When did vehicles become so friggen expensive

My 2001 Suburban is starting to show it's age. I discovered that it is leaking water down the drivers side door and onto the floor. This is being caused by rust and since rust is my hated enemy, I decided it might be time to shop for a new SUV.
My only considerations is that I want it to seat 8 comfortably.
My field is very limited and it looks like I aill be dropping at LEAST 40K on a people mover.
This is more of a complaint then anything else....

Are you buying new or used?
Of course if you're buying new it's retarded expensive. I leased for that reason but am finding that the restrictions of having a lease will probably deter me from leasing again in the future.
HOWEVER.. Getting a nice 2010 or 2011 can save you a crap load of money but still get you into a nice ride..
I hate car shopping.0 -
Well, I WAS looking new but, it looks like I will need to start looking at used.
Another option would be to pony up the three or four grand and just have my existing Suburban body worked and repainted.
The rust seems to be confined to the roof and upper door sills.0 -
buy a program car, it's a great deal. I bought a 2010 Lexus RX350 with 30k miles on it for 32k through the local lexus dealership. The dealerships use their vehicles usually until 29K miles and then sell them. you can find a great deal and the cars are in great condition.0

You would think with the huge supply of cars, they would drop the price of them. That's why I'll be buying a used car. Although I've been saving up for months just to be able to do that! I can't imagine ever being able to afford a new car, not until my student loans are gone anyway.0

If you are mechanically inclined...go check out an auto auction. I got a 2008 Volvo XC90, 14K miles on blue book value $39K and bought it for $11.5K. It had been stolen and later recovered so it's registered as a salvaged title but other than that, I got a helluva deal. Since I didn't spend that much on the SUV...I then went and got myself into more debt and bought me a 2011 Dodge Challenger.0

I wouldn't try to fix it for that kind of expense.. I mean, it's 12 years old now, what else is going to start going wrong with it?0 -
I have a 2004 Honda Pilot. Seats 8 (small adults or children only in the furthest back seat), and I absolutely love it.
I agree with buying 1-2 years used. Let someone else eat the depreciation.
FWIW, I live in the tropics, and we have no rust or other problems with the Pilot at all. It's going on 94,000 miles.
Also, I shopped around for a solid 3 months waiting for just the right car to come up at just the right price. I got mine for $7,000 under blue book value and 4 brand new 60,000 mile Michelin truck tires from the dealer who had it on the lot too long.
It's worth being patient and busting your *kitten* to find a good deal with cars.0 -
If I can convince my wife to step down into a Mini van, I would have a LOT more options.
She really loves the Suburban and, quite honestly, we use it to capacity quite often.
Even this weekend we had it loaded to the gills with flowers and other party decorations and two weeks before that it was loaded with a bunch of baby stuff.
And next month six of us are going to Tampa, luggage included.
But, I didn't even think of a dealership display model. And seeing that it is a Suburban and not a Camaro, the test drives were probably not that "Spirited"0 -
Minivans are really good for cargo, but they suck for towing. If you don't do any towing, it would save you a ton. You would also lose your higher ground clearance, which may or may not be a problem for you.
Most come with the option of a roof rack also, which would open up even more cargo space.0 -
I had a car crash this morning in my car soo my car wont cost me a fortune anymore. Will be saving soo much on fuel. But whenever i decide to get a new one, my insurance will be much higher!0
