which helps knock out a few calories. My…

Toes get tingly/numb on the elliptical?
This is a weird problem. Every time I’m on the elliptical, my toes start to go tingly and numb. I have to pause and shake them out many times during a workout. It’s not debilitating, but it is really annoying. What the blankety-blank is going on?

What do you consider a "good" workout?
What are your criteria to consider a workout a "good" workout? For me, I feel like I have to really push myself to feel like I got the most out of my workout. If I'm not sweating like crazy and my muscles don't feel tired, I consider it merely an okay workout. Just curious how you guys rank your workouts.

#SmallVictories
Hi folks! I have a hashtag I use on Twitter called #SmallVictories, which I use to keep myself motivated to keep going. Anything that can be considered progress goes under this category. For example, when I first started working out, I couldn't even run. Now, two months later, I'm able to run nearly three-quarters of a…

NOOB
Hello there. I'm 43, an IT professional and divorced mom from the Chicago area. I started MFP a couple months ago. So far I've lost 14 pounds and have 66 pounds to go LOL. My home feed is pretty dead, so I could use some MFP friends! Glad to be here!

Best way to track calories burned
This has probably been talked about before, if so I apologize... I'm very confused about how much I'm burning during a workout. The machine will say one thing, Google Fit will say something else, and MFP will say something totally different. Usually the differences between the numbers are pretty large, so I don't know…
