My fitness goals for 2013
I decided to do someting that I call "A mile a month". Basically, by the end of Janurary, I will be able to run/jog one mile without stopping. Feburary = 2 miles without stopping. So on and so on until, by New years Eve 2013/2014, I will be able to run 12 miles without stopping. The most I have ever done is 8 miles non…

CB radios
So, I picked up a Midland portable CB for my Jeep. I figured I only use it off road. Well, seeing that I am now doing more and more off roading, I decided to make a more permanate situation for this small portable unit. I swear, professional CB people have their own language. All I needed was a few adapters but, every…

Caring for my Hospice Father
I just need a place to vent. Dad was never really nice to me. I mean, not abusive or anything but, just not a nice guy. He has been fighting cancer for several years and about 6 weeks ago, the doctor told him that the meds were not working anymore and he needed to contact Hospice. Since he got off of the meds, he has lost…

...And not a single leg was worked
So, on my follow up for my broken ankle, the doctor told me "Yeah, you are looking at another 8 or 9 months recovery". WHAT!!!!! So I asked him if I should just cancel my gym membership and he was like "Oh, you can still go but, you just can't do anything like a treadmill or stairs or squats. Anything upper body is ok".

Just scored a .22 Magnum Derringer
It is a replacement for my current pocket pistol which (was) a 22 LR 5 shot. The problem with the old one is that it was so small that it was hard to shoot and almost impossible to **** the hammer (which was required to shoot) This new one is a double barrel (over under) break action which has no hammer. All in all, I am…

I broke my ankle :(
It never fails... I start getting back into good workout habits and I end up injuring myself. I broke my right ankle misstepping off the driveway. I broke the outer bone and pulled a bunch of tendons or something. This sucks and I demand pity.

So today is my 15 year anniversary.
My wife sent me a 15 LB fruit basket. It is comical to say the least but, at least it isn't 15 LBS of candy.

Thanks for not killing me!
I was driving home last night. It was a bit after 8:00 PM and it was a light rain. I was on Hypoluxo road. It is a 6 lane road with a 45 MPH speed limit. I was in the far right lane in the Jeep when I saw a car just stopped in the right lane. No lights or hazards or anything. Remember, nighttime and raining. I was able to…

Well, I joined a gym again
After finally feeling better with my various injuries, I signed up with Planet Fitness. I know.. lots of people here hate it but, for $10.00 a month, I think it will be OK. I don't mind the dress code (I actually like not feeling like I am in a pickup joint) and the "no grunting" rule is fine by me. Lets see if I can stay…

Brand new to the group.
Well, I might as well say hello. The car in my profile was sold off but, the current barn has: 1: 2001 Chevrolet Suburban (daily driver) 2: 1937 Chevrolet Sedan (327 mated to a 700 R4 and a Mustang II front end.) 3: 1973 Super Beetle (work in progress)

Like... If I purchase a box of gluten free pasta, will it go bad faster then "normal" pasta?

Marriage vows.. why bother anymore?
I see so many posts about people talking about leaving a spouse because "I am not happy anymore". Do the promises made really mean that little anymore in todays society?

How small is small enough?
I am quite confused by this since mine is pretty big. However, I am pretty sure if I took my big German Shepard mutt into the grocery store, I would be asked to leave. I am always seeing women with these tiny little dogs in a purse or a cart so, I am wondering, How small of a dog does the dog need to be in order to be…

Lots of camping this month.
As a family, we are taking the Suburban along with the camper trailer to Long Key (Florida Keys) for a five day camping/Kayaking/Fishing/Snorkeling trip. Coming back home on Wednesday and then early Thanksgiving day, I am leaving South Florida in the Jeep Wrangler and driving to Franklin, NC for two days of camping and to…

Sold the Beetle, bought a Jeep
My 1973 Super Beetle has been giving me a LOT of problems as of late and, while putting in new axles, I noticed a disturbing amount of rust on the front frame connector. This is something that would need to be addressed soon and, to do so, means pulling the body off the frame. So, I went Jeep shopping. Friday night, I got…

So, an old lady made me feel bad today
I have been slacking off on working out lately. The kayak has been dry The bike has flats and I have not been jogging like I should. Anyway, every few weeks when I go to Publix, I see this RAV 4 with this ancient looking sit-in kayak on a roof rack. This thing is pretty beat up and has all kinds of stickers and patches on…

Looking for people in Jaxsonville
I heard that there is a massive junkyard in Jax and I am trying to find the name of it. I am going up there this weekend. Anyone?

Spoke to the neighbor.....
So, I had posted a topic where the neighbors kid and his buddy were smoking pot and having a negetive impact on my wifes day care business. Here is what happened: OK... I spoke to the Mom last night. I went over there and the Son answered. I said . "Hey.. I need to talk to your Mom." He looked at me and, "... Ummmm" I…

Neighbor smoking pot. What would you do?
My wife runs a home based day care and, a large part of this day care is outside time in our back yard. The problem is that the teenager next door and his buddy enjoy smoking pot outside. The smell is strong enough to come into the back yard. It is also strong enough to where I can smell it as soon as I get out of my car…

I picked up a "new" car on Saturday
Check it out. It is a 1973 Super Beetle. The guy was asking $900.00 and I talked him down to $500.00 AND, as a bonus, it actually runs pretty good.

Semi automatic handguns and uncommon rounds
Cut to the chase... I do not believe that my wife could pull the trigger knowing that the person on the other end could probably die. Today, she called me in a panic. She said that she looked outside and the gate was open and the shed door was open. I told her to call the police and get the pistol. The problem is that she…

Any hunters here?
I mean "traditional" hunters. Not the ones who hunt in bars and gyms.

8 day road trip DONE
So, on October 5th (Friday) after work, I left West Palm Beach and drove to Tampa. From Tampa on Saturday Morning, I made it to North Carolina and stayed the night. By Sunday night, I was in New Jersey. On the way to Jersey, we drove thru Virginia and I was able to meet up with my best friend from my Army days for a little…

I forgot yesterday was Oct 03
For the first time in many years, Oct 03 passed without me giving it a second thought.....

Best and worst car. What is your criteria?
When you say this car was the "best", what do you base that decision on? For me, my biggest decision is the abuse-to-breakage ratio. For example, if I own an AMG55 Mercedes that seems to keep puking starters, it will be a bit lower on my points However, if I own a Honda Accord with 300,000 miles on it and all if needs is…

When did vehicles become so friggen expensive
My 2001 Suburban is starting to show it's age. I discovered that it is leaking water down the drivers side door and onto the floor. This is being caused by rust and since rust is my hated enemy, I decided it might be time to shop for a new SUV. My only considerations is that I want it to seat 8 comfortably. My field is…

My close call.
This is NOT an anti-gun post. I mentioned before that I am not a "gun nut" or even a gun lover. I look at my firearms as a tool. Nothing more. I had been out of the Army for about a year. I lived in a crappy apartment, drove a crappy Buick, and had a nice Israeli Arms 9MM pistol. I was driving home at night. Let me try to…
