Just scarffed down some Savannah Smiles...
You know, the yummy lemon Girl Scout cookies. One serving to be exact. Within minutes I became really jittery and I've been this way for about 10 minutes. What is this telling me?? Just a huge indicator of the sugar content? I eat sugar all the time (its my downfall.. I'd be at my goal already if I didn't always give in)…

Are all calories created equal?
If I'm trying to lose weight and I eat 1300 calories a day, which is my deficit needed to lose 1.5 lbs per week... would it make a difference in my weight loss if those calories are from clean, nutritious foods vs. unhealthy "empty" calories? My goal is to eat clean most of the time but I have the occasional slip up (which…

Why do you care so much about your health?
Everyone has their own motivations on why they want to lose weight, gain muscle... why they became a personal trainer or joined MFP. I also feel that many times there is an underlying cause for this other than "just to be healthy". Sounds like a silly question but really, I'm curious. I'll go first.... I care about my…

Should I exercise more?
I fell off the bandwagon a few months ago and am trying to become active again so I can get my bod back. So far I've been following a plan of approximately 40 protein/20 carbs/20 fat but the exercise part hasn't been so easy. I walk my dog regularly (about 20 min a day) and go for 3-4 mile runs about 3x per week. I work a…

Alcohol and weight gain?
I'd been doing the past couple weeks (dropped 4 lbs!) by eating very clean, drinking tons of water, and exercising often. Then this weekend came along. I didn't quite pig out or anything but most of my meals were at restaurants (high sodium) AND to top it off.. Saturday night I drank a few toooo many drinks. Got on the…

Do I have a serious injury?
Perfect timing as I'm trying to get ready for a 5K!!! :-/ On my way down the stairs at work today my heel got stuck on the stair somehow, causing me to bounce/slide down 4-5 stairs. The fall caused me to kind of bend my foot back and drag it.. as well as hit my knee. I was able to make my way back to my desk to call and…

Progress Pics.. 10 lbs down, 17 to go!
Its not too dramatic of a difference.. but here it goes. Starting weight (1/23/2012): 172.8lbs Current Weight (4/29/2012): 162.6lbs Goal (July 2012): 145lbs Just to give you an idea on the pics below, I started Cycle 1 of the 17DD around 4/10/2012 at 169 and finished off on 4/27 at 162.6. I basically went low carb (80 to…

2 months to go... what should I do?
I still have 12-17 more lbs to lose by July 7th! As a backstory- since joining in January I've lost almost 10lbs, woohoo!! :) I'm 5'7 and CW=162.6lbs. My GW =145 and I was hoping to get there by July.. however that is not looking promising. I'm willing to settle with 150 since I know that is attainable. I mainly need to…

If you're serious about getting in shape.. no complaining!
If you're in a fitness class and the instructor accidentally makes you do 20 more reps than she initially said to do.... DON'T WHINE! That drove me crazy tonight in my boot camp class. If these people are truly there to lose weight and get in shape, they would find the opportunity in extra reps vs. complaining and having a…

Looking for some motivation/ support!
I've been blogging for about a week now on a new meal plan I'm following. Its based on the 17 Day Diet by Dr. Moreno, but before many of you roll your eyes and because its another "diet" (I hate that word as well)... its a very sustainable plan that is working out great for me. :) For a week I've been eating more lean…

Stress, cortisol, and weight loss- thoughts?
Just read an interesting excerpt from Dr. Moreno's 17 Day Diet book that basically stated "our body deals with stress by raising our cortisol levels. This in turn triggers an over-release of glucose and insulin into the blood- which creates insulin resistance." The most interesting statement was: "To your physiology, being…

Eating lunch from a vending machine..
.. would be so much easier if it were stocked with better choices! Forgot my lunch today (doh!) and had to rely on our vending machines. I knew there wouldn't really be any good choices but was willing hold out til dinner vs. eat a pack of skittles and Grandma's cookies for lunch. As I scoured the selections I was shocked…

Salt and sugar cravings... at set times each day?
I've noticed that just about every day after lunch (mid-afternoon) I tend to crave something salty. Then, after dinner... even if it was the most satisfying meal- I crave something sweet (whether it be fruit, milk, yogurt, or even flavored water). Does anyone know if there is some type of significance to this relating to…

You're stranded on a deserted island...
... it's almost bedtime, and you're a little hungry. You whip out MFP on your mobile device (yes, I know.. stranded with a mobile device.. don't ask) and realize you still have 150 calories left for the day! Woohoo!! Thank goodness you did all that walking after you ate that big pig. Miraculously, a life raft comes…

Are fruit carbs the same as bread carbs? :)
Hi all... I'm a big fruit lover, and I'm Italian so I love pasta too. :) Well, I noticed many years ago that pasta and breads were my vice so I've tried to cut them out as much as possible and keep my carb intake moderately low- with higher protein. However I do eat about 2-3 pieces of fruit per day... and those alone…

Where can I find some extra "oomph"?
Do you all have any suggestions for some extra energy throughout the day? I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do like hot tea. I avg about 6 hrs of sleep per night... so that could be why I don't feel at my best... however when I try to get at least 8 hours, I still feel kind of tired throughout the day. Thanks!

Need some guidance- please see my before/after numbers and d
Started my fitness plan on 1/23 with a personal trainer in the mornings. This morning (44 days later), we took measurements and weight. I'm very bummed about the results.. I have about 25 lbs to lose (or 2-3 sizes) and am hoping to do so by July. I know I haven't been eating 100% great calories, however I didn't think I…

Sedentary or lightly active?
I work in an office, at a desk, however I had my workstation made into a standing workstation. So basically I stand all day (which I hear is better than sitting all day). I do walk around every hour or so- but nothing like if it were a retail job constantly on my feet back and forth. What would you consider it? Sedentary…

Bacon makes everything better! ;)
TURKEY bacon of course. ;) I've pulled together the nutritional facts for 1 bunch of bacon-wrapped asparagus (3 pieces of 7-8in long asparagus, 1 piece turkey bacon, 1 spray butter) 47 calories 3 g fat 1.8 carbs 3.2 protein Here's my recipe: Take 2-3 pieces of asparagus, trim ends as needed. Wrap the group of asparagus…

Need. More. Energy!
I've come to a realization over the past week or so that just because someone is motivated to do something, does not necessarily mean they have the energy. (And just because someone is not energized, does not mean they lack motivation.) What I'm struggling with is finding energy to support my current committments. I am…

Cookies fit for a day's worth of calories..
I can't believe how many calories are in pre-packaged cookies!! Today at lunch they brought in sandwiches, salad, and cookies from a sandwich shop called Potbelly's.. should have been a hint as to how healthy their stuff is. I did well with getting a ton of salad and a small half sandwich, but then I decided to have one…

Eating before early morning workout?
My workouts are usually at 5:30/6am. I start with a 30 min weight session with my trainer followed by 30-60 min of cardio. I never eat breakfast before the gym, and I have been doing fine. No fatigue or dizziness and my workouts are still great. Once I get to the office I will have a piece of fruit and a packet of…

1.5 weeks & have not lost any weight.. Advice/ Thoughts?
I started w/MFP (eating 1330 calories) almost 2 weeks ago. 1 week ago (last Thursday) I started with a personal trainer doing 30 min of light weight lifting 2 x per week to help with toning. In addition to the twice weekly weights, I have been doing at least 45 min cardio M-F. I know it hasn't been very long since…

Tell me about your cheat days...
First off... I have heard people mention "cheat days". Does MFP create your weight loss goal with a cheat day factored in?! Or are these people just referring to a cheat day in general which are usually encouraged on any weight loss regimen (but only once a week or every two weeks). Secondly... I must vent about the waste…

WW vs. MFP
I have seen many people on here who have had success with Weight Watchers, and then have come to MFP because it's free.. and they want to maintain their WW weight loss. So far I have been following the set amount of calories that MFP has calculated for me.. should I just stick to this or would it be beneficial for me to…

Calories per day (food) vs. Calories burned per week (exerci
Hi everyone, I'm new here and I just set up my profile. After entering all my goals and info, it came up with me needing to eat 1330 calories per day. Then there was a section that said if I work out 4 times per week at 60 minutes each, I will burn 1000+ (don't remember exactly) calories a week with exercise. My question-…
