Any ladies managed to get to 18-20% BF? What did you do?
Hi guys! So I've been on here for quite awhile now and have reached the size I'd like to be at (wearing a 4-6, down from a 10-12 over about 16 months), but am still struggling to bring my body fat percentage down. Since the beginning of January, I've managed to inch down from 23.1% to 21.8%, but obviously things are going…

What 10 lbs looks like
Hi everyone, I notice a lot on the forums that people that don't have a TON of weight to lose get discouraged when their numbers go down slowly, because there are so many people on here trying to lose a much more significant amount of weight that are dropping really quickly. Therefore, I decided to illustrate what a 10…

Fitting in at the gym - TOTAL SUCCESS
7 am. At the gym with my husband. Understated work out clothes so that I look like I'm serious. It's mostly guys on the lifting floor, and I prefer not to draw attention to myself. Lifting heavy, feeling good, hitting higher weights than I have so far. Then, suddenly, it happens: a giant centipede crawls right past my foot…

NSV: I bought a bikini!
Now I just have to gather the courage to wear it in public! I'm heading to LA on Sunday, and I'm contemplating not bringing a backup suit so that I can't chicken out. Anyway, I still have a lot of work to do to get where I'd like to be (my body fat is around 22-23% still, and I'd love to get it down to like 18% so that all…

Why running and cardio alone aren't giving you what you want
I read this article today, and although it's a very important read, I think the title "Why Women Should Not Run" is a bit misleading. However, it does a good job of explaining the dangers of the cycle of over-cardio that many women get in to trying desperately to burn fat. What I get out of this: cardio in moderation, add…

Healthy gluten free recipes!
Hi everyone, I've recently started a healthy gluten free recipe blog, complete with nutrition info, so I thought I'd share in case anyone else was suffering from Celiac or gluten intolerance and needed some meal ideas. I've actually had non-GF people try and enjoy them too, so really anyone can make them, the lack of…

Help would be appreciated. I followed SideSteel's rules!
I'm two months in to a cut, and am not getting the results I was hoping for at all. I got back from the holidays feeling bloated and constipated (TMI? Too bad!) and weighing about 150 lbs, so I decided to do an extended cut to get rid of the extra puffiness (I had been experimenting with bulk/cut cycles before the…

HELP! I'm sabotaging my office's diet!!
I've always loved to bake, ever since I was a kid. It's sort of a zen activity for me. Since I've started trying to get my waistline under control, however, I don't want baked goods in the house. Solution? I bring them all to work with me! But now my coworkers are starting to hate me, because I'm sabotaging all their diets…

Where to weight lift in NYC?
Any fellow NYC area folks out there have a good gym where they do their lifting? My fiance and I have been at our gym for about a year, and while it's pretty nice, it is lacking in good lifting equipment. Lots of machines, but no barbells whatsoever and kind of limited dumbbells! Which means no squats and no deadlifts, and…

EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale?
EatSmart Precision GetFit Digital Body Fat Scale Does anyone have this scale? It's got generally high reviews on Amazon, but it's always good to get personal recommendations! Background: I really want this for the body composition features. I don't actually care what I weigh, but I'm trying to reduce my body fat percentage…

"Cutting" without losing muscle mass - could use some tips!
Hi all! I've already solicited my friends for advice on this one, but any other input would be appreciated! As of mid-July, I've lost enough weight to be down to the size I want to be. However, although I am not QUITE the dreaded "skinny fat," I'm not as firmed up as I would prefer to be. In August I decided to suck it up…

Not positive whose calorie advice to take!
I recently started lifting (a modified version of the NROL4W plan that my fiance and I do together), and I am just not sure how much I should be eating! The problem is that I have two estimates of my inactive TDEE: 1755 from fitnessfrog.com, and 2024 from the NROL4W formula. Some background: I've lose 18 lbs or so, and…

Macro preferences?
Hi guys, Basic backstory: I've gotten down to the size I want to, and now I'm just trying to tone up and burn a little bit of lingering fat. Trying to drop my body fat percentage by about 2-4%. I've currently got my macros set at 45% carbs, 25% fat and 30% protein, and was just wondering if anyone was using a different…

Grammar police! Your clothes get LOOSE when you LOSE weight.
You are not "loosing" weight. You are "losing" weight. "Loose" is how your clothes fit when you are successful in this endeavor. I see this mistake about 100 times per day, and if I didn't get this off my chest now I was afraid that my head would explode :explode: That is all! You may return to what you were doing

Clothing swap??
Someone mentioned this in another thread, and I think it's a great idea. Not sure how to get it started though. As we all size down, obviously we have clothes that are too big, and need ones that are smaller. Setting up a clothing swap to pass on your "too big" stuff to people who need it in their interim phases seems like…

My journey (with pics!) and why I don’t believe in “after”
This is me in 2007 (2nd from the right). I thought I was an after. I’d lost 35 lbs on Weight Watchers. I wore a size 4, and was 5’7”, 130 lbs. This is me in May of 2011, at over 160 lbs. I’ll never be sure how heavy I got, because I refused to get on a scale. I was wearing a size 10. When I started tracking in January,…

My NSV - online clothes shopping
I was looking at a dress I liked on the Gap website this morning, and I went to their sizing chart. Then, out of curiosity, I decided to look at where my January measurements would have put me. When I started on MFP, I fell between a 12 and 14 on their size charts; a solid Large by any measurement. Today, I'm between a 4…

Best (natural) protein supplement?
Hi everyone, I'm having a hell of a time getting enough protein in without going way over on fat, especially on the days I weight lift, so I'm considering trying adding a bit of some sort of protein supplement to my morning smoothie. There are like 1,000,000 out there though, so I don't know where to start! I prefer to…

Scared to up my calories
After spending tons of time reading on the MFP forums, I've been considering upping my calories. Here's my info: My BMR is around 1450 My TDEE if I don't work out is around 1800 MFP recommends that I eat 1200 calories a day. Over the last three months, I've averaged closer to 1350, because I have my on days and my off…

New recipe I have to share! Barley pilaf with artichoke hear
I made this recipe tonight, and I have to say, I LOVED it. It's called barley pilaf with artichoke hearts, it's vegetarian, high fiber, low cal and low fat, it's DELICIOUS, and it's pretty simple to make. Check out the recipe at this link:…
